I'm still pretty much sure they've made it all up just to make us look uninformed and ignorant. But they're not the only smart kids in the street: Hey, look, my Windows Happiness Coefficient is 89,45!

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
coolto hear about the ssd, I would suggest using that for booting , could gain some seconds. Or I mix sth up zhere. Just as a quick question, then non- tech thingies can take over again..(until another technical issue rises on the horizon) eerm to the question: whats the experience overall with the new hdd(solid state drive). guess the system must be more responsive overall? would like an assessment . now you could robably hit your pc safely and smoke like hell
or is this disk error prone in some ways? ( sorry for spelling , wrote that on my smart phone)
edit @jan: if you will install windows 7 someday, first thing you'll prolly see is the Leistungsindex; you really cant miss it

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
@Zoom: The SSD massively improves Windows boot time, plus the start time of all other programs.
My 2 year old Windows 7 installation was taking several minutes to go from a cold start to showing the desktop.
With the new SSD and a fresh install, it's now less than 20 seconds.
As for the WEI figures, yeah, I know they can be misleading, but it's nice to have a much more responsive PC now

I am busy spamming other forums.
An old online-game that I played gets resurrected, another beta just finished (and was exhausting).
From our old alliance-forum we sent a newsletter, and of course a lot of old mates say hello.
And it's true that real life treats us all more and more. If we will play again, then surely not old-style.

Actually, I'm not really here. Just a figment of a collective unconscious.

Alright, so it's two-and-three-quarters - it's not bad, but I would expect slightly more for a forum that has 1570 members.
And let's not forget Trantor who's banned, so it's 2,75 out of 1569,0 actually. That's much better.

Alright, to be unusually constructive and sensible and to give Gambit some ammo for thinking and reply:
The Hobbit movie - new trailer released today: http://the-hobbit-movie.com/2012/09/19/ ... trailer-2/
Looks like they've finally managed to turn The Hobbit into a full-blooded Hollywood action movie.

Yes, I saw that trailer and didn't quite know what to make of it! On the one hand, "Yay, The Hobbit!", on the other "Oh noes, WTF!?"
Is it true they are making it into THREE films - how the hell do you do that with such a basic story? I mean, I know they are adding some peripheral stories from Tolkien's extended writings, but even so....!

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
I've also heard they're making it into three films, apparently adding in backstory stuff on Middle Earth - maybe from the Silmarillion or something? I dunno. I was kinda "wtf" when I heard that they were somehow shoehorning Galadriel into the story, despite the fact that Bilbo and co. never go anywhere near Lothlorien. I was similarly "wtf" about Legolas, as he isn't in the book, but at least they have an excuse to fit him in since the group does actually go to Mirkwood, where Legolas lives. Kind of looking forward to see how they do "Riddles in the Dark" and wondering if they'll do anything about the fact that that bit got a bit messed up in the intro section of "Fellowship", when they show Bilbo finding the ring and immediately hearing Gollum screeching that he's lost it...

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
By the trailer it seems to be Gandalf visiting Galadariel. I'm guessing that the assault on the Necromancer, flashing forwards to Frodo to link some parts, and just really expanding thigns liek the battle of five armies will fill the time in.
Still, it seems odd that the Hobbit will run to the same film count as tthe Lord of the Rings, given the differing scopes of the two...
Don't expect t to be bad by any means.

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
I seem to remember hearing somewhere that Frodo's in it 'cause the film is basically a flashback from a point at the beginning of LotR, possibly where Frodo is reading that book just as he hears Gandalf approaching in his cart. Or that it's not directly from an LotR scene but from a new scene they've made of Bilbo telling Frodo the tale of the adventure he went on, back in the olden days when he was only fifty
.

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
Having watched the trailer once again, I'm really having mixed feelings about it (apart from the "three parts" thing that sounds a little bit... extravagant... if not like a way to get more money out of people's pocketsess).
On the one hand it's certainly going to be a very good movie - visually impressive, perfect effects to the last detail, entertaining, full of action. I think I'm going to like it as much as I enjoy the LotR movies.
On the other hand, I'm afraid they'll make it into "LotR 2" - they'll take the "LotR engine" and use it with a different story. But Hobbit differs from LotR completely - it's a completely different style, just a fairy-tale for kids, nothing else, not too serious (well except the Battle of Five Armies of course), no pressing save-the-world imperative. I'm afraid that a lot of the Hobbit style / feeling will be lost - and it's a pitty because I've always liked the Hobbit's lighter style. And of course, incorporating parts of Silmarillion into The Hobbit sounds like trying to crossbreed Tom and Jerry with Matrix. But - well - there's generally no way to make Silmarillion into a mainstream film (unless you're interested into faked documentaries), so perhaps incorporating it's parts into something else is basically the only way how to show it to people (although it would make much sense to put it into LotR).
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the film(s) very much - I'll just try to treat the book and the film separately (forget the book when watching the film and then try to forget the film when reading the book).

This effect is not only here, but in a lot of other forums too.
In all projects that I throw an eye on now and then, there's a big burn-out effect.
But that's also because we older ones are forced more and more to care for real-life and some income at all,
and 99% of this young generation goes other ways - and 117% just care for the alcohol for the next weekend.
Those people like Rasmus, or Petri's team (the time in that they realized the Grimrock-project in that quality requests all respect) they are pretty rare nowadays.

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
Yes, this is very true Bit. I may be 40 (and finally growing up!) but I'll always be interested in games and game development. I was never able to get into it as a career though. So it's great to see other people who were able to setup projects like Grimrock take off and be successful. I'll continue to mess around with my own game-related creative stuff in my spare time - it's my hobby after all, but that time is getting rarer and rarer, what with settling down with my girlfriend and all that stuff. I guess that's just the way life goes -- priorities change and along with that, our interests can't take up as much time as they once did.
I still look at the forum once a day, just to see what's going on, but when I'm busy that drops to once or twice a week. Eventually, I'm sure all us oldbies will stop visiting. I still hope that doesn't happen for a while yet though.

Re: INN OF LOST SOULS: general chit-chat thread
As you said, the evil is, the interest isn't really lost. But *they* suck one's lifetime more and more.
And those *they* are the money players that play 'globalization'. After all that game will end deadly.
But with the lifetime that they steal from you, they shift their end into the future...
The good message from today:
the gulf stream seems to stay stable - against all odds. (at least for the next ten years...)
