Have I posted a few words about myself yet? I hope I am not repeating myself, but anyway, here goes:

ASL: 28 male from Czech republic (that's Europe in case someone doesn't know :P)

I've been somewhat obsessed with computers ever since I was young and the result is occupation as some kind of IT support, which ultimately will become my doom, cause lusers are dumb as a brick and I will either die from a stroke or in prison for a nasty murder... To each his own :P

I didn't have many possibilities to get behind a screen - at school sometimes, playing Commander Keen and similar things (and UFO later on!!!) like mad.
Not sure when I learned about the existence of DM, but I do know exactly when I got lost!! I was about 14 or so when I was borrowed this 100kg 386/20 crap with B/W monitor and SoundBlaster card (!) which I had to install (whoa). I plugged a single speaker from our stereo into the card (didn't know jack about cabling :P) and started playing...
That was the first time ever I managed to get so sucked into a game I played until morning. At some point I thought wtf, something's wrong - looked up and it was already light ouside :D DM along with Aliens vs Predator 2 is the only game which I almost got heart attack from - having bunch of mobs jump on you from around a corner is definitely an experience.
I've been playing DM on and off since then :)
And I love RPGs in general - when my father bought a PC, I took all my money and bought Elder Scrolls: Arena and that was it. I immediately knew I will be lost for the rest of my life. And I am!
The funny thing is that the more I upgrade my PC the older games I play. Ever since I got this Core2Duo with Radeon 4870, I've been playing DM and old stuff in DOSBox like maniac :D

Aside from gaming I am into some weird self-destructing activities such as gym stuff, boxing, biking...

Erm, I guess I should introduce myself here too, just briefly.

My name is Jan, I'm 29 years old, male, rather tall and dark hair'n'eyes. I'm a kind of "scientist" (ehm) and a lecturer / teacher, my specialisation is geography (mostly landspace and things like that). I work at Charles University in Prague, and I live partly in Prague (obviously, 'cause I work there) and partly in the town where I was born, it's a smaller town in the Bohemian-Moravian Highland, and I prefer staying there, because it's calmer, cleaner and I've got there... erm... kind of personal relations, you know... :D I also used to teach at one Prague high school, but abandoned it last year because I had no time. Now I'm considering moving from Prague to České Budějovice (Ceske Budejovice - Budweiser beer, you know) in southern Bohemia, they offered me a job at their university there, I don't know, it's smaller and calmer and cleaner and greener and more pleasant city than Prague, and they have Budweiser beer, and everything, you know, but I've not decided yet. We'll see. :)

Now about playing games. I spent relatively much time playing games at the end of 1980s and in 1990s (mostly on 800 XL and then on 1040 ST, and then 486, curse PC!), but then I somehow found there are more interesting things than games (like beer and the Highland and girls etc., lol), so during last e.g. 10 years I didn't play a lot, only the "oldies but goldies"... well, now it's only DM/CSB and Monkey-Island-like-adventures, and nothing else, like an hour or two per week.

I got a pirate copy of DM in 1988 or 89 or so for ST, lol, it took me ages to finish it 'cause I didn't have the manual and anything, so I was not able to translate the runes on scrolls, so I had to find the spells randomly, etc. Then I got a pirate copy of CSB and I spent like a whole year finishing it, but I did it without any external help, and I'm very proud of it. Then in the year 2001 or 2003 or so I found this forum (I think it looked differently, lol), I was here for a few months, and then I left it because I had no time. Then I came here last year once again (don't know why), I didn't remember my old nickname (and password), so I established a new account. And so I'm here. :D

My hobbies, beside DM/CSB and Monkey Island, are: reading books (I prefer classical novels, Russian, American, British, Czech), music (older bands like Jethro Tull, and jazz, and World music), riding bicycle in the Highland (now it's overcrowded with cyclists, but I remember times just ten years ago, when it was almost empty, I met like three cyclists a day - mostly old women going to a shop or from the church, lol), beer (doh!) and so on.

Other favourite games (beside DM/CSB and MI): old ones - Zork trilogy, Ultima series, Dune 1 and 2, Warlords, SimCity, Civilisation, Fallout 1 and 2 (the newest one on the list, lol), UFO 1 and 2, and many others (can't remember now). Just goldies. But as I said, besides DM and MI I don't play games anymore.

Any questions? :)

Dude do NOT move to ČB, friend of mine lives there and says it sucks there. Money is bad, work is almost impossible to get... Compared to Prague, it's like downgrading from Ford Mustang to scooter :D

end of OT :)

Oh dear god

cant believe I've been playing RTC over and over for several years, and didnt bother to check out the forum thingy.

So here am I, Toumy, 34 years old, from Lyon, France. I've been a computer addict for something like 25 years, starting with a Thompson MO5 (l'Aigle d'or powaaa !), an Atari 800XL (the Goonies !!) then a C64 (Last Ninja anyone ?). Then came the Amiga. And the feud with my Atari ST friends. For some months, I had the upper hand. I mean, Defender of the Crown, enough said :)

And then FTL released Dungon Master. And for one miserable year, I had to suffer the ignominy of seeing my friends talk and chat about the spells, the monsters, the items, of what seemed to be more than just a game: a really unique gaming experience. Finally, a buddy of mine took pity and invited me on a saturday night, and let me play DM on hist 520 ST. And from then on, I was hooked. I remember that I became so addicted that I would come to his house even when he wasnt there, telling his grandma that I had work to do blablabla :D.

Needless to say, I cant tell if there was someone happier in the world than myself when the game was ported to Amiga. And when CSB was released.

I switched to the PC during the early 90s, playing classics of that era such as Wing Commader II, Dune 2, UFO, Ultima 7, Monkey Island 1 and 2, etc. After that I moved to online gaming: Counter Strike, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, then World of Warcraft (ok that is evil I know ^^).

I first heard of RTC 3 or 4 years ago while I was looking at the DM entry on the Underdogs website. That was a really pleasant surprise to say the least. So once in a while, I downloaded it and started playing it. But for some reasons, eventhough I went through DM RTC several times, beating the pulp out of that poor Lord Chaos, I never completed CSB RTC. But hey, better late than never :)

Anyway, Im glad to have found this place. I really consider DM as one of the greatest video game ever released, one of the most innovative, and the most challenging for sure^^. And Im glad to see that many other people from all around the world feel that way. Not to mention all the custom dungeons and stuff !!!

Cheers

Welcome!

CSB is certainly a different proposition, and a challenging one at that - but certainly has much to recommend it as a game and behind the scenes

Welcome, Narjhan!

Heh, I kind of share most of you gaming experience. :D Dune, Wing Commander, UFO, Ultima, Monkey Island, yeah!
Narjhan wrote:I would come to his house even when he wasnt there, telling his grandma that I had work to do blablabla
LOL, I know this, although I know it "from the other side". I sometimes came back home from my school to find a friend of mine playing games on my computer (he was my schoolmate, lol). Once I was ill, lying in a bed, sweating in a high temperature, and he came to our house and said "don't worry, I won't disturb you" and he sat to the computer and started playing Dune II or something, and I was helpless, lying in the bed and watching him. :D

Doh. To be honest, I would have probably acted the same for some games :D

And yeah, it's very nice to meet folks that have basically gone through the same good ole classic games.

Hey Nar, welcome to the forum, our little world of bizarre filth and peculiar insanity and of course great big uber huge love of DM, anything vaguely connected to it, and about a zillion other games released from the 80s onwards :D.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I'm gonna have a look at some older threads so I hope you'll not be mad at me for ressurecting some of them :)

We don't mind old threads being resurrected as long as the additions are worthwhile. If you just add "me too!" or something, you might incur the wrath of the forum governators... ;-)

Hello and welcome Guigui! Another Frenchman, I fear they are slowly taking over... either that, or it's part of a big evil Conflux 4 plot.

And I've always thought the Germans were the biggest friends of the French people... at least in Alsace.

My God, I almost cried when I found all these links and pictures to Dungeon Master...it has been so long, but I loved it so much!!!

I don't know what made me think of it again, but seeing the box art and the in-game graphics brought it all back. I still remember the day I completed it, it was in 1989...I got CSB for a birthday (probably my 11th) but was never able to finish it, I always got lost and confused.

My name is Enda, I am from Ireland, 30 years old (btw Enda is a boy's name here, when I lived in the UK that caused a lot of confusion!). My favourite characters were Gothmog and Alex (and Syra for different reasons).

I will have to try them both again of course...what version do people recommend as the most "classical" and true to the original ST?

Since then I have played a number of games, but my early experience with DM really shaped my playing experience. Legend (the Mindscape game), Ishar, Gods and Speedball 2 were my favourites on the ST; Baldur's Gate series, Neverwinter Nights Series and X-2 my favourites on the PC.

Great to see so many people still appreciate DM!
