Magic Map icons... Bug?

Postby Saumun » 10-Mar-17 15:29

I have a floor item that has different bitmaps for each direction.
The magic map icons i have assigned to it (four different ones) only show on the magic map when the player is facing north (in test mode... haven't compiled).
I tried giving each direction the same icon instead, but got the same result.
The strange thing is, when i assigned an already existing bitmap (I randomly picked a table), it was fine and appeared on the map regardless of direction facing.

So is this a bug, or am I missing something really obvious?

Not sure on this one. What object was cloned?

A barrel.

Yes, I have used a barrel but have not given it a different icon for each direction. Curious is to why you want the icon to change.

It's because the direction of the objects affects the outcome of the puzzle that they're in.
I tried just using one icon for all four directions, but got the same result. They only appeared on the map if the party were facing north.

To be honest, it's not terribly important because the map is not crucial to the puzzle. It is just really for flavour, and I was curious.
I haven't gone back to it to try something else. Maybe it's the barrel, though I doubt it since the original barrel displays it's icon okay.

I poked around with the barrel some, only saw the one bitmap for the icon, all bitmaps for directions worked. I could not select a different icon for the directions with the window I saw. How are you doing the selecting, do you have a window capture? Been a while since playing around with the editor. I remember about the directions now, so if you want all four you need four barrels, and it may be possible to character move such as swap barrel if facing that direction, each barrel having a different magic map or icon or bitmap. Oh, now my mind is running off again, that's what I love about that old editor, it spins my mind

Ad you have already guessed, CS... The object is indeed really four separate objects.
It is rotated using SWAP_TILE. So each object has its own magic map icon, but for some weird reason they only appear if the party is facing north.

Hmmm, perhaps it is a bug, or it simply sees the cloned object as the same and treats it just as a default barrel which I think default is N. I'm not sure but possibly the dungeon UNDERVERSE had a situation like that. There was this stupid table with food on it that kept changing to what was probably different locations, messed me up good, I hated that puzzle! :!:

You must be thinking of another dungeon, CS. No tables in Underverse.
I'll probably just clone a crack, take out the views, and give it a set map icon and place it under the barrel clone.
Just so there is something on the map.

Damn' thought it was Underverse, been so long since I played it. Oh right, I think it was SINS OF THE FATHER, damn memory, losing it. Sorry, it'll take time to remember everything again.

Ah... I downloaded SOTF, but never got around to it.
Think it may have to wait until after Underworld Dreams and finishing my own dungeon, so it may be quite some time.

Thoroughly enjoyed SOTF and recommend it when time allows. I understand time constraints, lucky to even play a game.
