Only kidding, its going to be close, but I will see if I can manage it for Sunday.
How much of that was 'only kidding'. Sounds a bit harsh to me. I don't think 7 pages of comments and some interesting discussions sounds like lack of enthusiasm. And I already said I'd need to upgrade to play it.

I think it all was! As you say, seven pages of comments is a good context!
Wow!

I just registered in the forums here so that I can show enthusiasm for your incredible looking game! I think once you release your clone interest will grow a lot! I hope you get lots of help to create content!
I love the physics video where you throw something at the light and the light changes in the scene! Great! All sorts of things can be done with moving lights. Moving fireballs down hallways would look cool.
How do you create levels? Will you release an editor?

you see, it was a clever ploy to get others to register
I'm reasonably sure he was kidding, I know a few people over here who go on verbal rants just to see how people react only to say "just kidding" incidentally though, now I no longer ever take them seriously.

Why does that give me a warm fuzzy feeling?

Remember, sarcasm does not translate in text. What might seem fine to you in your own head can come across as incredibly offensive to other people.
Trust me, I should know! Everyone here thinks I'm a grumpy wanker. I'm lovely and soft and cuddly in real life.

He is, I've met him now and know he is genuinely a cuddly warm fuzzy creature. Makes it easy to get a table in a resteraunt but hard to get the attention of staff afterwards.

Well, if DSC continues whining like that we could flood his PM.
Just for a joke, you know!
BTW: DSE, can't wait to download your Alpha!

... and there's often a bit of truth in sarcasm...
about this thread's frequenting, i didn't post here for a long time but i follow it everyday and sometimes visit DSE's website to check for new screens or videos.
this is how these forums work : it seems that people here post messages only if they feel it's necessary (except into threads made for flooding : christmas story and chat).
i thought nobody played my first custom dungeon because i didn't have a lot of feedback except for bugs and critics ! but they do play it, sometimes i can read a few lines refering to in another thread.
publish your alpha version and check the downloads, you may be surprised..
EDIT : and i don't want to reach my 1000th post too

Ever wish you hadnt posted something .. oh well. water under the bridge and all that.
The demo was ready for Sunday but instead of releasing it I just kept coding and ticking things off my "to do" list.
One problem I have is that the download is around 60-90mb (havent confirmed whats included yet). Does anyone know a good way of sharing a file of this size ?
Thanks.

The first thing that comes to mind is E-Mule...

Second is compression.

by Erik Bauer
Well, I suppose that an installer is already compressed...
Btw, even then, 30-45MB is a lot to host.

... Tom, I don't understand, how does compression share a file? It shrinks it, yes, but I have never seen compression sharing technology.
Indeed, the problem for this is that for high quality game, you need high quality models & textures, so yes, even after compression (which was going to be used by default), it's going to be big.
What his question was referring to was, is there is good file sharing host that has good speeds for downloading and is free.
I'm going to try my host, but DSE would like to have other options available to him as well.
Here's my idea - Bit Torrent for the initial release when everyone wants it, and then after release it can go back to being on a website for a minor number of downloads.

there is a website I've used before.. I think it's called mega downloads.. you just give a link and the download can be made. it's a max of 1 gig i think

Thanks guys for all your posts. Last night I culled all the files from the game which arent necessary for download and compressed the file, the total game download is now under 10mb. I can host this size file pretty much anywhere I like or even email it out.
the annoying thing is that you will have to download and install two packages from microsoft and agei (total download around 70mb of bloat !!!).
Just to reconfirm to everyone, the package for download is now almost ready. I will be checking and testing for the next 3 or 4 days and then I am on holiday for 2 days, so the release should be yours next monday ish.
Happy days ...

Bwa ha. As a developer, I already have the .NET and AGEIA packages.
I'd offer to host a mirror, but it would be unbearably slow. I could do it maybe over the weekend and shut down eMule for the duration. I'd have to serve it via FTP and limit the users/bandwidth, because I'm not the only one who uses this connection.
I like Beo's backspace. That should be the new standard.

You spotted that subtle mistake did you? Darn...
Posted: Wed Feb 07, 2007 3:52 am
by Tom Hatfield
No, no. You're setting a trend.
For reference, the AGEIA system driver runs 28 MB and can be downloaded from
here. (AGEIA keeps this one version behind the developer release, but it's way past what you need for Novodex.)
The MS .NET 1.1 framework is 23 MB and can be downloaded from
here. You can also download it through Microsoft Update.
I think DSE is still using .net 1.1. If he's updated to 2.0/3.0, you'll need that version instead, as they were not backward compatible prior to 3.0.
Edit: That didn't come out right. What I meant was, even if you have .net 2.0/3.0, you still need 1.1 to run applications developed with 1.1.

1.1 is fine.
the big download you will need is the managed extentions for directx. Its a ridiculous size download (not the standard directx runtime), of around 60mb I think. I will dig out the link and post it up. If anyone else is looking for it, I think its called the "directx dec 2006 full redist" package or something.
