Aww, don't worry OB - Ameena wouldn't deliberately try to scare him - it will just probably make him jump if shes uddenly speaks or something and he hasn't noticed she's there ;). And she can only really leap out to help if the troll steps a square forward - then she can jump onto his side or something.
Anyway, I never know whether to read this thread first or the IC one. Chose this one today, so now I've gotta nip over and see what it is everyone's been doing, and whether that troll has attacked...

Nha, no update yet, waiting for Ian's move, OB's roll (I don't mind you doing a non-Invisible Castle one) and more importantly I won't update until I get home since lunch is over :)

http://invisiblecastle.com/ site is down. Can't relate our rolls to the characters on the web.

Still, you keep rolling your die, I'm jealous that I don't have one any more!

It is an-online dice roller that allows you to post a link to your result - all the links I have for my numbers are from there, Ian's too. I don't have any d20s knocking about, so it has to be online!

I used a different roller today because that site is still down. I rolled a 4 + 10 - 10 = 4. Damn, I should have stuck with Invisible Castle, its been good to me!

Oooh, replies! Ian, I'm assumign you are aiding in the diplomacy unless you tell me differently? And lol, at least I know you aren't cheating OB :)

Well, the good news is a check I made earlier gave the Trolin a natural 1, reduced down to 0. The bad news.... well, that will be revealed @6-7pm BST!

I had the same problem. Now I go for the IC every time - if there is some new development it is more interesting to read about it in character. Enjoy DnD and pizza!

@beowuuf- roll on the bad news! We can take it!

Beowuuf's DM game DM checklist
1. Lull players into false sense of security - check
2. Let players thinks DM is on their side - check
3. TPK in reverse alphabetical order - to do.

Don't underestimate how funny it would have been to have had your character dying, the group calling for a heal check, then realising the person with the best heal skill was actually...Falkor, I believe :D Falkor has cover, and lucked the dice roll! This is probably the last chance I have to just wipe out a player in one easy swing! Nooooooooooooo!

Again, this round shows how all my 'this is how the round will go, I've got my part written in my head already' thinking utterly disappears after the first action. In this case, the Trolin running due to the party's action or the Trolin rushing one of the fighters and swinging both disappeared as options when Falkor took credit for the kill!

I wish Westian and Haynuus had succeeded in their talking now, seems cheap to have such an interesting encounter degenerate into fisticuffs. Still, perhaps the talking isn't done yet... already I know I have no idea what's gunna happen next!

There we go, update properly finished off. Unlucky combat roll there for Ameena, but Haynuus has come in strong already for next round!

Ian, can you roll me a d6 for damage please incase you score a hit? Everyone else, decide how you will back up or flee the violent madness! You have one standard action and one move action (or one full round action) before the Trolin comes up with his club, swinging for the alcoves. And you are all at best a five foot step away! :)

Good luck!

@OB (or anyone else): Do you need the game to pause over the weekend?

Oh, just a reminder to everyone, if you are going to try an attack, remember to roll damage aswell so you can't blame me for a bad roll :)

Ameena and Falkor get 1d2 for bite/fists, Westian gets 1d3 for fists, as mentioned Haynuus gets 1d6 for the torch. I'll allow Haynuus or Falkor to reach the club, you can spend your move action to pick it up. The club does 1d4 damage in Falkor's hands, or 1d6 damage in Haynuus's.

If anyone has any complex actions they wish to do (like wrestling a prone Trolin for his club or determining the skill check for a distracting macarana), we can always delay for a day while the details get worked out :)

No, I'll just hit him thanks. I can use that previous roll right? I'll roll a 1d6 now though...

Let's see how much damage Haynuus can do with a torch. (1d6=2)

Can anyone not taking a direct action against the Trolin please roll me a perception check? ie -if you are aren't rolling a d20 for another reason, please roll me a d20. :)

Perhaps diplomacy would be a good option....lol!

Think this works:

Falkor:
Free action: Shout at Haynuus to hit Trolin
Standard action: Cast Flare spell at Trolin (Falkor rolls 1d20 and gets 10)
Move action: Move to G6

Oh I am glad invisible castle is working again! Westian takes a swing at the Trolins head with his shiny leather boots and rolls a 20! I would feel bad posting these rolls if I could not back them up!!

So that means I don't have to roll damage? It is 3 (max roll on 1d3) + 2 (strength) = 5? (but non-lethal damage IIRC?)

Edit: @beowuuf - I will be around this weekend so I definitely can post.

The poor frightened Trolin cowers around his precious club as the evil group blinded him, shoved fire in his face, and kicked him repeatedly when he was down. What had he ever done to them? He'd tried to talk to them and they'd brutally 'poofed' his friend. The poor Trolin cries salty tears...

:D

Oh, and yes OB, you are a bad person...I mean...the damage (and non-lethal nature) is correct. I much prefer the 4th ed way of determining a critical hit than the 3rd and 3.5's ed's method of re-rolling a threat. I'll have to play it by ear for critical hits with x3 damage and above when they happen.

Question - htf would I roll a 1d2, lol...flip a coin or something? Ohh, I just checked my character file and it actually says Bite is 1d3. Erm, a three-sided dice...riiiight, lol. Not sure why I didn't think of this before - maybe it's now I've been playing this stuff for real, I think of it, hehe. Though we're using different rules to the ones I've been playing tabletop with, so I'm bound to get confused over something sooner or later ;).
Oh, and another question - What is "lethal damage"?
And another question, which was going to be the other question that I just asked before I thought of that one - do these rules do the "attack of opportunity" thing, where anyone trying to move out of melée range of an opponent provokes an attack of opprtunity, which I think is basically a free attack even though it's not their turn.
Don't worry, I'm sure I'll think of some more stuff sooner or later...
Ooh yes, here's another one - can I try Bite as often as I like in combat? I'm presuming so - there's nothing in the race details which imply I have any kind of delay between attempts (I mean, beyond the fact that I have to wait to my next turn, of course).

Ooh, detailed quetsions I can't answer at work! I'll post as soon as I get home :)

1d2 = coin flip, or you intelligently split a dice roll how you like (even = 1, odd = 2, etc)
1d3 = 1d6 divided by 2, rounding up.

If you check the character sheet posted, I think i settled on the bite attack being no more powerful than your normal unarmed strike, so 1d2. Sorry for the confusion and going back and forth on that

The detailed abswers you are looking for shouldn't affect your action, I'll explain why when I answer the question (this Trolin set-up is perfect for showing some tactis and AoO stuff in action)

Yes, your bite attack is just an attack option like punching or swinging a torch. It just has a subtle flavour.

Non-lethal = knocks people unconscios, and easier to recover from. Lethal = normal damage, which will kill people. So if Haynuus's blow reduced the Trolin to 0, it's dead. If Westian's blow reduces it to 0, it's knocked unconscious. The damage from Westina's blow it would recover with some sleep and rest.

Your bite attack does lethal damage. You would either have to take a penalty to do non-lethal damage, or better just use your paws for non-lethal damage:)

Okay...that would all seem to make sense enough :). I think I'll just make a quick IC post to have Ameena recover from her attempted Bite attack (just to fill in an RP gap 'tween that attack and whatever she does next), but wait for other people to post and stuff before she actually does anything else - need to see if Haynuus's strike with the torch is successful, for example.

I think the fact that I forgot to ask you for an attack roll, the fact the attack roll was a special action that happened out of sequence, and the fact I updated awaiting the roll has messed up the sense of timing a little - hence Ian posting early I guess!

So everyone else has already posted : ) Haynuus's action will happen almost (but not quite) parallel with Ameena's next action. Doing nothing is acceptable (in which case, you can roll perception), and delaying to see what the Trolin does is acceptable (though I'll need an idea of possible actions in this thread from you) but I'll take your action into account before I resolve everything.

Basically, Ameena's action will start happening just after Falkor's flash and Haynuus has started his hit with a torch, so she can be aware they are happening, but will be before Westian has fully got his kick into the Trolin.

Play by post can be confusing in some ways for combat, but the good news is you all get included at the same time each update, instead of needing to wait while your turn comes around at a table.

Anyway, off home now, so will be able to update and provide some combat tactics/AoO comments!

Well, from an RP PoV, Ameena's attempted Bite attack was fuelled by adrenaline and by a combination of multiple fears sort of stacking up and causing her to leap out and attack. Now she'll probably just sit back a moment and wait to see what happens whilst she tries to get herself a bit more under control - otherwise she might panic and leg it and try to dig through a wall or something :P. She needs to sit down and actually talk to these people a bit so that she doesn't feel like she's just wandering around with strangers. Social knowledge of people is a very important aspect of murafu life - they like to get to know everyone they talk to, at least, as much as they can. Hence her preference for hiding in the background and scopin someone out before she steps forward to actually introduce herself or whatever. Since she couldn't exactly do that here, she's been thrown mentally off-balance to quite a significant degree (what with being stuck in an unfamiliar place and losing a load of memories and stuff too).
What with all these other attacks going on my Westian and Haynuus and stuff, they might well have the troll turned into a poof-cloud before she has a chance to do anything more, anyway. With what sense she's got remaining to her atm I don't think she'll fancy charging in again while there's an angry half-orc swinging a torch, anyway ;).
Oh, I copied and pasted the Character thread versin of my profile into my Word doc, so I'll reference that for skills and stuff now. It says I have +5 to Perception, soooo let's have a roll...woot, 17, that's a bit better :P.
So a total of 22 including the +5 :D.

Ooh, cool roll! Your perception roll won't suffer if, RP-wise, you actually feel Ameena would take a step back. I'll explain now I'm home about Attacks of Opportunity, and why sometimes backing off might get Ameena in trouble, but at this point it's fine :)

Anyway, I'll update in the story thread in a little bit, and also answer the longer attack questions here. Oh, and answer your PM Ameena - sounds like you had a fun evening! :)

I'm probably gonna get confused at some point or other because of the different rule set (we're using 4th Edition at tabletop...I think it seems simpler than the one you're using, Wuffy ;)), but I can just bug you with questions to get it right ;).
Ameena hasn't physically taken a step back - she's still in the same square, next to Westian...but since from RP perspective she had to pretty much leap onto the troll to try and bite him (as she will with pretty much any creature if she doesn't want to be nibbling their ankles...at least, in cases where they actually have ankles), I just RPd that she returned to that square to make it sound less weird, even though mechanically she's never left it. I think the troll will be a bit busy with the bloodlusting half-orc and the tall half-elf to pay attention to the little furry thing that missed ;).
