[Custom dungeon] Girth of Life [RTC] [Gronwold]

Post by Gronwold »

Version: 1 for RTC V0.49
Platform: RTC
Author: Gronwold
Date published: 2010, September 25
Date last updated: 2010, September 25

Story:
Hi, first time poster here - created a new dungeon and wanted to share it!

Background: Stories in the local village tell of a dungeon packed with treasure for anyone to find, but no-one (as usual) seems to return. One adventurer goes in, to try to succeed where others have failed...

it is currently at: edit - link below
Does anyone know where I can upload this file more permanently? There seems to be something about adding attachments, but can't work out how...

Thanks

Gronwold

Hey, great to have a first post be a custom dungeon! Welcome to the forums :D

I've added a second link to your post, hope you don't mind. It's now hosting on this webspace too. Hopefully someone can also host it through the DM encyclopaedia too, where any reviews, etc could also go up :)

The blue & green buttons
Spoiler
allow you to deactivate the fireballs.
Spoiler
You need the code, found split between three scrolls found in the dungeon.
The dragon
Spoiler
is killable, but tough. There are three hidden weapons (hint found on wall in top level)

Hi Gronwold

I have a feeling that I am very near the end. I have
Spoiler
got into the room that needed all the keys and have got to Value 4
. I think that I only need
Spoiler
the red key
. However, I haven't input the
Spoiler
code yet. Is that that necessary for the red key?

Hi beowuuf & the master,

Thanks for the great welcome. Fantastic to join a board that thinks that the old games are the best!
The code & red key:
Spoiler
No, the code only stops the fireballs being fired. The key is elsewhere.

The three digit code:
Spoiler
'one', 'two' and 'three' relate to the number in the code. i.e. one is the first number in the code.

It took me about 4 or 5 evenings, but learning and testing slowly! I still have no idea on some of the functions that there are.
Does anyone know if there is a manual or equivalent for the RTC editor, or is it just trial and error and investigating the .txt files?

I'm afraid there is nothing available for the newest function except hints in all the questions on the forums - anything that was available is now frightfully out of date. There might be references on the wiki, but I couldn't swear to it.

You can always just ask on the RTC forums for specific questions, though alot ofus could probably only give you theoretical answers :)

Spoiler
the red key
is
Spoiler
hidden behind a false wall on the fireball level

http://dmwiki.atomas.com/wiki/RTC is as good as it gets. A few people have put some effort in to get the barebones RTC information in there. Hope it helps!

The dungeon has a total of
Spoiler
5
keys in it:
Spoiler
Wing Key:
Found in
Spoiler
the bottom most dungeon, with many pressure pads
Spoiler
Skull Key:
Found in
Spoiler
the 2nd level, with all the worms.Through a door before the 'Dizzyness'.
Spoiler
Blood Key:
Found in
Spoiler
the top floor, behind a pit that needs a gold coin to open.
Spoiler
Cross Key:
Found in
Spoiler
Dungeon with the Oitu, in an alcove where the Oitu were trapped.
Spoiler
Cog:
Found in
Spoiler
Dungeon with the Oitu - there is a cog holder without a cog in it - if you click it you are given a cog.
Spoiler
Master Key:
Found in:
Spoiler
The dragon, and is needed to open the Dragon door.
Spoiler
None of the keys are 'hidden', in that if you find the alcove, the keys should be obvious. The only 'dodgy' one was the cog, mainly because I could not work out how to get it to look as the cog was in it!
Hope that helps,

Gronwold

Thanks Gronwold. The only flaw in the plan is that if you don't get
Spoiler
the blood key
and drop into the pit - there is no way back up!

Spoiler
All the pits in the game should drop into sections that are either part of the main dungeon, or into sections with transporters that get you back out. If you are talking about the pit by the blood key, it should have a coin slot on the wall next to it,
Spoiler
that takes the gold coin found by the bandana on the same level.

Hi Gronwold
Spoiler
what I am saying is that if you fail to find the gold coin on the upper level and then drop through the pit (as I did first time around) once you get to the pit where you have to put the coin in there is no way back up again to get the gold coin needed - unless I have missed a way through of course

Hi The master,
Spoiler
The gold coin is on the same level as the pit. if you fall through the pit next to the coin slot, you have to battle two worms, and then there should be a blue haze at the end of the tunnel that will transport you back to the pit again. If you retrace your steps back to the room that fires the poison gas (it is marked something like 'Only i may pass through here - Sargor') , on the other side is the coin, with the bandana.
Spoiler
If you dropped through the pit that did not have the coin slot next to it, I am realising that you can't get back to get the coin as you have to get through the poison gas chamber without Sargor's bandana! A problem that I am going to have to fix!

RAF: Above, BLOOD key is probably the red key.

La clef de sang est surement la clef rouge. Elle est en haut du donjon.

Finished.

Really enjoyed it for such a small game. Couple of problems , one of which I have already made the author aware of. I think that there maybe a problem in the first room as I was able to sleep by the doorway in and nothing attacked me, in fact quite the opposite as when I was asleep they ran away! Most difficult part must be the
Spoiler
room full of pressure plates
. And the
Spoiler
dragon
is a real beast. Overall though really enjoyed it. If that is what you have achieved after 5 days then look forward to more like it. Thanks for your time and efforts Gronwold.

Thank you for the kind words!

I have taken on board the suggestions and have modified the file - can be downloaded here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/421972527/GirthofLifeV2.RTC
If someone will be good enough to change the download link for the board?

Also, within the dungeon:
Spoiler
Try to find the upgraded weapons (Hard Cleave, Mace of order and Excsymyr.
Will hopefully soon upload my second dungeon :D

Many thanks,

Gronwold

strange modification (or maybe i missed something ?) : in first version of the dungeon, at the first level, there's a room with 2 pits, first is closed with the 2 plates and then i fall down to the second level through the other one. now, i dunno how to go down, the remaining pit leads to a small room with a blue haze that teleports me back up.

In the first dungeon, it didn't occur to me (I don't know why not - I have done this on many other dungeons!) that people would enter the second level through that pit.
To progress, you
Spoiler
have to find the 'key' to the poison room.
The key is
Spoiler
an item of clothing that belongs to Sargor (the dungeon owner) that the leader of the group wears. If it not on the leader it won't turn off the poison trap.
The key is found
Spoiler
behind a false wall.

thanks, now i'm stuck at the "ambush" puzzle. I can notice a
Spoiler
teleporter for spells over the pit
and a
Spoiler
mummy
but i cannot kill it.

If you are at the bottom of the stairs where there is an alcove saying 'Turn and fire',
Spoiler
Do exactly that. on the other side of the pit is a pressure pad under a fake wall.

@Linflas: Then you should see the fireballs not exploding on the wall, but "disappearing" in the fake wall. Nevermind anyway, go on! I also had many  and "d'oh" moments in this dungeon... (Edit: Oh, I see, you thought there was a teleporter, sorry - interesting, I haven't thought of that)

Great dungeon, Gronwold, by the way! I really liked it, although some of the areas were really very tough for me. I'm looking forward to your next dungeon! :)
Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park-a-reno!
