good job, you have attention to detail for sure.
not to ridicule this fair amount of work you have done:
Maybe you want to add back in some text just for fun& typography exercise?
Either the exact same Typo, to see where it got placed to in the first place...
I think the image needs sth. in addition, if there is no text, sth is missing.
I also think the art was constructed to work as a cover, invisible lines of weapons
pointing to points of interest and the eyes being fairly accurately half way down the format´s size.
to work as a poster, try to add sth... maybe instead of FF logo, insert the hours you spent to do it..
Sometimes making fun of sth./a task gives you creative impetus and sparks new ideas and gives you
some core structure to lift up from...and makes it unique and not a simple copy -as you said you feel like doing sometimes..
like the this is not funny things with lord chaos..add some incredible stuff and it turns into sth. else.
the skeleton king could say; one big mac with sweet sour sauce or you can buy the axe but not the crown.. like in comics?
or imagine the baddie saying: I´m in a bad mood and one of the fishes adding :yes he is !
well, maybe forget all about it just my musings right now.. again good stuff, you surely have the skills

Re: Photoshop Cleanups of Fighting Fantasy covers
Ah, I should probably clarify: I just do these "cleanups" to practice my PhotoShop touch-up skills.
The other creative stuff you described is great and I do that in my *own* projects

Re: Photoshop Cleanups of Fighting Fantasy covers
Perhaps I should clean these ones up too -- I think the cover of the box would be easier than the puzzles themselves!

If you want a clean version of Forest of Doom, there's a good one here:

One of the reasons I like doing these cleanups is to simply see the original artwork without all the branding. There's some fantastic art on the FF covers that I don't think anyone's seen clearly "unbranded". And it's got even worse with the new Wizard versions, as the image has practically vanished and the cover is almost entirely now branding!

So by doing these cleanups, I'm returning the artwork to its natural form to be fully enjoyed as it always should have been
By the way, the next ones I do will most likely be these, as I recently reacquired a set and can scan in better quality to work from.

EDIT: Sadly just discovered that the cover artist for Cretan Chronicles, Michael Embden, passed away last year
