The new series is excellent so far and I think Martha is great assistant. The trailer for the next episode (2 weeks time coz of the Eurovision Song Contest) looked very exciting and there was a glimpse of John Simm (from Life on Mars) looking evil - rumour is he's... *gulp* ... THE MASTER!!! MWAHAHA...

High fuel prices encourage more fuel efficient vehicles which must be good for the planet. I am of course a hipocryte as I drive an Alfa Romeo that only does 25MPG. Fortunately these days in Euroland you can get cars that are thrifty on fuel byt still go like hot snot. For example a diesel Seat Leon...

An Imperial (British) gallon is 4.5 litres whereas as US gallon is 3.8 litres. Fuel in the UK costs about 90p per litre, so at $2 per GBP, a US gallon is just under $7 and an imperial gallon just over $8.

Dr. Who and Duke Nukem 3D

Watching yesterday's Dr. Who (set in 1930s New York) I couldn't help wondering if the pig-men were a nod to the LAPD cops in Duke Nukem 3D... ?

I just saw a clip on telly from the final episode where Sam is on the phone to the "future" and he's told he has to "destroy Gene Hunt and his team" in order for the "operation" to be successful. Suitably open-ended for the speculators as the operation could be an opera...

Life on Mars

The final episode of this marvellous TV show will be aired on Tuesday in the UK (is it shown in other countries?). Not quite the fever pitch of "Who shot JR?" but there's quite a few blogs filled with speculation as to how it's going to end, e.g.... http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/johndale/entr...

Parallax - you are spot on. I think you're also right about the total take being slightly higher with a slower process, but the answer given is the fastest way to the highest salary.

An interesting variation.... A custom dungeon consists of 65 screamers and Lord Chaos. Each denizen, including Lord Chaos, has a salary of one Gor coin. This is because there was a screamers' revolution, and a democracy was founded. Lord Chaos lost all his power, so that he doesn't even have the rig...

Just watched Pan's Labyrinth on DVD. Loved it. I didn't know it was subtitled but I've always preferred this to dubbing so no problems there. Dunno if anyone has ever done a wartime drama / fairytale "mash-up" before but it certainly worked for me.

Trantor - thanks for the excellent review. I think one of the reasons why we don't see so many old-style in-depth reviews is that not many people actually finish custom dungeons these days. I never completed Surgical Strike despite enjoying it a lot. I think what I liked most was there was lots of c...

I'd go for option 2. Ambient sounds such as wind, water, moaning, rattling chains etc. plus musical snatches. Joramund said he thought a totally silent dungeon with occasional surges of music would be weird. Guess he hasn't played Angel's Egg

Sophia's reply put it in context for me. It's much like the British press insomuch as there is a lot of bollocks spouted from both sides (though lots more people read the Daily Mail than the Morning Star). Comparing UK and US politics is interesting as the UK has moved to the centre big time. Back i...

Has anyone seen Guillermo del Torro's new fantasy movie Pan's Labyrinth (El Labarinto del Fauno)?

I just watched the trailer http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457430/trailers and it looks, er, fantastic :D
