"proScreamer2" Looks good here.

Not sure that I want to logout though, as clicking the icon may cause Lord Chaos to return a third time.

Oh, that looks fantastic, Linflas / Christophe! Good work and thank you! :D

I only think that the small chests on the "locked" threads icons might be a bit too shiny / yellow; and the unread posts scroll looks may be a bit too similar to the "pinned" post scrolls, but I think I'll get used to it in no time!

Nice work Linflas, the banner is super clean now :-) And you fixed the problems with white form fields in Chrome: nice job :)

I agree with Jan's points about the bright chests. And especially the sticky scroll -- it greys out instead of being a closed scroll icon, which is confusing. I think all "read" posts and forums should have "closed" books or scrolls, it makes it easier to scan what's been read or not.

I've also noticed a small issue with the banner (well, I'm not good at the terminology  - it's the... erm... picture with the flasks and sword / dagger at the top of the forums). I've got a 1920 * 1080 screen at work. In proScreamer 1, everything looked normal (there are the flasks and the dagger / sword and the chest). In pro Screamer 2, however, the picture is repeated, so that there are the two flasks, then the dagger / sword, then a long nothing (no problem with that), and then the flasks once more - or, to be exact, 1 and 1/2 flasks. I know it's just a detail and it's hard to solve because people use different screens, but the half flask doesn't look good. Perhaps the empty floor could continue forever to the right with no objects. I don't know. Gambit will know. You'll know too, Linflas. :)

EDIT due to ian_scho being pedantic: it's actually 187,5 % of a flask. :)

That's the easiest solution. The other is to make the image seamlessly tileable. The latter option can be tricky, but it looks quite do-able with the rock background.

the background is already seamless, just need to add the following line in .headerbar class :

Code: Select all

background-repeat: repeat-x;
i'll make better chests and sticky read posts icon when i'm back home on sunday ! :)

Errmm.. yes i see the point now that i have a 1920x1080 screen in front of me. Forget about the piece of code i posted, it's already by default.
The fact is, I didn't like the chest in the previous header image and a big image like this was slow to load on my mobile so i decided to have it 1280 pixels width only and make the floor seamless.

Ok, I need feedback on the sticky "read" icon which looked too much like the "unread" one.

Image : same as actual but a bit darker
Image : same but with darker/desaturated pin
Image : proScreamer 1 icon, but i cannot put the upper-left blue gem over the pin. I won't put it on the right corner coz it looks weird for all other "mine" icons.
Image : proScreamer 1 with inverted pin, i don't particularly like that one because the pin hides the red ribbon that locks the scroll.

So which one ?

#1 and #2 don't work because they are inconsistent with the other icons as they look like they are still open. My eyes are scanning the forums for "closed" items, which was the convention you established for all the other read/unread icons.

So it should be #3 or #4. I'd go with #3 but make the pin slightly smaller and move it left and up a bit. Or use a poison dart instead ;)

BTW, the chest being used to show locked icons doesn't really work with the style of the others. I think using a little rusty padlock would make more sense.

I decided to keep the grey-ish opened scroll for sticky read posts because i didn't find logical pinning a *closed* scroll on a wall :)

I try to be consistent with the layers i use *over* icons and animated icons : if i modify the pin, the gem, the black flame or the chest, i must do it on all icons. And that's a long work.
On #3, there are two problems : the pin is symetrically inverted with unread scrolls and gem appears over the pin (and it's definitely ugly).

I can't agree with your decision, sorry. It makes no sense to me to have an open scroll signify a previously read item, when all your other open/closed icons work completely differently. And I think the logic of pinning on a wall is less important than consistency and fulfilling user expectations.

It's annoying enough that I'll probably switch to prosilver in that case :-( I mean, seriously, look at this screen shot, it looks likie all the first few posts are un-read, but in fact they are not. When I'm scanning forums, I want to quickly see what's read or not -- the sticky posts open scrolls break that "scanability".

As I said above, I completely agree with Gambit. The open scroll for read posts is confusing. IMHO, the forums should be as clear and lucid as possible, enabling fast scanning and fast recognition of what's new and how many things were (not) read. Everything else, including the gems and pinning up of closed scrolls and even the pin itself, are just details.

So, if I could vote, I'd vote for number 3 or 4, or for anything closed.

But, of course, your the guy who's making it, in your free time and for free, Linflas, so I would be grateful for anything. :D

I tried to make other scrolls :
- based on the opened one by simply moving the upper and lower roll close to the center => ugly
- turning 90 degrees the opened scroll and grey-ing it => less ugly but not coherent

so i'll stick to #4 ( which is the one my gf prefers :) ) or #3 but there won't be a version with the blue gem, which means people won't know if they have posted into.

I think it's all right. The scrolling text - if you mean this - is so small that I usually don't notice it when scanning the forums. Larger animations would be disturbing, but not this. :D

Today I have disabled the older proScreamer style. All users who had it selected in their profile should now have proScreamer2 (the updated version).
I have also configured proScreamer2 as the default style. Anonymous visitors will see the new style from now on.
