Even before it has its première in Cannes tomorrow night (Sunday) an executive has said after a preview screening that it ain't that great.

I'm sure it'll be a rollicking good laugh regardless of what the critics think, but what are your hopes/fears for Indy 4? Will you see it?

Indy 4...
I have almost decided not to watch it.
Chances are I will eventually.
Happened to watch part of the first
Indiana Jones on TV last week and I
found it to be dull due to incoherent scenes,
witless action scenes with pathetically acting
bad guys and "surprisingly" outdated special effects.
Therefore unbearable. I quit watching after 30 mins.
Maybe I do it not justice and I likely was betrayed
by my childhood memory of it. Maybe my mood was
not that good and possibly the 2nd part would
have been better.. anyway.
I really believe Indy is cool. But I did not
enjoy watching that Film on TV.
So I do not anticipate Indy 4 too much now.
slightly off topic:
Gambit, what does the ending of the file *.ece stand
for? I did not find any reference whilst googling or
on the wikipaedia.. Can you shed some light on it?

It's possible you were just got board because you've seen it before. I've had the same thing happen to me before.
Regardless of what the critics say, I'm looking forward to a new Indy film. I really don't trust those critics anyways, I've seen them rave over some of the worst trash to show up on film and bash some of the best classics of all time. Go figure.

As for not enjoying things 20 or 30 years after first experiencing them: nostalgia is a powerful thing and it is easily destroyed as we get older. Sometimes it's best to leave things alone and try not to re-create the memory; just remembering that you enjoyed it is often the best attitude.

Here's a quick roundup of some differing views on the new movie:

I went to see it yesterday evening, and boy did I love it when it started. Setting, actors, characters (Mutt is just fantastic!), irony, self-respect for the older parts - it's all there. It's just too bad that I really disliked the last 30 to 45 minutes, they scream of George Lucas rather than Steven Spielberg - too many effects, too silly, too little character interaction, too little plot consistency. I just rated it 7/10 on imdb, which really is a shame because in the first 60-90 minutes it was on its way to a solid 9.
I agree with Linflas, Last Crusade remains the best, then it's Raiders for me, then Crystal Skulls, then Temple of Doom.

War of the Worlds wasn't exactly great, I give you that. But in my mind, it was better than the Star Wars prequels, and the last part of Indy 4 is closer to those than anything Spielberg has done (with the exception of The Lost World I guess).Sophia wrote:Yeah, this doesn't sound like Spielberg at all...Trantor wrote:too many effects, too silly, too little character interaction, too little plot consistency

Thursday night I went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and I'm happy to say that the movie rocked! All of the actors and actresses did an excellent job, the plot was good, great special effects, classic Indy moments, and an all-around great movie. Raiders of the Lost Ark is still my favorite and I think second place goes to the Last Crusade, but Kingdom comes in a close third beating out the Temple of Doom. The movie had everything I wanted to see in Indy 4. This is not Indiana Jones and the Escape from the Retirement Home, and George Lucas did not botch this movie up like he did with the Star Wars Prequels. The beginning of the movie reminded me allot of "American Graffiti" which was cool. Shia LeBouf did an excellent job in his role of Mutt Williams, + it was great having Karen Allen back in her role as Marion. Cate Blanchette made an excellent villain as Irina Spalko. OK. so to sum this up, yes this is a movie that you want to see and I didn't mind paying the $9. and change per ticket to see it cause its the kind of movie that you really want to see on the big screen. Also will pick up the movie when it comes out on DVD as well. Very fun. and if I might add Kate Blanchette was very attractive in her Soviet attire. Too bad Russia has banned the movie in their country.
I really hated the end.

ALIENS???? WTF is Spielberg thinking?
Ever since after Jurassic Park, Spielberg has gone down hill.
Every Indiana Jones movie had left the end open to possibility. My friend said it best, in the end you had very smart contraptions. The new Indiana Jones movie just went X-Files. :/
