The Cure and DM

Post by +Isamu »

Ever listen to Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me by The Cure while playing DM? There's just something about the gothic, twisted nature of that album, especially "The Kiss" and "The Snakepit" that goes perfect with the dark, medevil, spooky environment found in DM.

I listen to 'The Virgin Suicides Score' by Air French Band whilst playing DM, 'Dead Bodies' is extremely scary in some parts. Anyone love them? And you can't beat a good bit of Pulp's earlier, scary stuff like 'Manon' and 'Silence'...

I never heard of them but I'll check them out. Are early British alternative rock from the 80s? If so I'll definately look into them. The live version of "Bella LaGosey's Dead" by Bauhaus also sends a delightful chill up my spine, and so does "Pornography" by The Cure, especislly the track "Cold".

Pulp became famous in the 1990's but had been going since 1978. The songs I was on about were from 1984-7 when they released some depressing B-Sides which were about dead people, 'Manon' is about someone who keeps a corpse in his home and picks flesh from her bones while 'Silence' likens the bedroom to a funeral parlour. As for Air, they are French and I think they have been going since 1993, their music isn't alternative, it is electronic, they use lots of weird and wonderful instruments. Their first album 'Moon Safari' was quite a hit whilst their second one was a 90% instrumental soundtrack to Sofia Copella's film.
Gee, all that typing, anyhow, I have a Pulp site at www.welcome.to/rarepulp if you are interested in more info.
I haven't really heard too much Cure stuff, I bought a single called 'The 13th' a few years back.
Keep rocking!
