Part of the RAW is that if you have multiple attacks, you can launch them at different people, taking one five foot step between, before or after. SO it would already happen if it could happen :p

"RAW"?
And one other thing that's been bugging me for ages - what is that thing on the map that looks like a brown square with a darker brown, diagonal cross on it? It's in the top left corner, just in front of the stairs. A pit?

"Rules As Written"

And the brown square thing is the default for a false/illusionary wall. Brighteyes pointed it out when he first walked in (wittering away) so the partycould, perhaps, know it exists. If they aren't worried about attacks from the stairs, the illusionary wall might be a good place to hide from Seeroc. Assuming he can't hear their thoughts.

And more importantly, assuming the scorpion doesn't kill them all.

Ahh...fair enough. I bet Seeroc has all kinds of wards and magical guard-thingys around his lair so he'd be able to tell if anyone passed through them in the course of entering/leaving the room and therefore would be able to find them pretty quickly or something ;). Then again, I think Brighteyes said that up (or was it down?) those stairs is where Seeroc's pets live or something, didn't he? Or where he creates them, or something. So umm...yes, maybe not the best place to go, then?
Oh well, let's see what happens between you guys and this Scorpy bastard first :D.

I was not planning to be the one pressing the button...I planned to be in the front line with the fighters, and ready to cast spells. And also to be ready to grab the unknown character from behind the haze. J11 or so. If I press the button it will take a few rounds to dash over and grab him because I am in plate mail....

But someone has to do it, so if no one else is nearby Westian will do the honours.

Heh, well since all you guys are needed, and he's useless otherwise, you can always ask Brighteyes to do it. While he can't seem to do the tricky putting pendant to gemhole as well, he should be able to manage a running jump at the switch. And you know seeing people gettign attacked by scoprions will be interesting enough to justify him hitting it!

Ok, so just to make sure I've got everything. Brighteyes hits the switch, and Aurek's attempt to calm the scoprion goes off. Below is how I would interpret what is happening, yell if something is off. Anything in bold are assumptions or unclear.

I'll update later this evening, so hopefully everyone can pipe up if anything needs changed.

Good luck!

If the attempt fails:
- Farel grabs the squire, then quickly runs to join the fray
- Westian casts shield (or has he done so already)?
- Aurek and Haynuus should step back to Westian, standing in a triangle with Westian at the point for both flanking and shielding?
- Falkor lobs a fireball at the scoprion.
- Brighteyes should probably try to close the teleporters as quickly as possible?

If the attempt succeeds:
- Farel goes for the squire and pulls him free.
- Westian goes for the possibly unconscious/catatonic, possible dead other guy and pulls him free
- Aurek keeps the calm attempt going, mopving forward to protect Westian by blocking the scorpion?
- Haynuus stays between Westian and Aurek to cover either of them as needed?
- Falkor moves to covering the screamer, shooting if it moves?
- Brighteyes waits for the group to given the signla, then attempts to close the teleporter. Someone like Farel or Haynuus could double move over next round and hit the switch if the short gnome takes too long?

Sound about right?

I would like Falkor to try a war cry at the little critter, rathan than use a fireball at this stage :)

(a) Yes (he has not cast it yet).

(b) We probably should not close the teleportor until we have both men out.

Otherwise all is good as far as I am concerned!

Lol, if scoprion calming fails, practising warcry on screamers it is money! :D

Oooh, brave, brave man OB! So hang on,sounds like whether the attempt succeeds or fails, whoever is doing so should move pretty far forward to block the scorpion into the telkeporter area, allowing someone (like Haynuus or Farel in the event of failure, or Westian in the event of success) to grab the other figure.

And don't worry, you at least told Brighteyes to wait until your signal, and he'd probably find it funnier to see you guys attack a scoprion anyway!

Brave, or foolish? :D

But yeah, Westian would not be happy abandoning someone to die (if they are not dead already). I guess Aurek, and to a lesser extent, Farel would feel the same.

And maybe you are right...Aurek could move forward to block the scorpion. When we are ready to fall back (whether or not the hold animal plan worked) we could jump back together and get someone to press the button. I think I would trust Falkor with that job more than Brighteyes...
How do you feel about that LB? :)

Although we would possibly lose flanking bonuses.

If the scorpion attempt fails, I'm going to do the noble thing and completely stand my ground... attacking the scorpion if it comes up to me. My plan is to keep the scorpion in the square that the haze is currently occupying... leading to BBQ'd scorpy if someone else turns the haze back on. I'd imagine it to be somewhat like a deep-fried lobster :P

@Beo: If I succeed, how's this going to work?

As far as I can understand that, using "stay" means that I'd only have to successfully roll once (so long as no-one else threatens it, making it defend itself). Am I right?

Can I suggest you re-read exactly the circumstances that a command like that works... :D

Then, check the much higher DC for attempting to rear a wild animal under controlled circumstances to eventually obey your commands.

Don't worry, a DC25 success is good and it was a good idea. Just don't be surprised if the large wild chaotic scoprion of evil doesn't instantly become your pet.

But ok, cool, I gotcha, you will stand your ground, but will not advance, letting the scorpion come to you if necessary. We'll see how that turns out (alas, poor Westian...)

Hehehe, I think I'm almost as eager as Brighteyes is to see how this plays out.
Of course, that's probably because my character isn't even there. And stuff ;).

Actually, since I was at work I didn't have the DC table to hand, so the rearing animal doens't have as high a base as I recalled. Don't worry, I was working out the actual DC of what you wanted to do with the skill open at the time...

You can indeed. Nominate the square you want to stand beside. Do you want to do this along with Aurek calming, with the haze down, or do you wnat to try it through the haze?

The problem there: 1 internet connection to 2 PCs & no LAN cable long enough... the owner of the 2nd PC in the house has the internet when I sleep, and I have it when she sleeps (hence why I'm always sooooo tired). But, I guess I'll stay up for it.

I've started converting my DM clone over to C++ (Blitzmax leaks when you use local vars, and it was too late before I finally discovered the reason for the "garbage collector" constantly lagging up the FPS). So I'll go do some work on that. Who needs sleep? <insert sound "head impacting keyboard" here> :P

Ok, ok, just away to edit the post and then post it. Hopefully I took account of what money exactly wanted to do.

Umm, I don't know how to say this, but by the end of the post, your party is going to lose a character I'm afraid. What that means, and how everyone moves on afterwards, is up to you all.

Anyway, time to get editing and posting!
