what would be best is if some nice gfx artist could 'touch up' the Amiga graphics a little with some more colours
Its a thin line between improving the graphics and loosing the 'character' of the originals though. Its the same with Doom, lots of people have tried making 3D models for it but imo non seem to capture the original 'look' properly so I never end up using them!

Then why don't you do it?

oops.. i think i conclude this by myself because of one thing : the mouse hand bitmap

Ahh right - the early versions of RTC only had the blue hand of the ST!
Now it's configurable in the config.txt file as to whether you want the ST, Amiga or PC one (and can be replaced completely with something entirely different in a dungeon.txt / RTC file). Not sure why the default setting is the Amiga one now though...

Well, no matter the personal preference - to have both available for dungeon designers would imho absolutely be worth the increase in file size.

RTC download size has shot up to 12Mb from it's humble 3-4Mb file size of a few versions ago

I think it's because RTC gives you the full Dungeon Master experience, without any of the pathetic limitations the ST version had.
(Monster footsteps, full-color bitmaps when you pick up an object, etc.)

FYI - that breaks down as about:
- 0.3MB RTC Game Exe
- 0.6MB RTC Editor Exe
- 0.1MB Object definitions
- 1.0MB Default dungeons
- 1.0MB Audio
- 1.0MB All DM/CSB Graphics put together
- 8.0MB Just the DMII Graphics...
Which explains the increase in recent versions!

I really prefer the 16 color graphics over the 256 color ones, but I've only played the Sega CD version before playing it again via RTC. As someone else said, I feel the older style graphics keep it more in feel with the original DM. I've been ripping the bitmaps for the monsters from my disc with DM2GDED and replacing the ones from PC DM2. Old-style Dragoth just looks so much more menacing than the cartoony one.

Hey cool! So you have created a version of the DM2 dungeon that features the old grafics? Is it possible to make that available in a way that will allow to choose between DM2-256 and DM2-16 upon starting RTC?

I only replaced the creature graphics for now. I don't really notice much of a difference, if any, between the SCD wall and item graphics and the current RTC ones. If you would like I can zip up the new graphics into a file for you along with my DM2.txt file that points to the new bitmaps.

Yes, I would like that very much. Please email it to me, using my Nick here at gmail.com.
I'd even more like it to be part of the next default RTC version released, but that'd be George's decision.

It pains me to vote for that Commodore thing, but the graphics are indeed classier. Not in all cases mind - the merchants (for example) are better for the PC, though still a little too cartoony.

I do, and i find DM2 PC graphics better... thought compernig dm/csb vs EotB 1/2/3, dark and gloomy DM style wins.
And i liked halfsteps, but it took a while to get used to them.

Has any progress been done with the amiga version ?
(thanks to THOM) I've got pack of the amiga bitmaps.
The problem is that their names are simple numbers.
I sorted them in several subdirectories that should ease the job.
But changing the graphics for all the bmps alone is a huge work.
Particularly since the animations are made of a pics that have to be implemented one by one.
If anyone wants to start a collective work on that version, the graphic pack is ready to go...
