Urrffrah is confused and slightly annoyed when Growlgra tells her not to speak her own language. Why not? She was speaking it earlier, even if she could only be understood because of the neck-gem, which she realises as Growlgra speaks isn't working at all and won't translate anything anyone says. After she and Growlgra discover the beginnings of a trail, she changes back into her goblin form so that she can attempt to speak their language. She realises she left her rags behind on the ground when she changed shape earlier, but sees no point in trying to run all the way back to get them. She doesn't understand why people cover themselves anyway.
She watches as Westy-an uses his unpleasant magic to do things to Thessan, presumably trying to help him, and the other lizar stands around making miserable-sounding noises instead of doing anything useful. Sssil and Growlgra, meanwhile, seem to be discussing the trail.
"Hunt?" she says, attempting to use the msotly-unfamiliar language of other creatures. "Wannnt...hunt. Find...wun...who tryed kill...Zzhh...Zzzh...Zhhezzhhann. Hunt...finnd...eat...zhenn, no mmorrrr....kill. Yezzhhh?"

Translation for Raixel...
Spoiler
Exact - "Hunt? Want hunt. Find one who tried kill Th...Tthh...Thessan. Hunt, find, eat, then no more kill. Yes?"
Elaborate - "Shall I hunt it? I want to hunt it, and find the one who tried to kill Thessan. I'll find it, hunt it, and eat it. Then it can't kill anyone else. Yes?"

Note that there's already been a loud noise coming from here - Urrffrah howled to get Sssil and the others over here quickly. Unless you have any amazing ideas, I'm really not sure if Urrffrah can be of any practical use assisting in the aid of Thessan. As you can tell, she's up for just charging off and finding whoever did this, and removing them from existance ;).

Sssssil tries to comfort his friend, beginning to understand the odd visions. However, Ssssil has no pleasant visions to share. All he can do is keep thinking of Growlgra sick and lying down, and then Westian staying close, and then Growlgra walking around now. He keeps thinking the same circular thoughts to Hissssa, but isn't sure if it will reassure his little friend, as it does not fully reassure Sssssil. Still, Westian does have his moments.

"Hunters say no one close," Says Ssssil quietly and shyly to the others. "we can signal, and should be alright." With the immediate fear of those who could do this gone, Ssssil's anger bubbles up again. He does't pay much attention to Urrffrah's lack of clothing, as mammals in general and goblins in particular seem strange no matter what they wera or do not wear. again he finds his arms restless, going to his weapons. He can't do anything for Thessan. All he can really do is track. And Growlgra and Urrffrah are skilled too. Sssssil remembers Thesssan staked to the tree, and has to hide the image so he doens't get too angry, and so it does not transfer to Hissssa.

Ssssil looks to the direction those left, his heart feeling odd again...

Ssssil remembers the gore on Thesssan's hands, and looks to the teeth of his companions, and then his hands shake with fear instead. He shakes his head. He points to Thesssan, then up and down his own arms, then Thesssan again, and then back to the place where the attack occurred, and then back to Thesssan. He does it a few times to see if they understand. He then motions as if to attack, then points to his head, and then gives a 'no' motion, then moves his arm as if striking somehting again. He points in the direction the attackers are supposed to have gone, then points to his head.

Let's see if that one translates!

Ssssil turns his back to the two hunters, and moves over to Thesssan again. He fumbles around, not quite sure what he can do. Even with his back turned, he can feel as if theree are three figures watching him reproachfully. His two companions, real hunters, who want to go and do waht is right and what they should be doing, hunting the attackers. But Sssssil is too afraid. And he feels a third, illusionary figure standing behind him. It's a figure that looks like him, but slightly taller, and slightly broader, and much braver and more certain. That imaginary figure is staring at Sssssil, and slowly drawing a sword blade over an axe blade, making slow, deliberate noises, tapping his foot imatiently and looking at himself with disgust. However, Ssssil can't bare to go and face people that can make you do what you do not want. Nor make his friends attack him.

And so Ssssil tries to ignore everything, and rummages aroudn for any curatives he has. He recalls the small charm he has that purifies liquids. He knows Hissssa's poison tries to paralyse things, or he thinks it does, perhaps if it is diluted in one of the healing liquids and purified by the charm, then it might make something that will force Thesssan's body to settle down and repair itself. Or at least stop it needing failing so quickly, until someone more powerful can work on him. Like he has heard a body sometimes does with big trauma.

Ssssil isn't sure it's a good idea, but at the very least doing something like that will help Hissssa feel liek he is doing something, and also let Sssssil look like he is doing somehting too. He motioned for Growlgra to come over, still not able to look the furry hunter in the eyes, and tries his best to explain. He calls for Westian to translate again, hoping the elf doens't think him mad.

Sssssil will blow the owl whistle to try and get help - three more people seems appropriate, two to help carry and one more guard - and then will try to help Thesssan. Urrffrah and Growlgra can rush off if they want, Ssssil's a little shaken right now!

Holy crapballs, rolled a nat 18 for the Heal check!!! Whatever dice hated Thesssan in your attack must feel bad now. There's a +7 on that with Heal kit, and if the bloodmoss used carries to this roll, that would be +9. Well it would be that anyway with even one successful aid another bonus.
The other two rolls to make up for that are 2 and 10.
http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3545833/

Edit: Ok, double holy crapballs, just rolled some knowledge(nature) for any sort of science to back up Ssssil's wild flight of fancy, and it came back with a nat 20!!! Add the +5 skill bonus, that's 25! So even if it is crazy, hopefully Sssssil will realise it and off the back of that idea come up with something less insane.

Oops, I forgot to roll that 3d20 this morning 'cause I had to quickly finish the post and then go to work. I suppose you could have just used the first three from that list if you got here before I did. But I'll make those rolls now for you...15, 4, and 6. Hmm, bleh :P. Anyway, unless anyone suggests that she do something else, Urrffrah is gonna leg off and try to hunt whomever it was stabbed Thessan, or made him stab himself, or whatever happened - Urrffrah herself doesn't really care exactly what happened, just that a member of Sssil's pack has been injured and therefore is Bad and must now be hunted :D.

Oops, I wrote "he" instead of something more clear. It was Westian that said that, not Growlgra. Growlgra just looked at you oddly. Growlgra has a pretty odd way of speaking, so its obvious when hes talking. I forgot you didnt know that. Sorry. And Ameena, if you want to run off, we could do a week-long hunt the bad guy while Beo's gone. That could work. IOf course my mini-stories have a habit of being 3 months, but I think I could do a short chase without giving too much of the main plot away. Or you know, Growlgra's people use large dogs to pull travois like the Natives here did before the Europeans brought horses to North America in the 1500's... :D

Sssil blows the whistle, sounding the day owl call for help. The three blasts echo through through the trees, stilling the natural sounds around the small group. Slowly the sounds come back, and Sssil reflects that the creatures of the swamp know nothing about the tragedy here, going through their daily lives heedlessly of the pain in the small group. The unconscious Thessan coughs weakly, a bubble of blood bursting on his lips. Westian hands Sssil a roll of clean bandages, and them helps the tracker prop up the mortally wounded lizar so that Sssil can wrap the bandages around the scarred warrior's midsection. Sssil deftly winds the gauze around and around Thessan's torso to put pressure on the bloodmoss-packed wound. When he is finished, he ties it off and looks at his handiwork. Although there is a tiny red spot appearing on already, the pressure from the bandage appears to have slowed the bleeding somewhat.

"He is dying. His life-beat is much slower! We must do something!" Kalisssa says worriedly, as she holds her mate's wrist to check for his blood-strength.

Sssil's vision narrows to just Thessan. Thessan and Hisssa, who is weaving back and forth in front of the tracker's face, trying to comfort his friend. Hisssa's venom. Sssil knows it stops nerve impulses and coagulates the blood, eventually paralyzing the lungs and weakening the heart to the point where the thickened blood causes a heart attack. Paralyzing. Coagulating. Something tickles the edge of the tracker's mind. The faces of his companions swim in his vision as he thinks. While Hissa's undiluted venom directly in the bloodstream wouldnt work here, as it would just keep Thessan from breathing, if it was applied directly to the wound in a weakened form, it might stop the old warrior from bleeding out. Of course icould do a lot more damage if it got beyond the wound into his heart. And the swamp-lizar charm may not have the desired effect on raw snake venom. If anything, it would completely dilute it, turn it to water.

Thessan has lost so much blood, already. Even if the bandages could keep him from bleeding any further, his padded skin is sunken and drawn and his scales dull from bloodloss. There was also most likely internal bleeding, judging by the blood around the old warrior's snout and the occasional red-tinged bubble that pops on his mouth as he coughs. What if somehow, the blood could be put back in? But from where? The giant red pool around the dying warrior wasn't going to work, it was soaked into the mud and crusting over.

Hisssa nuzzles his upset friend's snout, and then yawns. The vipers long retractable fangs flip down as he opens his mouth wide, then flip back up as he closes his mouth. Venom. Hissa's venom gets in through his hollow fangs. Hollow fangs. The tracker looks at Kalisssa, holding Thessan's wrist to check his life-beat. A lesson flashes in Sssil's mind. "All living beings are full of hollow tubes their blood and VI-mana goes through, pumped by the heart." Hollow fangs, hollow tubes. What if Sssil could connect one of his or Kalissa's hollow blood-tubes to Thessan's, like Hissa puts his venom in his prey through his fangs? Then Thessan wouldn't die right here.

There is bush in the swamp called lohss'ah, relatively common, that drains blood from small animals. If something brushes by it, it shoots out a mass of large hollow needles attached to flexible thin tube like structures, that are connected to the main plant. Hollow, like the blood-tubes. Like Hissa's fangs.

The plant ignores large beings just walking by, but if something small brushes against the sensitive hairs on the main stalk under its wide umbrella-like cap of huge leaves, it shoots them full of barbed hollow needles on tube-like hollow stalks. It then drains the hapless creatues blood, and the dead body decays, providing fertilizer for the soil.

If Sssil could find a lohss'ah bush, get two needles and attached tubes and bind them together using wet leather, or stitch it then wrap it in parchment or leather. As long as theres some kind of seal, it should hold. He just has to make it be a long tube with two needles at either end, so he could put his or Kalissa's blood inside Thessan. Then the warrior could live long enough to get back to the caravan where there are lots of other lizar and healing supplies. It was a long shot, but it just might work.

So hows that for a natural 20 + a great heal result? Blood transfusion ahoy! You dont have to do it, of course. Just thought Id give you a really out there but feasable option for your two great rolls. And yes, Im ignoring Rh incompatibility. Maybe lizar all have the same blood type, eh?

He looks around and nearby off of the path he sees a large lohss'ah bush. If he could just find something to trigger the hairs without getting stuck himself, he could quickly sever the tubes before the plant retracts them. Although he is in no danger from the plant, as he is much too large and could easily pull the needles out if he happened to be stuck, he has been told that getting stuck with the inch long spikes is quite painful. But there's got to be a way.

K, I gave you an option. But youve gotta RP whatever you end up doing. You dont need to roll a heal to correctly stick yourself and Thessan with the needles if you decide to do this, youve already done that. Just describe making the tube, and what you do afterward. And roll a survival. Like I said before, you dont have to do it., you could use the vvenom, continue bandaging, try and haul him towards whoever is coming to help you

Growlgra watches Sssil's motions with his head cocked curiously to the side. He watches the repetition a few times and then his eyes grow huge as what the tracker is saying dawns on him. As if he isn't sure he understands, he motions to the area where the slain merchant lies, then Thessan's blood-stained arms, then his own head.

The bika motions Urrffrah over. "Does the barghest understand heart-friend Sssil's hunt-speak? This one has wondered why the warrior Thessan's hands are covered in red-life. Also, look to the handle of the warrior's weapon. It too is covered in red-life. This one thinks that is odd. Would the barghest be willing to use its nose on the warrior Thessan's weapon. This one has sadness in its heart that heart-friend Sssil may be right." says Growlgra to the barghest.

He listens to her and nods, seeming to understand her easily. "This one as well wishes to hunt the one-who-the-moon-turns-her-face-from who did this to a pack-friend. This one wishes for the pack to have the hunt of justice. But, also, this one is concerned about heart-friend Sssil's words. If the one of disorder one can get inside the head of the barghest or this one, the pack could be harmed by its packmates!"
Ameena if you choose to scent the weapon roll a spot and read the appropriate text. Feel free to do what you want with this info.

Under 10:
Spoiler
The blade smells of blood and guts. Lots of blood and guts.
10-16:
Spoiler
The blood of three different lizars is on this blade. One far more than the others, though.
16+:
Spoiler
Oddly, the blood staining the hold-part handle smells like the blood in the death area, like it came from the merchant. The blade smells strongly like Thessan's blood, but there are also traces of the smell of the blood from the death area, and another unknown blood smell. The unknown blood smell smells tainted somehow, and she really doesnt like it.
Nat 20:
Spoiler
(read 16+ first) As Urrffrah smells the long serrated sword, a similar scent attracts her attention. She goes over an snuffles at Thessan's arms. THe smell of the blood that coats his arms up to his elbows matches the smell on the handle of his sword.

Lol, the nat 20 means Sssssil comes up with the idea and has the same bloodtype, nat 1 means he comes up with the same idea and is a different bloodtype! Or Thesssan has lupus! :(

Ssssil realises that while the coagulating properties of Hissssa's venom might be good, the paralysis would be too general... Still, he does not want Hissssa to feel helpless, and besides it might give Kalissssa something to do too if she has tricks of magic - along with Westian - to isolate the properties.

Sssssil gently touches Hissssa's head to get his attention, and then projects his idea. He thinks of the swamp-deer that Hissssa attacked, focusing on the leg. He imagines a cut leg bleeding, then imagines a leg bitten by Hissssa and shows the blood stopped instantly. He imagines Hissssa biting one of Westian's strange flasks to let venom go, then Kalisssa and Westian waving their hands around with theatrical smoke and water. he then imagines the potion splashed on Thesssan, and then getting up.

Ssssil thinks more, however, on the thought of getting more blood in to Thesssan rather than trying to stop what's left - and what might be bad - from escaping. He shyly goes over to Kalisssa first, gesturing for Westian to come over. He lifts up Hissssa. "My friend," he says quietly, "Thessssan was kind to him. Thesssan kind to me. We do all we can to make Thesssan better." Sssssil feels odd at speaking, feeling even more self conscious given the ideas he wants to do. Or at least one of them. "Not sure if it a good idea, but my friend's vemon stops blood flowing out. I have stone that purifies water and liquids. If...if you both know magic, maybe you know how to make liquid to to stop his venom hurting Thesssan, but letting venom stop blood escaping. I have idea to put more blood in Thesssan. Trick like lohss'ah bush do, but in reverse." Sssssil pretended to be confident about it. "Even if venom idea not work, can you...try to make it anyway? My friend worried for Thesssan. It would give him something to do. And let me help give Thesssan more blood. Good blood, I tracked for days not stopping much!" Sssssil feels odd at actually having pride in his own blood, but it was true he seemed to keep going long after others had assumed he wouldn't.

So there we go, the poison idea is more of a distraction to everyone else to let Sssssil do the crazy transfusion idea. And doing that, it means Ssssil is decideng to stay put and wait for help rather than try to move Thesssan when he is bleeding out. If the transfusion doens't look to work (lol, dunno how fast it will be, with looking for parts, etc) then Ssssil might try the potion on himself when unattached to see the effect on his transfusion wound. Ssssil might lose a lot of hp and con here, who knows!

Spot check = woohoo! 28 (19+7) :D. So I get all the results except the crit one - not bad :).

Urrffrah listens to Growlgra. Yes! Sniff Thessan and maybe catch the scent of whatever did this to him - a good idea. Shifting back to her run-fast-hide-good form, she moves closer and carefully sniffs around the wounded lizar's forelegs, trying to work through every piece of information she can gather from the lizar and the red-life-water on him. After several moments, she changes back to goblin form and looks up at Growlgra, deciding that the others seem rather too busy with helping Thessan.
"Zzhhmell...Zzhezzhann. And dead lizarrrr. Annnd...otherrr. Otherrr zzhhmell...bad. Nnot...like."
She pauses a moment.
"Zzzhtilll...whont...finnnd."

Translation =
Spoiler
"Smell Thessan. And dead lizar. And other. Other smell bad. Not like.", then "Still want find."
Or "I can smell Thessan, and the dead lizar. And another smell, which smells bad. I don't like it. But I still want to find whatever made it."

However useful the dragging-Thessan-to-safety thing might be, Urrffrah herself would never think of doing such a thing, trying to drag someone along on a sled thingy. I expect we can yoink the sled thingy that was by the dead lizar and use that, but you'd need to ask Urrffrah if she'd mind helping out because she's never considered carrying out such a task - all she knows how to do is roam around trying to survive - hiding and hunting, that's about all she does ;). Btw, can we get any diea as to how long ago Thessan was wounded? I'm guessing only a few minutes or something, or he'd be long dead. Presumably whatever caused this took control of Thessan somehow and made him kill the merchant, then possibly stab himself, so whatever it was could have left before then, having given Thessan orders to stab himself after killing the merchant or whatever. Ooh I've said "whatever" rather a lot there, lol. Anyway, Urrffrah hasn't thought of the aspect of mind control - she doesn't really understand a lot of what people say, and it isn't the kind of thing she's ever come across. So she won't know about it. She just wants to find the nasty bastard who made Thessan leak his innards all over the place, and make them do the same. But not too much or she'll have to eat it all up off the floor ;).

Thessan's eyes open, and he looks into his mate's face. A bloodstained hand reaches up and caresses her snout weakly before flopping back down to his side.

"My beautiful Kalisssa," he says weakly. "I am dying...His eyes...they burn me. Burning..."

Kalissa gently touches her mate's face as her nictating membranes blink across her eyes. "Sssh. Say noting, my mate. You are going to live." the distraught mage whispers. She grabs Thessan's hand, and brings it to her chest "Remember what we talked about? How next drikkssa we would build a nest, raise a kakkiss? We have talked about it for so long, but remember how we decided next drikkssa would be it, we would buy a house in Makan, near Hassta's yard and help him with the caravans? Remember? Hang on to that dream, my mate. Use it to survive."

Thessan flares his nostrils (A lizar smile) and closes his eyes, lapsing back into unconsciousness.

"Sssil, have you any ideas? We don't have much time." asks the mage.

Sssil explains his idea with the venom, and Kalissa frowns. "I don't know of any magic that can do that." she says. "Besides, how would we stop it from going into his blood-tubes to the heart?"

Westian listens to the two talk, then suddenly jumps up. Hisssa hisses and retracts his head at the elf's sudden movement. "Zzzheel, Aye zhink Aye hav ahn ayedeya two mayke yoor plahn wurk! Eef wee tayke Heezza's poyzzin, Aye no ay wae two mayke ay pohtin two zztop poyzzin. Buht Aye ahm nawt zztrohng een mana. Eeet mite juzzt weekin eet eenuf. Eef wee puht eet ohn zee bahndahgezz, eet mite cauz zee bluhd two khlot, buht nawt geht ihnzzide heez bawdi."

Kalissa blinks as she puzzles out the elf's words. "Yes, but he has lots so much blood. Even if we stop the bleeding, its too much slready."

Westian looks frusterated "Zzhat Aye khanot heelp weeth. Aye ohnly khan cazzt wun mohr zzpell. Ahnd Aye feer zzee heelin izz two week." he says.

Kalissa sighs "Whatever yout think will work. But please, find some way to save him!"

Realizing what his companion wants and the urgency of the situation, HIssa launches himself at the corked bottle in Westian's hands. The elf lets out a *eep* and almost drops the flask as the viper strikes the cork. Sssil detects a sense of amusement from the snake at the elf's skittishness, although the viper is too concerned for Thessan to make any sort of Westian joke. Sssil can see the end of the viper's long fangs through the glass as they sink clear through the cork. There is a sense of concentration, and a milky white fluid starts to dribble out of the fang tips. After realeasing his venom, Hisssa works his fangs free from the cork and slithers back to Sssil. The tracker gets a sense of disgust, and Hissa open his mouth and strops his fangs on the shoulder plate of Sssil's leather armor to get the taste and feel of damp cork out of his mouth, before going back to his pouch. The viper's eyes sparkle with interest as he watches the proceedings. He seems happy to play a part in saving Thessan, although Sssil can detect some confusion, as Hisssa knows his venom is used to harm, not heal.

Sssil notes that there is only about ateaspoon of venom in the bottom of the flask. He reflects on the extreme toxicity of the substance. Westian holds it up to the light and concentrates on it while gripping his medallion in the other hand. Again he closes his eyes and speaks in Elvish. The cloudly liquid starts to take on a green tinge as clear water collects in droplets and runs down the inside of the flask, The two substances merge eventually becoming a deep sea green.

Westian opens his eyes and uncorks the flask. He sniffs at the potion and dips a long finger inside, rubbing the green liquid between index finger and thumb before touching it to his tongue.

"Aye haav nootralizzzed eet zzumwat." the elf says "Aye whil phut eet on heez bahndahgezz."

The cleric starts to dab the potion onto Thessan's bandages, making sure that he doesnt touch the surrounding skin with the mixture.

Growlgra watches the proceedings, although he looks alarmed when Urrffrah tells him what hse smelled on the sword. "So, the redlife on the handle of the metal sword was belonging to the lizar whose VI mana has fled. And so the barghest has smelled also that same blood on the blade. Does the barghest realizes what that means? The warrior Thessan killed the dead lizar. Most likely also the lizar Thessan was using his hands, at least at some point, for they are also covered in redlife. This one is worried by that. THe barghest has told this one that one of the redlife smells on the metal blade was bad? This one also thinks that the one who does this should be stopped."

The bika realizes something, "Can the barghest tell anything about the redlife on the hands of the warrior Thessan? Perhaps that is the smell of the packless one who did this."

If you choose to do this its the same deal, roll a spot and read the appropriate answer

Under 12
Spoiler
The smell of the blood is mixed in with Kalissa's scent, the scents of the swamp and the scents of everyone around. Its hard to seperate anything.

12-18
Spoiler
The blood on Thessan's hands definately came from the dead merchant and grahhssk/

18+
Spoiler
(in addition to 12-18) The blood is old, and was dead when it ended up on THessan's hands He must have done something to the bodies after they were dead

Nat 20
Spoiler
(in addition to the previous 2) While sniffing around, you find a couple spots of blood near Thessan on the ground that don't belong to either Thessan or the dead one. They have the same feeling of wrongness about them. It will be easier to track the one who caused this now.

"This one wishes to find the one who did this, as well. THe barghest and this one should track it down, so that it can not hurt more packmates." the bika says grimly

K, Im stopping there in case Sssil wants to do anything else. Growlgra is willing to go with Urrffrah, although he is quite concerned about what killed the dead merchant. He has suspicions about what exactly happened here.

Ssssil will be doing the transfusion idea as he said, do I need to roll for searching or describe it? Or will the heal/knowledge rolls carry the day well enough?

Spot check = 14 (7+7).

Urrffrah shifts once again to her run-fast-hide-good form in order to best catch the scent on Thessan's forepaws. She is becoming excited at the prospect of a hunt, and the more information she can gather, the better. She wonders whether Growlgra would want to come with her, but doesn't know how he'll keep up, running on only his hindpaws. She has no intention of deliberately slowing her pace just to wait for him - the longer she takes, the longer the Bad One has to get away.
After taking in as much as she can, and without getting in anyone's way, she retreats once again to talk to Growlgra, again taking her goblin form in order to do so.
"Zzhmell ovv dead." she says. "Mmaybee...Zzhezzhann...finnd hurrrt. Trrrrry...hhelllp. Get...rrred-life-waaaterrrr."
She glances over at Sssil. The lizar seems too occupied with trying to help Thessan, so probably isn't about to come hunting.
"Izzz...tay-king...tyyme." she says to Growlgra, slightly impatiently. "Whont...finnnd. Hunnt. Youuu...zzhhlloww rrrrun? Nnot...enn...ennuff...legzzhh. I go...hunnt. Nnnot...wayte...ivv youuu...zzhhloww."

"Smell of dead. Maybe Thessan find hurt. Try help. Get red-life-water." = "Smells of the dead lizar. Maybe Thessan found him injured and tried to help, and got covered in blood that way."
"Is taking time. Want find. Hunt. You slow run? Not enough legs. I go hunt. Not wait if you slow." = "We're taking too long here. I want to go and find and hunt that bad guy. Do you run slowly? You don't have enough legs. I intend to go hunting - I won't wait if you're too slow to keep up."

Any reference to Urrffrah becoming excited means her eyes are glowing - so, when she was sniffing at Thessan just now. The glow will have faded again, though, when she started becoming impatient. She doesn't want to sit around doing nothing - she just wants to get a move on and kick some arse, even if that arse will just make her kick herself (or someone else) - the idea that Thessan deliberately killed the merchant is rather "wtf?", hence her suggestion that he didn't. Then again, she hasn't considered that lizar might be territorial and kill those not of their "pack", which is something I suppose I might have her think of soon. What probably actually happened is that Thessan stabbed the merchant to death and then used his hands to place the internal organs etc in that pattern. What a waste of good food ;).

Ssssil took the opportunity while Hissssa was helping to go kicking the ground for the bushes he wanted and the needle like items he needed. he needed something gummy or sappy - perhaps with more bloodmoss - in order to seal around any wounds he made. As for how to do it, Sssssil trid to remember the many wounds he had, and the various lessons he'd received loudly from those people patching up those wounds. The fact that there were not only areas that were more critical to not get injured, because because that was where blood pumped hardest, but also the fact that blood was not just in you, but was carries in small vessels, the heart pushing it around in one state or another. He guessed that one of those stonmg areas just after the heart started pushing was best to stick, so Ssssil's heart could beat for Thesssan's, in a way, and also ssssil's blood would be going aroudn the right way.

Sorry, gotta run, plus blood stuff like this actually makes me queazy so maybe I'll let you finish up as well as saying if Ssssil finds all his bits and pieces!

Well you dont have to describe any blood and stuff! Lke I told OB, only describe what makes you comfortable. The gory stuff is my job! And if I ever take it too far with descriptions, let me know. I was raised hunting, so blood and guts and stuff doesnt bother me, at all. I also, having cleaned many animals from deer to quail, have intimate knowledge of what living thing's insides look like.(I dont eat any meat unless I or someone in my family hunted it- its kinda a deeply personal/spiritual thing with me that if you eat a living creature you should be willing to kill it, out of respect for the life and food it gave you. I find factory farming and pumping animals full of chemicals/drugs to keep them alive in horrid and unnatural conditions so wrong...But I digress) So, I can sometimes go overboard with my descriptions in the interest of accuracy.

Sssil quickly gathers up the material, by poking a lohss'ah bush's sensor hairs with a stick. The needles shoot out, and he quickly severs their attached tubes with a knife before the plant can retract them. He quickly uses sap to glue the ends together, tying them off.

When he approaches THessan, the long needle tube held in his hands, he pokes Thessan in the best area, based on what he knows of anatomy. Then he puts it in hi sown arm and waits. Kalissa looks up and opens her mouth to protest, but the job is finished before she can even say a word. "What in SAR..." she manages to get out as soon as the needles are in place.

Ssssil is now attached to Thessan by a few feet of plant tube. He can only hope he poked the right place as it is impossible to see inside the thick-skinned green tubes. Westain and Kalissa look on curiously, but at this point Thessan is so close to death they aren't even protesting what must seem like madness. As the tracker waits, he can see that the odd venom-mixture Westian made appears to be doing its work. The bandages, instead of becoming saturated qith blood, appear to be acting as a kind of sealant to keep the wounded warrior from losing any more blood.

Hisssa sticks his head out and scents te tube. THe poor viper is incredibly bemused by the whole situation. First, his venom, wwhich he knows hurts things, appears to be keeping Thessan alive, then Sssil attaches himself with a plant to the warrior. Sssil gets a mental image of a tube attaching the two, only instead of a tube, it is a Hisssa-amphisbaena, the two heads on opposite ends biting both Thessan and Sssil.

The tracker feels slightly dizzy as he looks down at the warrior. He feels the urge to sit. Suddenly, Kalissa jumps up. "His life-beat is stronger!" she shouts excitedly. Sure enough, some of the sallowness has faded from around Thessan's eyes and snout, his skin regaining its normal "padded" look. Sssil's vision swims for a second, and then very blurry. That should be enough to help THessan, and Sssil quickly pulls the needles out and applies a small chunk of bloodmoss to each of the punctures. The saccred warrior is breathing evenly, his skin looking healthy and his scales no longer dull.

Sssil feels slightly weak. But it is nothing his body couldnt recover from given time. I rolled a full +9 Fort for you. Sssil is ok, but he loses his +4 racial endurance bonus for 12 hours.Kalissa flares her nostrils in happiness and hugs Sssil. "I dont know what you did, or how you thought of it, but it should be enough to keep him alive until we get him back! Thank you. You have helped us more than we could ever repay!" she cries.

Growlra bares his teeth at Urrffrah "The barghest thinks this one is weak? The barghest thinks this one could not run with it? The barghest insults all the packs of bika, if it thinks one of THree Star could not run."

He turns quickly at a disturbance in the bushes, knife at the ready. Two lizar on grahhssk come riding quickly through the underbrush. It is the young male, Lissak, and the large green and grey male Dassrak. They both stop in shock when they see the state of Thessan.

"What happened here?!" asks Lissak in concern, as he looks at the greviously wounded lizar. "We came across a grisly scene farther up the path and went back off the trail in case whoever did that was still around."

"We'll explain on the way, no time now" says Kalissa. "Lets get him on a grahhssk and back to the caravan."

The two nod and dismount. "Well, how do you think the best way to do this would be?" asks Dassrak. "We brought ropes and canvas. We could make a stretcher, or just tie him in the saddle. These are war-saddles. They have special loops to tie an injured or unconcious warrior in place. It would be faster, but it might put more pressure on his wound."

Kalissa turns to Sssil and Westian. "Any ideas?"

Growlgra and Urrffrah, standing off by themselves, watch the proceedings. Westian notices them and walks over "Are you coming back with us?" the half elf asks the two. Growlgra shrugs "This one perhaps should go with the barghest and track who did this. Besides, the braghest thinks this one is slow. This one must prove it wrong. But, this one does not wish to leave the pack behind, especially if the packless one has a way to make the mind confused."

Westian nods. "Very well. Perhaps you should go with Urrffrah. Or maybe you should ask Sssil to come too. Although I am sure with what strange magic he just did, there will be questions at the caravan."

Growlgra walks over to Sssil and motions to Thessan's wound, the tracks left bby the unknown lizar, and then Urrffrah. Go with Urrffrah, find enemy? Then he motions to Thessan and the two who are busily removing ropes and canvas from their saddlepacks. Or with THessan, to caravan?

Urrffrah blinks when Growlgra seems offended that she thinks him slow to move.
"Onnnly...zzzheen...zzhhlowww mooovv...wwhhizzhh zzhhat...menny...lleggzzhh." she says. "I go. Youuu keep up...ivv...cannn."
So saying, she shifts into her run-fast-hide-good form and wastes no more time, eager to get on with the hunt. She stats scenting the ground and attempts to follow the trail as quickly as possible, wanting to catch up to whomever made the trail as soon as she can. The strength of the scent, she knows, will tell her how close she is, so she'll know when to slow down and listen for sounds of her prey.

Translation...

"Only seen slow move with that many legs. I go. You keep up if can." = "I've only seen creatures move slowly (slower than me) when they have that many legs. I'm going - keep up if you can."

Best make some checks to follow the scent, I suppose. So a Spot check, I presume, which comes out at...hmm, 16 (9+7). I suppose that's the only check I need to make for now, yes? Urrffrah will try to follow the scent trail of the "Bad One" as fast as she possibly can without running into a tree or something ;). If the scent gets strong eonugh that she thinks she's getting pretty close, she'll switch to Stealth Mode. Do you want a roll (Silent Move and/or Hide) in case I do get that close? Hopefully whomever it is won't have laid traps or something - as a player I'm aware something like that could have happened, but Urrffrah's never hunted something that might try to stop her from doing so by any method other than running away, so she hasn't considered the possibility.

YAY!Cool NPC didn't need to die! *dance* Eh, iget quezy thinking about explicitly that sort of transfuson/blood stuff. Usual gore stuff doens't really get to me, and I can usually walk away and come back from even discussions about medicl blood stuff and be fine. Just I had a train to catch this morning!

Ssssil was still a little light headed, and wasn't quite sure why Kalisssa was hugging him nor whay Hisssa was giving him weird visions in his head until a moment after the fact. He didn't want his friends to go off hunting the creatures, especialyl since he felt at his most wretched. Thesssan was doing ok, but Ssssil was still terrified.

Go. Ssssil motioned sadly. I stay. Ssssil felt even more wretched. Be careful. he also motioned to Growlgra.

Umm, I think it better to play Ssssil being very woosy and afraid, and he could always track the guys later if they don't come back. If it's easier, he can try to go with them I guess? Sorry, long day I should probably hjust reply tomorrow instead, but just in case I'm running around too much I thought I better post something.

Alright. Beo If you havent left yet (its 6 am here), I'll just assume that Sssil goes back with everyone. Growlgra and Urrfrah are taking off to hunt the bad guy. So the Thessan/Sssil/caravan story's gonna be put on hold till you get back. And yeah, I honestly didnt think you guys could pull that one off. Good job.

Post later, its 6 am. :P

Quickly the two outriders, Kalissa, Sssil and Westian get the greviously wounded Thessan strapped into the war saddle with a web of ropes.

"I'll let the others know you two are going off after the stange lizar that was around here." Westian tells the two.

He walks up to Urrffrah and looks her directly in the eyes. "Remember, you are part of a pack now. If you see something that is too strong for you to take on alone, please come back and tell us. Don't try and fight it by yourself." the half-elf cautions her.

He goes back to the party gathered around Thessan and the grahhssk. "Be safe! Come back soon!" he calls as he waves a paw in the air.

"Saasdirash, ne'lithaan!" Kalissa calls as well.

THe small group leaves, Sssil and Dassrak walking on either side of THessan to support him and keep as much weight off his midsection as possible. The wounded warrior is sligtly more alert, ocassionally opening his eyes and looking around. He still seems greviously wounded and in mental shock, however. THessan's grahhssk is tethered to Lissak's, with Kalissa and Westian bringing up the rear.

"Shaaa!" calls Lisssak as he kicks his grahhssk into a slow walk. Within seconds the party is lostt in thick foliage, only the crashing of them moving through the swamp to mark their passage.

"Well, pack-mate." says Growlgra. "What should the hunters do now? This one notices the tracks of the packless one were made a bit ago. Perhaps the hunters should move to try and catch up. But perhaps we should not run like the bdrgn. If the packless one is not very far ahead, if the hunters run, it could hear the hunters approaching it. This one thinks perhaps we should move quickly, but make sure we are silent as the ngatk-wra when it hunts its prey under the twin moons."

"Let the hunt begin!" he ays, as he takes a fore-claw and draws a line down his muzzle and points in the direction the tracks appear to go.

Roll a move silent and hide, even if you dont need them now you might later and itll keep me from having to stop to have you roll. And since you arent as familiar with 3.5, ill tell you OOCly what Growlgra said narratively. If you run, you are going to take mad move silent and hide penalties. Like to the point where moving silently (cuz youre in a swamp with lots of branches and stuff to make noise with) would be near impossible without 20s/1s becoming involved

Urrffrah already left - she didn't wait to be told "good luck" and all that. She already buggered off after saying that last thing to Growlgra 'cause she'd got bored of all the standing around and talking, and didn't want to waste any more time chasing down the prey (whatever it ends up being) ;). And I wasn't gonna have her mechanically use her Run feat - the vocabulary use there was more to emphasise that she's moving as quickly as she can but whilst still keeping on the scnet (so she knows where it is she's actually supposed to be heading) - I'm not sure she could properly sniff out a scent if she was flat out running ;). Anyway, yeah, rolling in advance for this stuff is probably a good idea ;). So, Sneak = 27 (19+8), Hide = 30!! (18+12). Oh I love my wolf-form bonus to that skill :D.
Incidentally, changing the subject a bit, would a creature with innate abilities (like Urrfrah's spel-like abilities) automatically know about them? I mean, I don't see any reason why they would unless they were told about them, saw another of their own kind using them, or managed to trigger them accidentally. I figured a while back I'd be going with that third option - if a situation calls for it, Urrffrah will be really wanting something to happen (ie something she has an ability for) and be surprised to find that it does. Not that any of her spell-like abilities will necessarily come into play here, but just for future reference. Though I suppose she might, on a previous occasion, have already triggered Pass Without Trace at some point (in the past, before coming to the swamp), whether she realised it or not - she probably just thought she was really good at hiding (even though she is) ;).

Crap. Can you resend your stats? I lost em somewhere. The only ones I have are the real old ones. And following a scent trail + heavy foliage(the tracks are leading into the deep swamp) means you cant move too fast, but you are going along at a steady pace

Growlgra barks sharply in surprise as he realizes Urrffrah isnt waiting around to answer him, but is already moving off through the trees with her nose to the ground.

"The barghest wastes no time" the bika mutters to himself as he runs after her. Surprisingly, even though the dog-man is small enough that he could almost ride Urrffrah, he is very quick on his feet, putting on a burst of speed to catch up and then settling into an easy lope at her side. His bare claws dig into the earth providing traction similar to the way Urrffrah's paws work, unlike the covered walking paws of the hairless ones and the lizar. For such a small two-legged creature, he seems very in tune with the ways of the hunt and his small size proves to be a benefit in the deep tangle of foliage, due to his ability to squeeze through gaps in the floage that a larger two-leg like Sssil couldnt. Urrffrah has a funny feeling that if it was Westian who was moving with her, she would leave him far behind, just staring at the trail of paw prints as she disappeared over the horizon. But Growlgra keeps up, although the barghest thinks if she using her true run-fast ability, she could leave him far behind.

Beo and I have a running joke of harassing Westian cuz he isnt wilderness savvy, so Hisssa is always popping out of offal piles and startling him, and hes always falling on his ass ect.

As the barghest moves through the heavy swamp, she finds little bursts of scent here and there that start coming more and more frequently. She slows and examines them. They appear to be drips of redwater. And farther up ahead, she sees splats of the same scented redwater on a bush. It smells like lizar, but a bit different. There is some sort of taint in it. Slightly up from that the scent gets even more heavy, and there is a smear of red on a tree by the base. There is also an indent in the mud under the tree.

"Does the barghest see something?." the bika asks, coming up to her to examine the tree that caught her interest. Urrffrah notices that compared to the way the lizar and Westian acted towards her and the few hairless ones she has seen besides Westian, the bika seems completely comfortable with hunting and speaking to a huge wolf whose shoulder is as high as his chest. The others always watched her cautiously even if they were friendly, and she could always smell a slight bit of fear on most of them, except for the odd being who wore thheavy loose cloth and big head-cover. The strange-smelling one who offered to cast some kind of magic on her. But even that being seemed wary around her, even if it wasnt afraid. Gowlgra and Sssil, in contrast, not only are not afraid of her, but actually seem comfortable with her.

"The one we are hunting rested here. And his lifewater splashed. Perhaps the lizar Thessan caused a wound." the bika remarks.

Urrffrah hears a crashing sound up ahead. Approaching cautiously with Growlgra walking next to her in an odd leg-bent position(he is crouching) with his green rock fangs held in each hand, she sees a lizar stumbling through the heavy undergrowth.

It looks a bit like the lizar of the wag-go things, but a littledifferent. Its bumpy-shiny skin dots are smaller than Sssils or the other lizar's, with more space between them. Its skin is beige, and the skin-dots are big light and dark brown blotches. Also, it looks like its hunts have not been successful, for its things-that-are-good-to-chew-on(bones) are clearly visible through its skin. Also unlike the wag-go lizar, he doesnt have insect-shell things and dried animal skin covering his whole body, but only wears something across the part of his body from his waist to his knees. From here, it looks like a bunch of animal skins stuck together that hang loose, kind of like what Growlgra is wearing. But unlike the bika, these skins smell like filth, even from here to the barghest's sensitive nose. It seems that however the skins are made to be dry and not smelly didnt work as well for this lizar. He also wears a round thing-that-is-good-to-chew-on piece hanging around his neck on a strip of dried animal skin.

The lizar stumbles along, tripping over plant-parts that stick out of the ground. Redwater leaks from between its fore-claws as it holds his paw aginst its chest. It seems tired and hurt, and doesnt look around or notice the barghest and bika watching it.

So hes about 15 feet in front of you. You are in the deep swamp, which has very heavy undergrowth. Visibility is limited to 30 feet, movement in a round to 15.

And if you want to do Urrffrah's abilities narratively like that, im totally cool with it.

Normally all creatures with inborn abilities know they have them instinctually. Kind of like how a human naturally learns to speak a language as a baby. No one has to teach it how to learn a language. Even feral/abused children who never had contact with others mimic the sounds they hear around them and learn language at a surprising rate once they are put in a normal environment. Inborn abilities are like that. They are something a creature can do naturally and instinctively. A blink dog doesnt need to learn to blink, a beholder doesnt need to learn to use its eye rays.

But since you are a PC, if you think it would be fun and/or add narrative depth to your char to say when the mage messed with her and tried to forcibly turn her into a slave/pet she lost the knowledge of them and they kind of pop out suddenly when she needs em and surprises her, go for it. Just make sure you narratively or OOCly let me know youre going to use em, though. Urrffrah can be surprised, but lets not surprise the DM too! :D

The "mage messing with you" is also a great way to explain how she gets stronger as she goes up in levels, instead of being as powerful as a"normal" barghest should be.

Don't worry, I'll make it clear OOC whenever I'm mechanically using an ability, whatever vocabulary I might use IC - for example, even if I were to say narratively that Urrffrah decides to "run really fast", that only means she's using Run if I say that she is OOC, otherwise she's just running-but-not-Running ;).

Urrffrah watches the lizar, eyes narrowed and unblinking. This must surely be the one that attacked Thessan - she didn't find any other scent trails leading from there. She doesn't see any sign of any sharp things in the lizar's forepaws, either. This one is very scrawny and probably won't be too good to eat. Still...no, wait, she'd better not eat this one just yet - what if Growlgra wants to talk to it? Well, she can let him do so if he wants, she supposes.
She wastes no more time - if this is the object of her hunt, then this is the point where she finishes the job. She tenses and then rushes forward, pouncing at the creature in an attempt to knock it to the ground and pin it there, putting her weight on it to stop it moving and clamping her jaws around the bit between its head and the rest fo it so that she can easily crush it if it tries to move.

So...I'm guessing this requires an attack roll? Urrffrah is basically just trying to do what was described above - pin the lizar down so he can't move or try to stab her or anything (even though he presumably doesn't seem to have any weapons). Then she'll pause like that to see what Growlgra does. I'll just make a normal melée attack roll, dunno if I get any bonuses for it being a (presumably) surprise attack or anything. So the roll is 21 (16+5). I'm not trying to do any damage so I won't roll any. Presumably the lizar has his back to Urrffrah and Growlgra (considering they were tracking him so they'll have come up behind him), so Urrffrah will just be knocking him forward into his face, putting her weight on him so he can't move his arms or whatever, then lightly holding his neck in her jaws. He ain't gonna last long if he tries anything, I hope .

Um. It would be a grapple actually, if youre trying to just grab him, hold him and pin him. But thats ok, you posted you original roll without the mods so I can just use that for the touch attack. You make it, so...

I rule that he was unawre (flatfooted - a rule I dont use much even though technically at the start of every combat youre flat footed, I think thats stupid, so I rarely use it except in cases like this when its not quite a surprise, but the target say has his back to you. Its in the http://www.d20srd.org/ hypertext if you dont know what it is) so he doesnt get an AoO at you for you attempting a grapple.

But I need a opposed grapple check (STRmod + BAB + grapple size mod but your grapple size mod is 0 so you just need the BAB+ STR mod). And I rule this is important enough to not use your pre-rolls. I'll be checking the board today and as soon as I get your results, i'll resolve the first round of grappling. Then you can decide what to do.

So, BAB is Basic Attack Bonus, right? So that's my melée bonus, right? I don't have any other relevant attack bonuses listed on my sheet so I presume that's right (the only other attack bonus I have listed is my ranged bonus, and it's obviously not that...unless BAB stands for something else that I didn't know about...). So a total of +8 to the roll (5 for the attack bonus and 3 for the Str mod). So the total iiiiis...16 (8+8).

Yeah, BAB is base attack bonus. Melee bonus is the total (BAB + STR) as opposed to Ranged bonus, which is BAB + DEX. BAB is real important and one of the fundemental concepts cuz you use it for a lot of stuff, attacks, grappling, opposed checks ect.

Urrffrah bounds quickly out of the bushes and leaps at the lizar, Growlgra right alongside her. The unsuspecting reptile is flattened under the weight of the wolf-barghest, but quickly rolls out from under her grasping jaws and stands up. But not before Urrfrah gets a good hold on one of its arms with her mouth, managing to keep the lizar from bolting out of her reach. The wounded being struggles with her, and she has trouble hanging on, but the wound has taken a toll on its strength. The barghest is surprised just how strong this lizar is, even though it looks like it has had poor hunting for many light-times. She has the feeling that if it hadnt been near-prey for something else and leaking redwater, she wouldnt be holding onto its forepaw-limb now. Stil gripping the limb, she rushes into the lizar, knocking it flat on its back. The lizar finds itself with the barghest sitting firmly on its chest, and Urrfrah's strong jaws reaching for its neck.

It hisses in pain from the weight of the barghest on its wounded chest. A scaled arm flies up and almost punches Urrffrah in the head, but she twists away. The lizar's other hand grabs the barghest's throat and tries to shove the heavy wolf off, but Urrfrah snaps at the offending limb and the lizar hisses in surprise and pulls his hand back. Growlgra dances around the wrestling combatants, waiting for an oppertunity to help Urrffrah pin the struggling lizar. When he sees a moment, he leaps in and pins the kicking scaled legs by sitting on them.

"What do the packmates do now?" the bika yells to the barghest as he grimly hangs on to the twisting legs.

Alright, so you managed to just barely start the grapple. (The lizar rolled a 15 on the opposed check)

Just to speed things along, I'm going to say that you pinned the lizar (pinning means the pinned being is held immoble for one round, so the lizar cant do anything but struggle ineffectively this round until his next turn. You and Growlgra get to act first next round as well.). Normally this would require another opposed grapple roll, but this is PBP, so Im just going to say it worked.

For info on the kind of stuff you can do and info on grapples, read this:http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/specialAttacks.htm and scroll down to "g". Theres a list of the kind of actions you can take, and how grapples work ect. Its 2 rolls to start a grapple, a touch attack and an opposed grapple check where both parties roll BAB + STR + grapple size mod. Then if the person initiating the grapple wins, you are grappling, and next round can try and do a bunch of stuff to each other(both parties) by making opposed grapple checks, like attacking with a light/natural weapon, pinning, dragging someone ect. If the person initiating the grapple loses, the target escapes. I *really* suggest you read that section. Theres way more to it than that, and Im not gonna write it all down.

Err, so if I understand it right, the roll I made first was already the right one? Because I just have a "Melée bonus" so I added that to the roll - if that's already BAB + Str mod then I didn't need to make the second roll and in fact did the second roll wrong 'cause then I was basically adding the Str mod twice without realising it (since my Melée Bonus is just that - the bonus I add to a d20 when I attack someone in melée). So basically a Grapple check is the same as a normal melée attack, yes? And from reading on, it looks like I just have to make two attack rolls to grapple someone. So I'll just have to remember that :).
Btw, since we're presumably now in combat, shouldn't we be rolling Initiative around now?
And lol to Growlgra asking Urrffrah what they should do when she's in her least linguistic form and pinning someone down :D.

Urrffrah gives a loud, warning snarl and presses her weight down further, hoping to stop the lizar struggling altogether. She glares into the creature's eyes, hoping to communicate that trying to stop her is really not a good idea. She could have killed this scrawny creature already - it might be stronger than she'd thought, but one snap will be all it takes to remove a leg. Maybe there'll still be a chance that she can get a meal out of this, or maybe Sssil will want to kill and eat it himself, since it injured his packmate. Or maybe he'll let Thessan do that, since it was Thessan who was injured, and he can use this creature's strength to add to his own and recover faster.

Attempting to Intimidate the skinny bastard into giving up = 12 (8+4). Dammit, it almost stopped on 20 but then rolled over once more :P. I expect I'll put some more points into Intimidate when I level up, but I'd given the getting-around skills priority. Still, maybe this guy gets a penalty to resist because he's already injured and pinned and stuff :D.

Yeah, since you are medium sized its the same. When you get to Large size it wont be, though. Its BAB+STR+Grapple size mod, which ISNT the same as the size mod for attacking. But for now its the same cuz Medium sized beings happen to be 0 on both to make it easier cuz most PCs are medium. So if it helps you to remember it as a melee roll, go for it. Just keep in mind that it wont be that once you hit Large sized as you go up in levels.

And whatever, you added 3. I'm not super concerned and dont really wanna have both of us rewrite it. These kind of things happen in a system that someone isnt familiar with, especially over the net cuz typing isnt as good as showing. And I know I know the system so well that I'm not exactky the best teacher, so dont sweat it.

You got a bonus cuz he was injured and unaware. There! Problem solved!

More later.

Lol yay :). And I didn't know I increase in size when I level up a bit - cool :D. I presume that's when I become a Greater Barghest (don't know when that is as I haven't looked ahead yet - I'll wait till I get there so I can go "I can do this now? Oh that's fucking EPIC! :D"). Wooo, I'll get to take up four squares on the combat grid .
Oh, and I was gonna edit my post as I thought of something while I was eating my lunch just now, but I'll add it here as you've posted in the interim - just a minor OOC note that Urrffrah's eyes will be glowing pretty bright right now in anticipation of a kill, even though she has no plans to do so right now. She's still sitting on top of the prey she was just stalking, so she instinctively feels excited when such a thing happens :). I also figure that Urrffrah herself will have no knowledge of the fact her eyes glow when she's excited, since she'll never have been staring at her reflection when it happened and won't have been in conversation with anyone who'll have decided to point it out.

Poo. I just double checked. You're gonna stay Medium even as a greater barghest.

Which is actually a good thing for you since you hate all the adding and subtracting. And large creatures get a lot of weird mods. The game was designed so if you are Medium, you have to add less mods cuz most PCs are medium, so it makes it easier on the players. But if you are any other side but Medium, you start getting penalties or bonuses to nearly everything. Like Large things have a penalty to sneaky-type skills, but a + to attack and damage, and an even greater + to overrun grapple attacks, just to think of an example.

Also, its not really that big of a deal for you cuz youre a wolf-thing, but technically non magical armor/worn itemsl should not fit someone who isnt Medium unless the armor is built for that size(magic automatically resizes). I generally ignore that cuz itd be a pain in the ass, and then it gets to the point where its like "well a dwarf is Medium, but he's built totally different than a human, os that dwarven plate shouldnt ft the hman" and then it gets just stupid. I usually just say "the armor fits you uncomfortably so you get a -1/AC -1 max dex if a creature is wearing non magical armor built for a different size, and if its ridiculous, like a Huge creature trying to wear Small armor, then I'd say no way.

Like Growlgra is Small so his melee attack roll is BAB+STR+1 (for size), but if he wasnt a bika he could only move 20ft a round (bika's racial benefit is an extra 10ft of movement & +2 climb as long as long as they are barefoot or wearing "bika shoes")

The lizar stops struggling when it realizes it has a glowing-eyed demon-dog sitting on it. "Ii'sssa kaossii?" it asks. "Saa-daasshillas nath issaahss."

Growlgra stands up off of the pinned lizar's legs not that the creature isnt struggling. "What does the packless one speak of? This one does not understand its speaking." he says to Urrffrah.

"Youuu, ssspeakkk hhhsssuumann-ttradssse? Yesss? Hhhssuman-trradssee, ssspeakking, ghhhssood." the lizar says in heavily accented common when he hears Growlgra's voice.

"Hhhsssave hhhsssumaannssss inn cchsssamp. Ghhssood, ssspeak hhhssuman. Ssss." He looks up at Growlgra "Ssss, youu call off youu beasssst. I not hhhhssurrt youu."

Growlgra glances at Urrffrah. "That one speaks like the barghest is this one's forever-cub-packmate."

THe lizar looks at the two blankly. It appears his knowledhe of Common is not such that he can understand Growlgra's accent and strange way of speaking very well.

"Whhhssat youu whhhssant?" the lizar says. "I nott hhhsssurt youu. Whhhsssy youu tellsss youu beassst tto jump onn mee ssss?"

Growlgra looks at Urrffrah, motioning towards the lizar as if to say "your call".

Well, we're already considering me Medium when in goblin form (when normal goblins are Small), so considering me to be still Medium when a Greater Barghest should be no different, mechanically...so long as I still get to describe myself as scarily huge (in comparison to, say, a normal wolf) once I get that far :D.

Urrffrah doesn't ease up off the creature as it starts talking, just in case it decides that attempting to attack or run away is a good idea. She looks blankly between the creature and Growlgra as they start conversing. She can more or less understand Growlgra's words when he speaks to her, but has absolutely no idea what the lizar is saying because even though faint snatches sound almost like words, with all the hissing and strange ways of pronouncing things she can't understand any of the creature's meaning.
She has an idea, and glances around to see if there are any long-green-tangly-things nearby.

So, still sitting on the lizar in case he thinks he wants to try and run away again - I don't have Sense Motive or I'd've used that to see if I could tell whether he was just pretending to give in or not. Looking around from where I am to see if there are any vines nearby. If so, I'll look at Growlgra and gesture with my eyes toward the vines and then the lizar - "Tie him up". In case you need it, here is a Spot for seeing if I can, well, spot any vines from where I am...17 (10+7). If was in any form other than my wolf form I'd have tried to communicate with Growlgra verbally, but I can't do much of that in wolf form 'cause it'd just be growling noises, even more so if I spoke in Infernal since the amulet thingy ran out ages ago (still need to give that back to Sssil but forgot before I went legging off after, I hope, this guy). That's a point, I haven't sniffed him yet to see if he smells of the tainted smell I picked up before. I'll wait till we get him restrained by other means than me sitting on him, first.
Btw, I sent you an e-mail and a PM the other day (on different subjects) - did you get them okay?

Sense motive its a trained only skill so you can roll a straight Wis if you dont have sense motive. If you want to do that, go ahead.

It is not hard for Urrffrah to find the long-green-plant things, even crouched on top of the lizar. In this water-in-air place they are common, some huge, easily as thick as Urrffrah's forelimb, and some thin like Growlgra's fur. Most around are thin, but she sees some nice thick ones growing off of a nearby tree, one that has its long wood-and-lef parts sticking out close to the ground. The green-things hang down off of the wood things sticking out of the tree and nearly touch the ground. Each one is easily as thick as one of the bika's fore claws and is covered in small dark green leaves.

Growlgra says again "I think the prey thinks Urrffrah is this one's forever-cub-packmate." He then realizes that Urrffrah doesnt seem to be able to understand the lizar's speech.

"It asks this one why I told the barghest to jump on it, and it makes words that it does not wish the hunters harm." Growlgra tells the barghest.

"Yesss, no hhssurrt. I issss wounded. Attakkhed by sssstrange ssssccarred warrriorr. Ssss. Ssssaw warriorrr attakking trraderr, hhsss. Trrried hhhsselp ttrraderr, warrriorr attakkhss I. Hhhssurt, trrying ghhet bak tto cchhamp." the lizar gurgles under Urrfrah's feet.

"The prey says it has taken a wound. It was attacked by a scarred warrior. The warrior was preying on a trader, and the prey tried to help the trader and the warrior hurt it. It is trying to get back to its pack." the bika translates for Urrffrah's benefit.

Wis check in place of Sense Motive = 9 (7+2). Bleh, lol. I'll wait for the results since Urrffrah will decide what to do bsed on that.

Urrffrah listens to and watches the lizar carefully trying to detect any sign of trickery or the fact that it wanted to make the two hunters its prey. But the alien-ness of the reptillian being confuses her and she gets no indication one way or the other in the lizar's body, noises and scents.
