You've summed it up perfectly. I got stuck and gave up once as I didn't realise I had to use the banana on the metronome. It was obvious of course!...

Ameena had to point out how to hold corrosive pirate ale, even though it was obvious afterwards, meanwhile the helmet substitute was instantly got. It's just one of those puzzle games

LOL. Oh, sweet memories! I also remember being stuck for ages before I realised I had to place a
bucket'o'mud on top of an almost-closed door
and wait for Largo to enter the room. Brilliant!

I just downloaded kings quest mainly because in my move I found my original box but it was suffering major water damage so I had to toss it.. found my DM disks and box safe and sound though! I think I only played monkey island 2, and played the recent one's demo on ps3.. and I must admit their banter was fairly faithful to the original, despite a different creator.

Sorry I'm late to the Monkey Island discussion. But fot those who are fans of Kings/police/space/ect(Leisure Suit Larry, which my dad aptly called Sex Quest) Quest/Monkey Island, check this out:
http://wadjeteyegames.com/gemini-rue.html
It brings back memories. While it has a more serious tone than Monkey Island, its an amazing Sierra-style point and click "use the everything on everything" sci-fi game. Ever since the indie explosion, ive played a few of these and this is hands down one of the best recent entries. I'm generally not a fan of this style although I played them back in the 80s, due to the aforementioned getting stuck and my extreme lack of patience. But this ones worth it. I got it on Steam when it was on sale for 4.99USD a couple months ago, think its 9.99 now. But its worth the 10$.

LOL. It reminds me a story of a young Czech girl working as a waitress in an Irish pub. When the landlord asked her to work overtime, she replied: "Only if you get down on your knees and please me." (of course she meant "beg" but in Czech we have basically the same word for "please" as an exclamation and "ask / beg" as a verb).
@Raixel: thanks, good find, I'll look at it!

Although I guess I might struggle with the

of it, it still looks very promising.

I am so excited about the Mars probe landing in a month's time! Largest probe ever, size of small car!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2012/ ... on-to-mars
This (fun but over-dramatised) video shows what should happen during the landing and subsequent exploration. Let's hope it all goes smoothly and that 10 years of work and $2.5BN doesn't go 'splat' on entry...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4boyXQuUIw
The entry process is pretty complex; imagine all the things that could wrong! I'm trying not to think about that... and am keeping my fingers crossed for a successful landing

Ohh yeah, I've been keeping up with Curiosity for aaaaages now - my dad's into all that kind of stuff so regularly checks the NASA website for updates. First time he showed me the concept vid of the thing landing on Mars I thought "omg that's so comlicated, there is sooo much that could go wrong there...", but so far it's been really amazingly accurate and perfect and stuff, so hopefully it'll land just fine and everything will be cool

Have seen this all over the web recently: I'm pretty sure it's not a hoax, but naturally McDonald's insist no-one touched him -- so we'll have to wait and see what's revealed in due course...

Um, yeah. I saw the first of that. Didnt know it was continuing. As I'm a bit of a luddite, the concept of attaching something to your skull like that is kinds cringe-worthy. Especially since if someone takes offense and tries to grab it, ouch...
But then on some level it makes me go "slot in and jack out! we're on a run chummer!"

Spanish fresco restoration botched by amateur:

I really had to laugh here a lot - even I would do it better (I think). If I imagine the old good poor woman, genuinely trying to restore the thing with all good intentions, patience, devotion and care and then looking at the result and then the "D'oh" moment when you realise you've probably screwed it up
a bit... poor old good lady. I hope they'll be nice on her.
