Wow, five years old? That's pretty bloody good for a rat!

My two lived to be two-and-a-half and three. There's a user on YouTube called "oPuPo", I think it is, who has vids of her rats though hasn't updated for aaaages - they can do "walk" as well, and also "spin", which is cute. I think the last time anything new was updated to that account was over a year ago now, though - the two boys featuring in most of the vids might not be around any more

.
Rats are bloody intelligent...I see them as sort of a cross between cats and dogs but with a bit extra - they can look after themselves like cats and spend loads of time grooming, but they're also social and trainable like dogs and enjoy company and attention and stuff. Only they're smaller and cuter and need less space and don't need to be taken all the way to the local park for walkies or whatever

. One day I'll have rats again, but I'll need my own house or something as my bedroom doesn't exactly have the space for them atm

.
I've had other rodent pets besides rats - I've had mice and gerbils. Something I used to do with all of these would be to make different toys and stuff out of the various rodent-friendly bits of crap around the house (bog roll tubes, etc), including egg boxes, into which I'd put some treats, cloes the lid, and bury in the tank somewhere. With the gerbils, they'd nom through the box as much as possible and use it for bedding, and grab a bit of the food that came out if they happened to spot it on the ground in between mincing up cardboard. But one of my rats, Comet (the other was called Nimbus), was observed by me once to be doing something else entirely - same deal with an eggbox with food/treats inside it, but it had had only a tiny hole chewed in one corner, and Comet had picked up the box in both hands and his teeth (the latter acting as a third hand - he wasn't using them to actually bite through the cardboard) and was lifting the box up and banging it around until a bit of food dropped out of the hole, which he'd then pick up and eat. Smart arse

I friend of mine - she's a veterinary - used to have a rat. A boy-rat. Well, I can't remember if it was actually a rat or something similar, but it was male. As he (the rat) was getting older, my friend thought she would arrange something
special for him. So she found another guy, who had a girl-rat. They put them together. After a few seconds, the boy-rat had a heart attack. Because the friend of mine was a veterinary, she gave him a first aid (don't ask me how exactly) and he survived, although he never managed to recover fully.
(now, tell me - what lesson can we learn from that story?)

Yeah, by the time Marko was four, he slowed down a LOT, and his fur was all ragged (I was gonna say ratty, but hes a rat, he always looked ratty

) and he spent most of his time sleeping. But mice are DUMB. My friend had a mouse in a little cage with a wheel. When she stuck her hand in there to get him out, he would jump on the wheel and start goin for all he was worth! I swear his little mousy face looked shocked every time she picked him up like 'I was running! How did you get me!?"

huh. Not sure if you'll like this.
The internet is an amazing place and most of the stuff that is going on right now certainly wouldn't if it wasn't there.
Both good and bad, so it's nice to smile once in a while.
Watch the first vid first, then the second vid next.

Czech president V. Klaus on a state visit in Chile (left). I guess he thought that nobody was watching... or I don't know. Another embarassment for our country, oh my...

Funny. In spanish the other guy is saying how much he 'participates' with Chile. Stealing a pen i guess is one form of participation!

It's quite common. Sarkozy does the same. Let's wonder what they choose to do when the larceny is worth a thousandfold...

no nudity, but adult themes.. All of it is in german, but some things have subtitles for those of us who don't speak it. Like me

However most of it is so obvious you don't need them anyway

^^^ It amazes me that the Apple fanboys will defend the iPhone to the death, despite the autocorrect being one of the worst pieces of software engineering this century. *Everyone* knows it sucks, yet they keep using it. Something seriously screwed in that software -- my 4 year old Nokia's predictive text is way better.
Still, those are very funny

as one comment points out.. it may be what KFC REALLY stands for.. (contains F word)

the real thing for me though, is why did he say that??? it's one thing to think the microphone is off, or to blurt out the wrong word.. but this seems to be completely what he intended.. what does it mean to him? there is a retraction video somewhere there too..
