well, you need to control 4 people not just 1 and you use the mouse in the window to interact with the environment.. beyond that.. the interface is similar.. A good many first person games with inventories (back packs) and skill sets.. maybe not eating and sleeping.. or a unique spell casting system.. but those are game elements more than how you play the game.. I know all those are little details that are apreciated and give DM it's charm.. but you could take any FPS engine and make DM from it... just with some patience.. I've often wondered on it with Quake 3 or the doom 3 engine.. it's already set to do these things if you only just sit and use their "quake C" scripting language to make the needed adjustments.

Mannit, you guys talk lots here while I'm sleeping!

Half-life, especially Half-Life 2, is/are (what would be the word now because I'm talking about HL1 (is) but added HL2 (are)) so realistic. In HL2, in some parts, it's like your in a movie.

Paul H: I am taking more time to post. Isn't that what Cowsmanaut said?

I ran HL 1 on my 98 computer and XP. I think that was when we had the XP.
Ameena wrote:though Doom 2 is fun with the cheats 'cause you can hide in the walls and get the mobs to kill each other which is pretty funny .
That must be funny. I sometimes want to find a cheat for Unreal Tournament to hide in walls...then I can hide right by the flag and I don't think they'll win...just to have fun, I've already passed that level.(You might need to play Unreal Tournament to understand this...because of gameplay).
Paul H wrote:I agree as well with Gambit: in fact this post sort of mirrors the one on Unlimited saves
Which one are you talking about? And what do you mean by one? Post? Topic? You're confusing the poor Fairy!

The thread on unlimited saved

Sorry, I don't remember that. I checked view my posts, and I am not in it obviously. What is the exact web adress?

Go into the 'news and discussions' forum and click on the thread from there, it's one of the top ones

Okay. Sounded like a really old one.

Erm...I didn't find it, strange.

There's a post discussing whether people prefer unlimited saves or a restricted number in games. Paul was saying this thread is similar to that one.

Oh yeah, I can see that(remembering that there is a kinda in there).

Don't you mean 'kind of'?

I sometimes wonder what I mean, or am saying at all. Do you know what I mean? I don't really remember.

Please keep to the subject of the thread. Thank you.

I took one look at the thread and gave up finding a split point...

by Gambit37
No, it's fine to keep as is, it's just I've discovered that unless I say something, the thread will go very wayward before long. That is part of the job of a moderator and I reserve the right to exercise it!

There are a ton of 'general' chat threads -- I don't like it when more considered subjects get highjacked with nonsense (especially mine!)

:P

Lol, actually I think splitting keeps the fun OT that people are enjoying and let it go off while making sure the original stays uncluttered...just means you have weird splits around. In this case, it's the trouble that the people OTing are also making nods to the original too to keep in on topic...

I think I just OT'd ...bugger it, I'm going to split this strand!

Weird, I missed this whole bit on games, I thought the OTness was just about where to find the savegame thread!

by beowuuf
Yeah, see, that's why I at first glance thought it was so difficult, I got it into my head from skimming that the film/game comments blended too much...but really just ADDF kept to the topic and mentioned films and games...everyone else went off on one

Sadly, now this whole section is still OT from the subject of 'games' : )

In fact, it looks like I was the one who went OT in the first place....

I don't want to be harsh, but it's entirely your fault, Gambit.
You just have the knack to completely miss the point of your topics. It appears that you never can predict what the thread will really be about and you just coin a random title with random comments that have nothing to do with the content discussed later by the other users.
We gave you moderator powers to fix your failures and put a correct title afterwards, once your error is blatant. But you seem completely confused about the role of a moderator.

Brilliant! I knew it had to be something simple, but for the life of me, I couldn't figure it out...

by beowuuf
I always thought the point of titles was to act as a cryptic crossword clue as to what the topic will eventually be about

DM as a film... Dangermouse as a film... animated cartoon feature.... wait, the the feature of an animated cartoon is having frames... many frames per second... and what more than anything else cares about the frames per second and having many of them - GAMES! Compuer games! Yes, I solved it!

See, I should have spotted it tuning into a games discussion a mile off *snakes head* can't beleive it was allowed to babble about something as stupid as DM as a film for two pages before it got corrected by ADDF and Gambit..man, now I feel embarrassed

Afternoon dungeoneers,

ADDF for moderator!

A 'good' game definatley appears to be linked to your age. If I showed DM to a 12 year old kid who was busy blasting aliens away on his brand new Sega MasterDriveEntertainmentCubeBoxStation, I am sure he wouldn't be too impressed. The younger generation are spoiled and have little patience. But thats what my Dad says to me, and my Grandad to him. Still I was lucky to grow up through the evolution of the games system and am still not enamoured by the latest releases.

Good Point.

Now we're going to start writing stuff about films and games...which would fit into both topics...AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!

Mr.H, I dissagree.. I've shown it to a 14 year old about 5 years ago.. and he got right into it.. couldn't wait to play CSB.. ofcourse he only had a pentium 90 as his home computer..

Point is, he loved the game.. what about our resident Tox?? when did you first play DM again?

it's one of those games that has a certain appeal.. it could be spiffed up with new graphics.. and smoother movement.. but that's just the outer coating.

Well we have a few cases to the contrary. How about show it to an 8 year old? I was 8 or 9 when I 1st played DM.

When it came out in erm when was it? '87? Sorry I still haven't memorised the year...shocking isn't it? :O Well I was born in '84 so whenever we got it, I was like...erm...four or something...

the thing is the childs expectations. If the child only likes cute little Kirby and cartoon flowers.. you're not going to get their attention..

I mean, DM is a very cartoony game.. it's limited colours but if you look at kids books or cartoons.. it's again limited colours.. flat looking drawings.. there is little difference. I think there can be much more acceptance depending on their expectations..

I think it's as we get older we get greater expectations and get ideas about what should be expected of us. Teens who want X-brand clothes and must play X-game for their friends to accept them and listen to X-music.. etc.

I think kids are more likley to be accepting..
