Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
He made a couple, but everyone was all making aeroplanes with their hands and dancing around Soorec's room, or something like that, so I don't recall how they were distributed.
But yes, as a group you guys do need to be pro-active in grabbing what you need from each other before fights.
Anyway, computer looks horrible, but the card seems stable right now, so will do the update for the weekend right now.

Oh cool, Ameena is literally almost right above Westy and the leech - that should mean the IC post I just made can stay as it is, then - I wasn't sure how far away she'd end up from them when she got down from the wall

Well Westian did want to get right beside you
I'll leave you in suspence about exactly how the climb movement works... and more importantly, whether your climb roll would be high enough

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Lol oh yes, I rolled a 3 or something, didn't I...well, I was hoping that my innate bonus to Climb would be good enough. Technically any kind of roll is better than taking 10, which I can do any time on Climb and Swim, because then, presumably you do literally just take 10 and don't add on the bonus. Since my bonus is 14 I can never score lower than a 15, which sounds at least moderately averagely okay
.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Lol, nope, exactly wrong! Take 10 means 'I don't think I need to get a high roll, so I'm goign to accept the average roll, add my bonus, and pray'
Usually you can't take 10 in a stressful situation - take 10 is usually 'I think my swimming is good enough to not drown, I think my perception is good enough to walk down the corridor without breaking stride'. You still usually roll to swim away fro mthe shark, or to spot the sneaky bugger behind you during combat.
Actually, note that your passive perception and insight in 4th edition is an automatic take 10 because it was felt it was just stupid not to assume the player/character does that all the time anyway.
However, your rattie racial traits mean you can take 10 even during stressful situations. So, if you reckon the wall has a DC of 24 or less, you can simply do it - providing you take 10. If you roll, it's assuming you are really scrambling and panicking - so you might be able to beat a DC25, or you might fail
So if the wall looks really shear and is wet, you might be gambling. On this far wall, that's a little rockier and drier... well, I'll say no more

Ahh, so I could have taken 10 and scored an automatic 24 (yeah I know I can take 10 on Climb and Swim whenever I like - it's noted alongside that skill in my profile
). Then again, Ameena was moving pretty quickly - a friend in trouble is probably about the topmost priority of stuff murafu want to deal with.

Oops, apologies for leaving a test thingie up!
Anyway, just a reminder that Westian's condition, and Ameena's potential attack roll (if she's allowed to make it) and Haynuus's manoeuvering will probably not be resolved until Wednesday.
Teehee.
Still if the opportunity presents itself, I will - of course - update. Normal service to resume Wesnesday for sure!

I forgot I had done this, I did not mark it on my character sheet (bad OB, bad). I had to trawl through the IC thread to find it. And I certainly did not pass them around, so I guess it does not matter any more.oh_brother wrote:It was good to see Ameena somewhat recovered......

Well, it matters in as much as you don't need to cast them now that we're in battle - it's just a matter of reaching into whatever pocket/pouch you keep them in and having a swig
.
Doesn't help the rest of us too much (well, certainly not Haynuus and Aurek) at this time, but hopefully we can manage not to die just yet so you can deal us out some pots later

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
No, lying on the ground carries the same penalties regardless of if you are on your front or back, and also if you meant to do it or actually fell over. The penalties come from the awkward position, and even though a murafu can travel well on four legs, they still are bipedal, and have altered muscles to do that. Only a truly four legged creature would be on its side/back when prone, and get no penalties for being its normal oprientation. Those four legged creatures can't stand up and use weapons, of courseAmeena wrote:OOC - Technically, Ameena being in the "prone" position only counts if she's actually fallen over, right (ie has no feet on the ground)? Because, mechanics aside, she's much more agile on four feet than on two. It just means she'll have to be more defensive and less able to attack (unless she tries to nom stuff). I suppose her all-fours advantages are balanced out by the fact she can't attack quite so well. And the fact that everything becomes further away from her when she's that much lower to the ground
.

Ameena still needs to drop her weapons and any hand/foot held items to be manoeuverable, otherwise she will have the same movement penalty as anyone else - restriction ot a 5 foot crawl. Prone, like everyone else, she takes a -4AC penalty against melee attacks, though a +4AC bonus against ranged attacks, and a -4 penalty to her hit rolls. All this last lot come from her being in a worse position to attack people (which is true) and providing more or her body against an attack (also true).
Luckily, now you have the unarmed feat, Ameena doens't provoke an attack of opportunity for not having weapons, her bite counts as a light weapon, and she can swap around lethal and non-lethal damage. So she still has penalties for being prone, but at least she can move around fast as per her race, and doing so she still has a 'light weapon' due to her feat. She's now like pain rats, etc in her effectiveness

I don't know what time beo is going to be back tomorrow, but I won't be around all day. Back on Thursday!

That was some bad luck!ian_scho wrote: It was not his day, however, as chance would have it (1 in 400, in fact) his trousers had fallen down around his ankles.

Friends leaving early tomorrow, but i'm going to work. So update tomorrow evening, in line for all of you posting Thursday
And wow, that was some bad luck Ian, but a great description. Meanwhile, great idea OB, it should pay off a little tomorrow!

Hehe yeah, I noticed the addition of a new thread (which I won't read, so I don't spoil it for myself by knowing what/where his character is
).
Meanwhile, I think Ameena may have possibly ganked one of those leeches. Or at least severely maimed it

Yes, welcome to our newest member! I hope your character is some sort of strong, friendly fish-man who happened to be swimming in the water where Aurek fell in.
Falling into water in full plate cannot be good. Alas poor Aurek, I knew him...

Yeah, I had assumed you were female until that post (I knew someone called Raixel before). Afterwards I re-read all the previous posts but could could not find any mention as to whether beo was right or wrong. Anyway, as I said before, my name (Enda) is always assumed to be a girls name by people outside of Ireland, so I know how you feel!

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Well, you can understand my confusion, after all your avatar is female.
Oh. Wait.
Anyway, to change the subject completely, people might also know we have a new player starting to post, although she hasn't joined the main thread yet.
Also, you guys (except the one that's also a girl) better get a move on discovering how to get to her so she can join the main thread!

Well, alright, after we kill the leeches and deal with the wasp and the Water Elementals (or whatever that wet-looking blue-ish stuff is) and attempt to retrieve the Amazing Disappearing Paladin.
Any news from LB, btw? Is he still ill? Reckon he might be back playing with us any time soon?

All movement in circles lead to a dull and stable wall going nowhere. Ultimate stagnation from infinitie entropy.
BEST LINE EVAR!

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Lol, best badly spelt line ever, but that's never stopped me before. Thanks!
And RSI is repetative straing injury - LB got a weird elbow issue from computer usuage...or at the very least, computer usuage wasn't helping. That's my understanding, anyway.

Ack! TECHNOLOGY IS KILLING US!ian_scho wrote:RSI - Repetitive Strain Injury
Actually, years ago i severly sprained the first joint on my thumb (the one closest to the palm) to the point of where I actualy tore the joint. Didnt go to the doctor or anything (I was 16 at the time, can you blame me) and just let it heal on its own, which took a year or so. To this day (almost 15 years later) if I spend too much time playing console games, it aches to the point of where I can't move it.
Poor LB, that's gotta suck. Mebe we should get him a voice-to-text program

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : OOC thread
Currently it would need to be a voice-to-text-to-underwater program!
