Aaaand... Germans can finally enjoy Doom and Doom 2, because "Germany lifts Doom sales ban" (

All that's missing is his triumphant race away from the goal,
hands high above his head, grinning from ear to ear...
...and of course...the pummeling from his team
that was sure to follow.

^^^ Where's his internet!?!?!?
This video is breathtaking: a time lapse of the ISS doing a full circuit of the Earth. I love all the electrical storms you can see, and the vast light patches of large cities. This is who we are and where we live: come visit us

(I don't mind admitting this actually made me cry a little, though I'm a pretty emotional person these days and will cry at anything
Alos, here's a great time lapse / stop frame of the evolution of women's hair styles, in just 4 minutes:

I wondered what's in us that makes us love such things that cows posted -
now, don't ask how I felt after watching Gambit's video.
I knew about that levitation, but not those details - that's ... another world.

@Jan. If they parked that up and left it unattended in my neighbourhood someone would steal the seat...

On a different note, a very good comment on some site that made me laugh:
When I was young my father said to me:
"Knowledge is Power....Francis Bacon"
I understood it as "Knowledge is power, France is Bacon".
For more than a decade I wondered over the meaning of the second part and what was the surreal linkage between the two? If I said the quote to someone, "Knowledge is power, France is Bacon" they nodded knowingly. Or someone might say, "Knowledge is power" and I'd finish the quote "France is Bacon" and they wouldn't look at me like I'd said something very odd but thoughtfully agree. I did ask a teacher what did "Knowledge is power, France is bacon" meant and got a full 10 minute explanation of the Knowledge is power bit but nothing on "France is bacon". When I prompted further explanation by saying "France is Bacon?" in a questioning tone I just got a "yes". at 12 I didn't have the confidence to press it further. I just accepted it as something I'd never understand.
It wasn't until years later I saw it written down that the penny dropped.

LOL, it sounds like a CI5-Bodie-Doyle style password and reply: "Password?" "Knowledge is power" "France is Bacon. You may pass."
On a very different (not too much web-related) note, I was watching one Hercule Poirot episode yesterday (yes, on the YouTube, so it actually was web-related) and one dialogue made me really laugh: "I've got a splendid news for you, Chief Inspector!" "Really? You've already solved that murder?" "No. But someone's tried to kill me!"

May I just have a silly linguistic question? What is the proper pronunciation of "a" in "Francis" and "France"? I thought that in "Francis" it's more "e" like in "lens" and in "France" it's more "a" like in "bath". Or is the pronunciation of "a" in "Francis" the same as in "France"? Thanks for any help.

do you want english or french pronunciation ? in french, Francis is pronounced like France.
but i've just read that Francis is an english deviation of François, so you may spell it Fr"e"ncis with english accent.

Well that's how
*I* pronounce it but then that's the advantage of English. There is no authority to tell you that you're doing it wrong [

Yeah, I also pronounce it with an "a" sound, like France.
And this arbitrary person on a random
website I casually googled backs me up. You can't get a more definitive confirmation than that.

Thanks a lot, guys.

Now, I have to re-teach myself to pronunciate "Francis" properly.
