Fluxcaging Chaos Lord

Post by terkio »

I found it extremely difficult in "Towers of Chaos" a CSBwin custom game.
I don' t know wether this is from TOC or CSBwin.
On the other hand, in several RTC custom games it turned out easy.

What is your experience about fusing Chaos Lord through:
_DM ATARI/AMIGA
_DM PC
_DM RTC
_RTC custom games.
_DM CSBwin
_CSBwin custom games
How difficult ?

In custom games, is it possible to overwrite Chaos lord behavior ?

Chaos teleports slower in RTC, it is easier to fuse him than any other DM version.
In my custom dungeon, Chaos is easy to defeat if you have the correct weapon. Otherwise, he's a killable but very tough monster (like dragon under DDD in CSB).

In CSBwin you can certainly block Chaos's attack and movement (except teleport, although there would be tricks to nullifying that), and you can substitute a fuse blast for a DES EW blast (which is functionally the same as fuse in every other way) to create a new ending that way.

I actually went in reverse and had Lord Order actually trigger hopefully what looks like the same game ending in a test dungeon :)

I can't recall Chaos being harder in original DM, but I haven't properly fused him anywhere other than the DM dungeon location (that two square alcove) for quite a while

I suspect there is a random delay when fusing that makes it frequently a failure.
In "Tower of Chaos" a CSBwin custom game. I tried many times to fuse Chaos.
About 50 attempts where I had Chaos cornered at the end of a corridor.
Only 2 success.
When surounded ( here 3 walls and 1 fluxcage ):
Most of the time he had teleported before I fused.
Some times, I think my fuse hit him just before he left.

I guess Chaos behavior is programmed this way:
Once fluxcaged. He teleports after a random delay.
This random delay is frequently too short and rarely long enough for success.
Is this the programmed Chaos behavior ? Can this be changed in custom games ?
Are they tricks ? I tried to freeze Chaos...he doesn' t care.

Odd, I tried my old CSBwin game with Order/Chaos, and managed to fuse them without a huge amount of effort. Most of it was getting the correct number of cages around, they love to move.

So not sure ... do you have the game ticks setting high, so everything is moving quickly? Not sure if that would actually influece things...

I just found.
I was not fusing the right way !!!!!!!!!
Spoiler
The fuse spell does not go throught the fluxcaged tile. One must step next to Chos Lord

I've found that if I completely fill the room with fluxcages, it makes it easier to fuse Lord Chaos. It also helps to cast several MON level fireshields and then try to get Lord Chaos to chase you into a completed cage. I think that it's easier to fuse in CSBwin than in the original Atari ST version, but most of that is due to keyboard assignment. It's just so much easier to cast runes via keyboard than having to click on each rune in the UI.
