Help!!! I stuck in front of a gate

Post by maze350z »

Hi, I hope everyone can help me?
I am now in Level 5 and I have a gate in front of me. When I am far away then the gate open - if i will go through then it closed.
On the left side, there is a knob in the wall and the gate opens - when I press the knob then I stay more close to the gate but I cant go through!
It says you have to go fast (2 times klick right) but it will not work. I tryed at least 2 hour - with every possibility (less weight, just 2 persons, use the keyboard right when i press the knob) NOTHING WORKS!!!!
What should I do? or is it a problem with the game?
I use windows 7 and untill now the game run perfect!

Thank you

What version are you using? The amount of people doesn't matter. Are you sidestepping?

Level 5? Are you sure it's level 5? You mean the place at the beginning of that level after the "Choose your door" level? Then it's level 4 (or 3 if you count the first level as 0). I'm not trying to be pedantic - I'm just wondering where you are.

Well, in that case, there is only one way - push the button (mouse) and immedietaly make a few fast right sidesteps (keyboard).

And welcome to the forums! :)

full stamina and no injuries also help.

It's not a bug in the program, I've just gone and done something weird.

Many have had the same difficulty with this gate.

Suggestions:

Drop everything that might cause your characters to be overburdened (in the yellow or red)
right in front of the gate (you have to go through that gate to continue the game anyway).
(Trego already mentioned making sure you have no injuries or low stamina)

Prepare a couple of fireballs/poisonballs
Spoiler
(in case you find a mosquito, or something similar after getting through ).
Also prepare a couple of 'non-material being' spells.
Spoiler
(Some spots can get a little 'haunted' in this area)
Practice side-stepping until you can do it quickly.
(I use the keyboard, since the directional arrows in the game are more awkward, for me)

Wait until the gate gets 'all the way' open before trying to run/side-step quickly through it.

Hey, thanks for the answer but...
Yes, It is Level 4.
I checked my wheights - O.K. Stamina also good!
Unfortunately I can step 2 times right with my keyboard. I tryed a lot and one what I can do is "Strg+$" and go one right and turn right.
Can I change my keyboard settings?

If I push the knob then I hear the gate is closing so fast - I cant image that is possible to go through!
Really, I tryed it around 2 hours with all whats pop up in my head - slowly I give up!

Some other ideas?

Thanks guys..

I'm not sure I understand. So what's the problem - you can't side-step with your keyboard?

I'm not sure if you can do this with the original DM for PC. Is your Num Lock on or off?

Anyway, I'll send you my e-mail in a Private Message (check your User Control Panel) - you can e-mail me your savegame and I'll see what can be done.

If I understood it correctly, you're playing the original DM for PC - then the game is saved as dmsave.dat in the root directory.

EDIT: Oh, sorry - now, I see, you're playing it under the RTC (Return to Chaos) engine, right? Then, the game is saved in the Modules directory as dm.sv0 or something like that (depends on what version you're playing and in which slot you save - you can find the latest savegame simply by sorting the files in Modules directory according to the date of their creation).

EDIT 2: And in RTC, you can redefine the keys easily in the config.txt file (for example KEY_STEP_RIGHT for right sidestep).

Hey Maze350z:

I too am trying RTC. Post your progress. Seems we're the only two newcomers here.

Hi, welcome to the forum :). The RTC Config file should just be in the RTC folder somewhere - it's just a .txt file. As long as you're not in the yellow, weight-wise (injuries and low stamina can affect this, as well as how much stuff you're carrying), you should have no troubles getting through the door if you sidestep immediately after pressing the button. I tend to take a bonk on the head whenever I go through but this isn't exactly a huge problem ;). Helmets do help reduce damage a bit 'cause I tested it once, not that you take epic amounts of damage without a helmet ;).

For a QWERTY laptop, try these values in config.txt :

Code: Select all

KEY_STEP_FORWARD	W
KEY_STEP_BACKWARD	S
KEY_TURN_LEFT Q
KEY_TURN_RIGHT E
KEY_STEP_LEFT A
KEY_STEP_RIGHT D
"The only way out is another way in." Try Sukumvit's Labyrinth II

Use <tab> not a space between the command and the file path?
Was unable to (permenantly) kill off ian_scho (Haynuus), Ameena, oh_brother (Westian), money (Falkor), raixel (Petal) and Lord_Bones (Aurek) in the DM D&D game Time's Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE WHO MADE THE GAME WHAT IT WAS - GREAT!

Have you unzipped the game? You may be playing it from within the original zip folder which won't work. Unzip it to it's own folder and try again.
