Unless you split them by killing one or more of the creatures in the group. A fireball can turn a group of four trollins into a single trollin.

Fireball do not hurt black flames or make them respawn, actually they heal them!

Yep, I remember discovering this by accident years ago. Such a clever little secret they hid there. I love how FTL hid logical actions like that.

Oh, I didn't know Fireballs would heal them - I know they're non-material so I know not to bother using Fireballs on them at all, though, so maybe that's never come up (and I'm not sure it would be obvious they'd been healed anyway - it's not like they have any hitpoint indicators :D).
