Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Actually, since money has snuck in, and OB is away until Sunday, I won't do a stealth update based on his post, I will just leave everyone to give reactions and move us on Sunday night as planned.
Not to spoil anything, but imminent violence isn't going to enure, so Ameena and Haynuus, feel free to post any non-reaction to Westian's outburst posts you want...
Edit: Lol, and Ian snuck in too!

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
OOC - Ooh, I knew we'd be moving on soon, but didn't know we'd be launched into it without even starting, if you know what I mean
. Oh well, I'll just allow for that in this post...
BIC - As they begin to move on down one of the tunnels, Ameena trots along on all-fours so as to keep up. This means, therefore, that her head is now much closer to the ground and therefore makes seeing the faces of those around her almost impossible if she wants to keep track of where she's going. She also takes care to ensure that no-one behind steps on her tail.
She listens to Helm's answers and further questions, but also keeps a vague track of what the others are talking about. She is about to answer Helm's last questions when she can tell from the sudden shift in the group's atmosphere that their attentin, Helm's included, has been diverted. It seems that the focus of their attention is now Westian, who has been talking to the rather unpleasant Drommal about people called High Lords. Ameena has heard of them, somewhat. She knows that they are very powerful beings who...do things. Make things? Destroy things? Maybe both. She also recalls that some people hold these beings in very high regard and can take great offence if any word is spoken against them, offence enough to react with physical violence. As usual, she doesn't much understand such behaviour.
Ameena does recognise the name "Larethian" as Westian speaks it, remembering that he's spoken the name a few times since they've been here. Aside from that, however, she doesn't really know anything else.
She wants to continue the conversation with Helm but isn't sure he's paying attention to her right now. She decides to wait. She also wants to know where they're going, but doesn't much want to sound as though she's speaking to Drommal, who clearly considers himself the leader here. Anyway, she generally prefers to look at people when she's talking to them, since it gives the social advantage of seeing their facial expressions, but in their current situation that is impossible. She continues to trot along on the floor, her shoulders not even at knee height on the humans.

Re: DM D&D game offhoot: Aurek's Adventure
As Aurek took the armour of the guard, he spotted an odd set of tattoos. They were small, yet formed a perfect triangle around the man's heart whereupon a fourth tattoo was transcribed. There were three runes around the edges, which Aurek recognised from his training, even though he had never fully mastered them. They were SAR on the top, KU to the bottom left, and EW on the bottom right. The rune over the man's heart was one he didn't recognise as well....at was a circle with a line coming from it...
This is the PAL rune of power. I do not think, at Aurek's rank, he would have intently studied the power runes enough to know it as it has now other context Roll me a knowledge (religeon) check to prove me wrong.
Farel was satisfied that the work of binding the guard had been done well (roll me a dexterity check with a +2 bonus as Farel has successfully aided you) and was ready to move on. He offered his own backpack space for the excess scrolls, sadly only ten in number due to their wooden mountings. Luckily there was enough space for normal plain parchment (as ,many sheets as needed) to be slipped in around the scrolls. Farel could not help decipher the scribed scrolls and therefore help pick the most important.
Pick one single aspect you would go with - anything else in elemental language? Anything with pictures relating to the cells? Anything with place names you recognise? If you choose to go random, then I will roll should the opportunity occur for a relevenant scroll to potentially be present.
While all the information was being gathered, Aurek could swear he heard something. Stopping, Farel eyed him and said 'You hear something too? I had thought it was us... yet it is not, is it?"
Indeed, there seemed to be some subtle movement of metal closeby. There could well be another guard observing them. Farel gave Aurek a look, and let his hand drift to his own sheathed dagger. Slowly he moved towards the torch, placed back into the sconce temporarily.
Update done for the weekend (well, until Sunday night). So, do you charge in blindly, to see if something is in the shadows clanking, or do you continue about your business. Farel seems convinced if you think something is also there, ready to go.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
There is the continuation of the uncomfortable silence. Drommal turns are regards Thinpas, who has already turned to look at the captain. There is the barest tilt of the head downwards from the Sergeant, and Thinpas turns to regard Westian again.
Drommal turns back to Westian. "That is good know," he says with some odd tone of humour, and Falkor can hear and even see the lack of tension now in Drommal. Falkor realises the balance has been broken in Drommal's demeanour. However, despite the humour in the man's words, Falkor cannot think this is anything but a bad thing. Falkor at least takes the opportunity to look at the faces of the armour. Other than they look lifelike, he cannot see anything more about them.
That is not to say there is nothing more to know about the armour, but sadly the quick chance you took didn't pay off. You can certainly try a take 20 check if you like, but it might impede tracking your route, and it might draw whichever soldier you look to's ire.
Ominously, the Captain declines to answer the question on his own allegience, although was there a shake in the man's form that might denote a silent laugh at the question? "We carry flasks with healing draughts as standard, so do not worry over our precious lives, priest of Larethian."
Falkor's comment drew Drommal's gaze, and behind his helm it was difficult to tell expressions. However, at least his tone to Falkor was not mocking. "As you say," he said, and waved his soldiers and the party in the correct direction.
It was only as the group moved around the bend of the passageways and carried on, and only as Thinpas turned his gaze not to Westian fully instead of getting in Haynuus's way, that Haynuus realised perhaps why the Sergeant had been such a pain recently.
Arbrut 'accidentally' barged Haynuus at they turned in the tighter confined of the tunnel, his foot obviously coming out to trip the half-orc. However, the attempt at a trip was clumsy, and more importantly Haynuus's reflexes (governed by a brain that was slow to react to gravity) made sure he did not fall. "Watch yourself," said Arbrut to the half-orc.
"Are you ok?" asked the thief, coming forward quickly to and being rebuked by a shove from Arbrut. The thief huddeled into himself at the implied threat and Arbrut shook his head.
Captain Drommal perhaps gave Arbrut a look, but otherwise drove the group onwards.
Ameena, for your musings you can roll a knowledge (local) to see if your general chit-chats ever uncovered more knowledge about high lords, and Larethian in specific. Can you also roll me a perception check, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease.
Anyone else who is looking towards Helm can roll the same roll, but I assume everyone else might be concerned with other things
Anyway, time for breakfast!

Her eyes being on the level they are, Ameena sees Arbrut's obvious attempt to trip up Haynuus. Although still somewhat unsure about Thinpas, she's certain that neither Arbrut nor Drommal are the types she's likely to ever get along with. She would prefer to be away from them as soon as possible. She still wants to know where they're going, and why, but continues to avoid asking such a question because she's quite sure that Drommal will think she's asking him, and take the opportunity to be rude to her some more.
She glances in Helm's direction (or rather, in the direction of his legs, that being all she can see of him at the moment), and wonders if she should attempt to continue their conversation. He, at least, doesn't seem to mind being spoken to, and the fact that she remembers him from before makes her even more keen to get to know him further.
OOC - Best not try and any anything more till I get the results of the two rolls you've asked for. So without further ado, I give you...pff, 6 for Knowledge (Local), and 17 for Perception.

Falkor was sure there was more to the faces on the shields, the commotion caused by Haynuus almost falling was enough for him to take another check on the shields - was there anything there or was he flogging a dead horse..???
OOC: I'll take that 20 check on the shield, and again - focus is on the captain’s shield.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Haynuus saw the obvious lunge of Arbrut's leg and after avoiding it then decided to make it seem that he did in fact stumble a little. Partially satisfying the solidier's intention.
"Are you ok?" asked the thief, which surprised Haynuus. So he put an arm around the thief's shoulder to steady himself and said "ugh, fine thanks. I guess I'm not used to the uneven welcome of the cold stone floor" And with that attempted to slip his concealed dagger into Helm's hands (1d20=15). Friend or foe, it just wasn't fair that Helm's hands were tied if monsters appeared around the corner. He suspected that maybe the thief already had a way out of his bonds, but another guarantee was always welcome.

Re: DM D&D game offhoot: Aurek's Adventure
Runes gained: EW, KU, SAR & possibly PAL (knowledge religion 1d20 = 18)
For Farel (dexterity 1d20 = 15)
Aurek and Farel tied up the guard, and dragged him to his cell. While doing so, Aurek noticed a tattoo, of which he made a copy of, to refer to later, learning multiple spell-casting runes in the process.
As Aurek searched through the piles of scrolls, deciding on his select 10: firstly, he picked the elemental scroll, followed by any scrolls that contained similar (elements or runes), and, if space allowed, any random picks.
Then, when both Farel and Aurek heard a noise, Aurek spoke "I think we should check that out.", and gathered together anything they were taking with them... then, they ventured toward the sound.

OOC - Was PM'd the result... Got a rofl response.
Haynuus was pleased that his little ruse didn't bring any attention from the soldiers, as it was a truly dangerous action to perform when surrounded. What surprised Haynuus was what he was handed BACK by Helm.
He understood that Drommal often referred to Helm as a thief, but he had assumed that it was as much a derogatory term. What he now held confirmed that Helm was not only a thief, but a master one. With horror Haynuus saw cusped in his hands was an empty flask. It would be impossible to conceal for long and worse still this wasn't a normal smokey glass/scratched/cracked flask but it was in cobol blue venetian glass with swirls of ruby red and a golden inscription that he couldn't quite make out[+]. Should the owner discover his misappropriated merchandise his reaction would be... Well... Vitriolic!
Haynuus bordered on panic and knew that he held a hot potato that could end his brief existence there and now. If it's owner found out who had stolen the flask murder would ensue. He decided upon himself that he would attempt to toss the flask into the back of Westian's rucksack (1d10=10) in a quiet stretch of their march. Haynuus reasoned in his mind that it was exactly what the half-elf wanted earlier, and he's not that bad a half-orc really.

Re: DM D&D game offhoot: Aurek's Adventure
Yup, that was a good religeon check. Consider the PAL rune recognised. Sadly, you don't actively know how to invoke these yet. However, a teach such as Westian or Falkor can probably grant you the knowledge to use them, especially since you'll be giving them runes they currently don't recall in returns
Good religeon roll, so I'll let you guess the significance of the tattoo. It cannot be a spell with two alignment runes. It seems to be as if a glyph of some kind.SAR at the top for the demon, sword for the fighter and ew for the body/beast. If you had to guess, you would think it was some form of petition to grant strength from the demon world, or the moon. PAL is certainly drawing power from the world to a point - attack.
Since the man did not seem possessed of any supernatural strength in his attacks, perhaps it required consitions to activate, or just as likely it could have been a tattoo the man got based on something he'd seen! Just like getting a chinese tatoo in real life because you like the shape, even if you don't know what it translates as
The bondings seemed secure, and Aurek and Farel left the man to come to hopefully when they were far away. Aurek concluded his acquisition of as much knowledge as he could carry away and persuade Farel to pack see the other thread and then the two men were ready to continue onwards.
Farel handed the torch to Aurek, as he needed to look prisoner-like just incase. He moved forwards with his hands crossed infront of himself as if bound, yet he kept his eyes forwards as the two men moved forwards. Farel apparrently could not see anything as they moved onwards into a dull grey stone corridor. It seemed dry enough, and the air was oppressive.
However, both Aurek and Farel could hear a faint clanking of armour. Another guard? Annoyingly enough, the passageways split quite swiftly into two. One branch carried on into the darkness, while another continued leftwards. There was a torch sconce at the T-junction with a lit torch in it.
"Which way should we go? I feel nothing strong either way. Also, should we both take a torch? It might ruin the ruse of me being your prisoner, yet perhaps it is a ruse alreayd broken if a guard has seen us."
I'll try to draw up a map as we go along. Anyway, choices, choices - do you carry on? Do you take the new branch? Do you split the party since you have two torches? Should Farel forget the ruse and just grab a sword and go armed (on this matter he will take your lead)

Re: DM D&D game offhoot: Aurek's Adventure
Aurek says to Farel "Nice idea, I'd had a similar thought myself. However, wrap this lightly around your hands to make it LOOK bound, but you can break free in an instant." and hands Farel some rope, "I can help lightly tie it, if you'd like. I know that such tasks can be difficult" (Farel's disguise 1d20 = 15)
"After we've bound you, you can carry a torch, and still look like a prisoner, just hold it low, and walk all prisoner like (eyes low, head down, etc)."
Once setup for the charade, Aurek says "Let's take this left passage." and started to head out.

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Westian nods as Drommal informs him that all the soldiers carry healing flasks. "I am glad to hear that" he replied, with no obvious sarcasm in his voice. He was struggling to hide his dislike for the men, but luckily that was something he was well used to doing. He managed to bite back any sharper response, escalating the tension would not be a good idea. Especially not before they met this mage.
"Agreed" he said to Falkor's comment. Westian had no idea what Oitus were, but he felt the need to avoid them almost as strongly as Falkor.
The weight in his backpack shifted ever so slightly, but that fact went almost entirely unnoticed by Westian.

OOC - Just read that it was not an empty flask, but there is a small amount of liquid inside it.
Re: DM D&D game offhoot: Aurek's Adventure
For a moment Farel stands up tall and proud. However, then he nods and tries to slouch. "Such deceipt and appearance does not hold well with me, but you are right - we are deep in the belly ofthis mountain. I cannot risk delays to find my charge! My pride and decisions have already showed themselves poorly once."
The two men advanced forward, though they could not hear the sound of armour again. Had they chosen the wrong path? There were a few torch sconces dotted at intervals along the corridor walls, but they were all empty.
Jsut as the two men may well have decided they had gone the wrong way, they saw a strange glow up ahead. It did not appear to be torchlight, it appeared to be lighter - like daylight?
Then there was a strange noise and a clank of metal. That second noise was easily identifiable - armour!
Roll me an intelligence check to work out the strange noise.
Also, you might like to start avoiding reading the main threads for the next few days to keep your own character's perspective...

Sorry, that was one of the things I meant to point out to you!
Ameena was aware something was going on - the odd movements of Haynuus and especailly Helm seemed to familiar to her. And yet she could not spot anything from her vantage point. Helm had tried to say something to her when he was pushed by Arbrut, but it wasn't exactly clear. He was sorry about something to do with Westian?
Meanwhile, Falkor was confident he could work out their way back again - perhaps not swoftly, but at least they could progress back in the right direction if required. Therefore, he was was trying to look at the Captain's armour closer, as there was something compelling about it. The faces seemed very life-like, if smaller versions of a human face. The mage realised that looking at them too long in the flickering torchlight was causing him to imagine they were occasionaly moving - little twitches in the eye or flics in the mouth. Falkor could even swear he could hear screaming from far away.
Roll me a will save please Falkor! Sorry, distracted at work trying to update. Did I mention the captain having a shield? Anyway, was there a specific reason you were looking ot the armour? What did you think you might find? There's something to see, but it is more a background thing for now. I'm letting you go through with it as it might be useful later on the more I think about it, but I don't want to make sure I havenm'#t said something earlier I'm forgetting or that might be mis-leading!
Haynuus managed to get away with his shennanigans, both of them. Arbrut seemed annoyed that the movement had not drawn more irritation. However, the movements of Helm and the party, then Drommal pushign the group onwards again did not allow for any further comment nor action. Apparently, the fact he was lighter by one flask had passed him by!
Westian was prepared, perhaps, for further comments from Drommal, howeveer it was the thief Helm who broke the air as the group started to move again.
"You know the... dwarves... claim that the Larethian of the elves is a corruption, a co-opting of the famous dwarven legend of the High Lord whom plucked out the Great Orc's eye. The dwarves call him Deephold, and I understand only dark dwarves and mixed race elves would dare to worship that aspect openly. Is that whom you actually serve? Like certain dwarves? Deephold? "
Helm seems to be looking to Drommal. Drommal took a moment to look backwards. "How are your bindings?" said the Captain. Helm seemed to freeze. "Imagine that tightness restricting your mouth instead."
With that the Captain continued onwards.
PM coming OB, but neither Westian nor infact Falkor would need a roll to know for a fact that Helm is speaking complete rubbish. The Captain probbaly know that too!
After more twists and turns that Falkor was not regarding and Haynuus had lost track of previously (Ameena, if you are doing nothing else you can attempt a Wisdom check to try and keep some form of track of this part the group came to a straighter part of the corridor. It seemed less worn, and continued to a glowing blue area on the wall.
STEP INSIDE AND TAKE A RIDE declared the wall carving beside it. The corridor disappeared into darkness beyond it.
"We go this way," said Drommal, gesturing his sword to the blue haze of energy burning in the wall. The soldiers prepare to split into two groups, apparently one going ahead of the companions, and one group afterwards.
And so there we go. Are you going to meekly go inside, or is this your chance to do something? If you are mekly to go inside, in which order will you go? If no one offers to go first, then part order seems to be Westian, Falkor, Helm, Haynuus, Ameena.
And if you do go through, is there anything you wish to do at the other side? Roll me any checks, etc. This is either going to be a very interesting or very minor update tomorrow - the choice of which it is, is yours

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Falkor carried along the corridor, the face on the shields seemed to be looking back at him, almost willing him to come to their aid, which of course was silly, the shield was just a shield... but then, a cloak was just a cloak wasn't it! He continued his gaze, was there anything else to the faces, did he recognise them - he wasn't sure and the captain would no doubt think him strange to look any longer - so with this he turned and carried on.
When they reached the Blue Haze Falkor suddenly realised tahat he was no longer sure of the route they had taken, a schoolboy error, which for Falkor seemed to be happening a lot on this journey! Falkor looked at the others and, before anyone could speak, steped into the haze - as he did this he took out his cloak and quickly drapped it over his shoulders...

Re: DM D&D game offhoot: Aurek's Adventure
Aurek turns to Farel and states "I think that it'd be better to be alert and careful here. That said, let's check it out. We should stick with the 'prisoner' plan, just need you to be ready to go." and with that continued ahead, leading Farel as though he were his prisoner, with his sword unsheathed, and combat ready.

Westian looked at Helm as he spoke. He was not sure he could back-track now, but it did seem that the thief was trying to dig him out of the hole he had made for himself. He noted that fact, perhaps this Helm fellow was on their side and could be trusted.
In addition there could have been some hidden meaning to the words. The name he dropped was indeed familiar to Westian, but he was surprised to hear it mentioned. "I know of Deephold, yes. And I do have a fondness for him" he added truthfully, with an inquisitive look at the thief.
As they arrived at the blue haze he turned to the soldiers and said "What is this energy? I am sure we would all like to know what we are walking into." As he spoke he looked around. If the soldiers were splitting up into two groups the party would, briefly, have the advantage of numbers. But what could they do with that? Kill half the soldiers and then run away? Not only did that sound improbable, Westian did not like the idea of just attacking these men out of the blue, however unpleasant they may be.

Ameena continues to trot along as the group proceeds onward. She isn't sure what the others are doing amongst themselves besides talking, but can't really try lifting her head that high to look from her current position - her physical structure doesn't really allow for such a movement since her head, at this angle, sticks pretty much straight out in front of her and can't particularly be angled up or down very well.
When they arrive at a strange glowing blue...thing, Ameena sniffs in its direction, wondering what it is. Since they seem to have stopped moving for now, she raises herself up onto her hind legs and steps a little closer, leaning forward for more of a sniff. She is about to ask what the glowing blue thing is when Westian beats her to it. Falkor, she notices with some surprise, doesn't seem to mind, or perhaps he doesn't care, and putting the strange cloak back on in the process, simply walks into the blue thing...and disappears.
"What...happened?" she asks, slightly nervously and of no-one in particular.

With at least two soldiers having already stepped through, and Falkor so comfortable with the idea of stepping through the haze, Hayuus sighed and readied himself to go in as well offering a more physical backup to the heroic halfling. It was a pity as with the number of soldiers reduced it could have been a possibility to have just walked away from the situation. He really didn't fancy meeting this Gholst dude as Falkor called him a... s.o.b. or something.
"It's magicks" stating the obvious to Ameena. Haynuus had seen a few of these at the citadel and... "they're very useful for shifting a lot of goods fast - only the the one I saw went UP." The goblins told him that if you went in there with someone you occasionally came out with their legs on. He didn't believe them but accidents did happen he was sure of that.
He was about to step through and then paused in front and said to the soldiers "...you've all gone in this thing before of course?... Right?"

Re: DM D&D game offhoot: Aurek's Adventure
As the two made their way forward, there was more sounds of magical discharge then the clanking of armour. There were multiple black-armoured soldiers clustered around a glowing blue area of wall - whch seemed to be the region they were coming through. Some fom of teleportation magic, Aurek recalled from his teachings (I'm carrying forward your intelligence check from last time to this too)
One of the soldiers also had a torch, and so between the two light sources they were quite visible. There seemed to be three soldiers, and the armour of two of them seemed to possess more decoration than Aurek had previously seen - screaming faces embossed on them. For some reason, Aurek felt a chill.
The two other figures were a tall humanoid with an old breastplate, and a cloaked small figure that hid all their features, but seemed the size of a child.
"Halt! Who goes there!" suddenly challenged one of the elaborately armoured soldiers, spinning around as he apparently started to hear the noise of Aurel and Farel's approach. He actually drew his sword at first, seeing Farel, then dropped his guard when he saw Aurek and also appreciated the knight was bound.
"Just what we need, more prisoners!" said the thickset man, turning to the other two soldiers.
"Where are you taking your prisoner, soldier?" asked the other elaborately armoured soldier, stepping forward.
I wonder who those other two non-soldiers could be? Who knows....

Seeing Westian's hesitation and Haynuus stepping forward, Arbrut moved forward. "You two, with me!" he said to two of the soldiers and strode forward through the teleporter. The heavier and bulkier of the two soldiers followed all too eagerly, giving a glance to Haynuus as he asked his question but didn't answer. Sergeant Thinpas stepped forward and stopped the slighter of the two soldiers from going through with a hand on the man's shoulder and a subtle shake of the head. The other sergeant, with a nod to his Captain, went through first.
Falkor's immediate departure and Haynuus following soon after seemed to surprise the Captain. There even seemed a tension in the man until a small dagger came back through the teleporter. The thinner-set soldier picked it up and tucked it in his belt. That man seemed quick and keen. The other soldier that was now guarding the prisoners had barely acknowledged the signal, and something about his body language spoke of disinterest.
"I am sure your god would not allow you to come to harm," mocked Drommal to Westian's question. He then gestured with his sword to Ameena and Westian and then the blue energy. "It is a teleporter, and our journey continues through on the other side. Do not worry, it is quite safe. Both the transfer and the situation beyond."
Drommal seemed impatient. And while Helm was scared of the Captain, he did not seem eager to go through the teleporter.
Meanwhile, on the other side Falkor emerged and was perhaps saddened by something he saw, or did not see. Instead, he saw that the soldiers were visible and standing, scanning what looked like a large square hall, thirty foot by thirty foot. It seemed immaculate and there was a whitish sheen to the walls and floor. Two exits, one left and one right, were visible from the place.
Sergeant Arbrut turned abruptly at the noise, then said, "What?" as he saw the halfling emerge.
"What's wrong Arbrut, did you think you would get some time alone with a troublesome half-orc prisoner?" said Thinpas lightly. Arbrut and his fellow large soldier shared a look, but Arbrut shook his head. It was then that Haynuus also emerged.
Thinpas deliberately stepped closer to the half-orc, though his action was to take a dagger and throw it through the teleporter.
However, it was then that the party heard the clanking of armour.
"You did that too soon," said Arbrut to Thinpas, moving forward. "It better not be those Grak-Graks hunting."
Thre was a bright light in the distance, that resolved itself into two shapes. One was a man in niormal coloured and decorated armour, well gromed although temporarily his demeanour seemed less noble. He was bound, holdling a torch in his hands, and being urged forward by another dark armoured soldier.
"Halt! Who goes there!" challenged Arbrut upon seeing the knight first. He actually drew his sword at first, then dropped his guard when he saw the fellow soldier and also appreciated the other warrior was bound.
"Just what we need, more prisoners!" said the thickset man, turning to the other two.
"Where are you taking your prisoner, soldier?" asked Thinpas, stepping forward.
Haynuus and Falkor could recognise that the armour of the new soldier as basic, with no screaming faces. This new soldier was obviously one of the lowest ranking then.
Meanwhile, the other warrior....
well, that's for you two to run some form of checks about if you like, unless you would like to do anything with this distraction. Meanwhile, OB and Ameena, you obviously have a moment or two if there's anything you want to do on the opposite side of the teleporter, otherwise come on through and join the increasing party.
I think it's a fair bet to say that, one way or another, you have now joined up with the new player. Of course, is that new player Helm, or is the new player the warrior that's just come into view?
Would a cruel DM really throw in a few NPCs / apparent NPCs at the same time so you wouldn't be able to metagame which one to help if something goes badly wrong? O.O
Anyway, their identity will be revealed in the next few days, and their backstory and character info that's been so cleverly hidden will be merged into the story here once that happens.
Woohoo to early updates - time for work!

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Ameena looks on as more people, including Haynuus, now disappear through the...magic blue telly-thing. There appears to be some shuffling amongst the soldiers as to which order they'll go through, and she wonders why that is. She is equally puzzled by the dagger that comes flying back through (and fortunately doesn't hit anyone).
She also wonders what Drommal means when he says it's "safe". Safe from whose point of view? After all, none of these metal-wearers are walking around with swords pointed at them.
Speaking of swords, Ameena notices that Drommal seems keen on waving his about, since he's doing so again because she, Helm, and Westian still remain. She doesn't know whether the half-elf is planning on stepping through but realises that if he does, it'll just be her, the hand-bound Helm, Drommal, and a couple of guards left. She hasn't forgotten Drommal's apparent reference to her as an "abomination" and the way he's spoken to her. If Arbrut seems to be trying to harm Haynuus (albeit subtly), who knows what Drommal might try to do to her if he gets a chance?
"Umm...maybe we'd...better try it." she mutters, craning her neck to look up at Westian and Helm.
Then she steps uncertainly toward the blue thing, not sure what will happen when she touches it. She steps right up to it, and suddenly finds herself in another room. Haynuus and Falkor are there, she sees at once, as are the guards who also went through. What an odd kind of thing, she wonders about the blue telly-magic thing. She wonders how such a thing is built, but then remembers that, of course, it's magic, so it could have come about by any number of means. Maybe the mage-person they're going to see was the one who made it. Maybe that's how they all got down here - maybe someone used magic telly-things to bring them here, and that's why there didn't seem to be a way out of the room they all woke up in. Except the newfound Helm must have got down here somehow. And...who's that?
Ameena notices a new soldier approaching, with another bound prisoner. How many more people are down here? Is that what these soldiers do, then? Tie people's hands together and make them walk around? Well, they haven't bound the hands of herself or her companions. Maybe they'll do that later. Then as soon as they stop pointing swords at people, Ameena can just bite through it. Or maybe they'll have thought of that.
Then she has another thought, and quickly shifts over from her arrival point before someone comes through and risks stepping on her tail. Knowing Drommal, he might well do so delierately anyway.

More prisoners! That was a good thing... And bad. Remembering Haynuus's previous experience as a goblin gang driver whenever the ratio of drivers to goblins dipped to those wretched slaves favour things could get out of hand. He'd had to get aggressive really quickly to control them, even if it was just to stop them fighting among themselves. Now he knew that their soldier 'masters' would be even more uneasy and for good reason - this new guy looked rather wedge shaped and metallic. Thinking fast and taking a good ogle at the new boy (1d20=10) he said:
"It's Derek the Paladinic Crusader!... Isn't it?" The way things were going he really wouldn't be surprised if this new warrior knew Haynuus already and would retort with get a bath half-orc.
If only he had another dagger to hand out.

Aurek spoke back to the soldier, "I am Aurek. I was taking this prisoner to a place nearby that can hold him (referring to the place he and Farel woke up), when I heard I noise, and decided that investigating it was the best course of action." (bluff 1d20 = 20! EPIC!

Westian either did not pick up on Drommal’s mocking of Lord Larethian or he deliberately chose to ignore it. Speaking in the same calm voice he agreed with the captain. “You are right, he has protected me and my friends in the past. And helped me deal successfully with a large and rapidly growing number of enemies.” Looking back to Helm he said “Come on, let’s go.” Following in the footsteps of Falkor, Haynuus and Ameena he walked through the haze into a new large room.
A quick scan showed two new people in the room: one new soldier and one new prisoner. The new arrivals did not make a big impact on the ratio of soldiers to non-soldiers, so no new options presented themselves on that front. He realised that action might eventually be needed, but could see no opening yet. Seven heavily armed soldiers against six of them. Added to that was the fact that two of those people he was tentatively counting as being on their side were tied up and unarmed. So for now he would have to wait.
“A prisoner? Who are you stranger?” He then stepped forward and turned to the newly arrived soldier, knowing that he would not know who the group were. “Soldier. What has this man done to be tied?” His tone was not angry or accusatory, just simply the voice of someone who expected to be answered.
OOC Sense motive check on warrior 9 + 4 = 13
Bluff for talking to the soldier 8 + 5 = 13

Re: DM themed play-by-post D&D game : STORY THREAD
Falkor came through the mist, a little dissapointed with himself - it would have been all too easy and really, he should have known better. He stood upright, removed the cloak and placed it in his backpack. He then turned to the others and moved a couple of steps forward - but yet again, the picture was not right - firstly, this new "prisoner" - he was bound, just like Helm and the guards clearly referred to them as "more prisoners"... but none of them had been bound, nor had they been referred to as prisoners, in fact like it or not they had actually volunteered to accompanie the soldiers - either they were very good at getting results and bluffing their way or Falkor and his companions were far to gullable... but this term changed everything in Falkors mind, "more prisoners", this was the wakeup call he needed... He felt the excitement, a rush of adrenaline, even dark thoughts came to him - battle was imminant - how would he start it though. He turned to the others and quietly spoke, firstly in Orc, secondly in Elf and finally in Halfling - He wasn't sure, but hoped Ameena would understand one of the languages, "We must prepare for battle, I fear we are being led to certain death, Perhaps we rush back through the haze and fight them one at a time as they come through - What do you think?"
Falkor had limited knowledge of battle, or tactics for battle, but he did understand one thing - it was going to get messy! He focused his mind on the powerfull fireball spells of his youth, these would surely be needed if we they had any luck in succeding...
OOC: If the others agree - I would like to turn to the haze, cast a fireball and then jump through... If they wish to hold up, formulate a plan using our "non-common" languages to get a plan hatched, then happy to go along with next updates in sequence.

The soldier spoke back to the Sergeant. "I am Aurek. I was taking this prisoner to a place nearby that can hold him when I heard I noise, and decided that investigating it was the best course of action." There was a pause. "If you don't mind my asking, where are you taking yours?"
Thinpas's confusion was momentarily altered, as two things happened. The first was that Haynuus yelled out "It's Derek the Paladinic Crusader!... Isn't it?" The similarity of names caused Thinpas to look backwards and forwards in an almost comical double-take.
Meanwhile, the newly teleported Westian took advantage of the situatation and the temporary lack of Captain Drommal to move swiftly over to the commotion he saw. Thinpas took a step back as Westian calmly interrogated the new soldier.
The warrior thayt was bound seemed to be surprised by the questions to his captor. Westian noted, out of the corner of his eye, that the warrior seemed strange. He was not cowed by his captor, and did not seem bent over in defeat. The man's eyes sparkled. Was he...waiting? The warrior was surely in his thirties, yet bore his age well, and was ell groomed with a barely ragged moustache - he had surely not been in captivity too long.
Although the man was bound, he seemed to still be able to freely hold a torch! His hands were not crossed as the thief's had been.
Thinpas seemd clearly taken aback by Westian's audacity, and for the moment the soldier was free to answer Westian.
Meanwhile, in the background, with the commotion Westian had caused, Falkor was free to whisper his intentions....
Ok, that seems to suitably get everyone up to date. Given money's ideas about the attack, I've decided to forgo my DM fun of having secrets and asking the new player to identify himself, and to way in on money's question.

Map (current situation):

To LB this map will be weird, as compared to his last map, he and Farel (the knight) entered from the top, not the side. Still, you know what they say... the enemy's gate is down.
This little admission should, of course, trigger you to take a shot in the 'Ameena called it' game, where Ameena pointed out a while back that you lot had no way of knowing if the map was actually oriented with north at the top. I would be a horrible DM giving myself more work than necessary if I rotated maps arbitrarily just so you guys don't know where north actually is.
Hahahahahhaha.
Yeah, that's right, I did that. You guys may well need a compass at some point, or a point of reference, or a good intuite north roll!
