Nope... but same era. This was released about a year earlier, and many of the moves are similar.

Same company, as it's the same style of art.. that makes it
Renegade
!
I played the demo of this game from an Amiga Format magazine many times over, having never gotten my hands on the actual game.. but it's always stuck with me in terms of the animation and depth of that demo..

Correct.... it is
Renegade
.
I don't recognise yours.

The character has a UK accent and says things like "I've got it".. and "I'm scared". As well, he identifies various things "It's a withered rose", which I suspect is a result of them looking at the art they have done which is pure top down rather than isometric and many things can not be identified on visual alone.. ie a chalice looks like a circle.. Crowns as well. there also scale issues where you find a huge gold circle which is "my father's ring" .. Despite all of this though, I was so heavily impressed with this game at that time that it became a reference point for me and how games should be.. now however.. not so much.

I've been fascinated by some of the posts in here being completely missed, given that for me they were such epic games. Saumun posted
shinobi
and
beneath a steel sky
but they mostly went unrecognized at first. Sophia posted
Super Metroid
which I would have assumed EVERYONE knew.. It's interesting to see what a small sort of ecosystem our favorite games.. especially since we've all joined this place based on a single game

I'd certainly agree Cows...
Speaking from the UK's perspective, the video game crash never happened and the microcomputer was utterly dominant due to them retailing at a fraction of the price of consoles (I personally didn't know a single person that owned a Master System or NES in the 80s... NES games in particular were around 6 times more expensive than computer games). It was only really the advent of the SNES and Megadrive (Genesis in North America) that consoles sold well here.
Consequently, i'd struggle with most early console games (unless it was something very famous... or a coin-op port).
Similarly... Some of the 8 bit stuff i posted was very well known, but maybe only in the UK. So my initial surprise that nobody got, for example,
Lords of Midnight
was replaced by this realisation.
Anyway... That's my two cents, as the folk across the pond might say.
Here's another:
Oh... and i still don't know yours.

I was unable to find a screen shot of the first game that was large enough, so I posted the second.. but it's called
valhalla and the lord of infinity
Yours appears to be a
doom or quake
remake.. the bump mapping and the texture detail is higher than it should be, but the interface and monster style is clear.. if it's not one of those.. i have no idea..

Yes... It's
Quake
, with a HD texture mod.

Ooh what a surprise, Jan got mine straight away

.
Recognised [spoiler[Quake
somehow, despite having played it only very briefly, a long time ago - tried the walk-through-walls cheat only to find that unlike [ispoiler]Doom
you also need to be invincible as well or you get insta-killed via being crushed by the wall the moment you try to step through it (and that was the only cheat we had), lol.
Don't recall seeing any images from this one yet...

That would be
Sim City
.
Don't think the original has been posted, but a later edition was earlier in the thread.

I guessed Ameena's pretty fast, but I actually only played it on Mac at school..
I love the music for this one.. I played the game several times but never finished it.. I would sometimes just load the game for the intro and then exit.. just for the music

This came out for C64, Amiga, and Atari

I remember playing it on the Macs at school, too. I had the Amiga version at home, and I always thought it was better, but eh. The days of the Amiga port being the best one were soon over... they got
Sim City 2000
at school, and I loved it. I remember that I then asked for and got the Amiga version for Christmas, but by this point the Amiga's fortunes were waning, and it was a pretty big disappointment because it obvious they didn't try very hard on the port at all, and it tended to slow down a
lot. About the only thing going for it was that it ran in AGA mode so the graphics looked good, but they didn't use any of the Amiga's special features. I've heard it said they even converted to planar mode on the fly on every blit... no wonder it was so slow.

Cows' latest looks maddeningly familiar, but i'm afraid i don't know what it is.
Here's another:

is that
Rambo
?
I added another image to my post.. I can't show most of the main screens because the game name is in the game screen as part of the HUD. Which is one of the reasons I couldn't post pictures of Paradroid, which is another favorite of mine.. though probably one of the LEAST graphically impressive games ever made.. unlike the above posted one.
If you're unable to guess the games name though by this point it's
X-OUT

Sauman's is Ikari Warriors. I used to play it in the arcades, probably 30 years ago!

I must have been thinking of something else for cows'. I remember the name but never played the game.
Gambit is right on mine...
Ikari Warriors
! It had that rotary joystick, so that you could walk in one direction and fire in another.

Cows - A couple of mine (
Castle Master
and
Starball
) have had the name visible on the screen, but I just blanked it out by drawing a coloured square over it in Paintbrush

. Anyway, yep, Saumun got mine - not very difficult, I didn't think

.
Okay, here's another super-mega-easy-if-you've-ever-played-or-seen-it ones...

Sort of a punt, but the blocky landscape reminds me of
Minecraft

Rastan Saga
. Man I loved that game even though I was terrible at it. The music was amazing!
This modern reinterpretation of the main theme is still one of my favourites... so epic.

Of course you're right, and.... Wow! Just listened to the track you linked. That really is superb! I'd love to hear the moody track from the castle levels in a similar orchestral style. I always loved the way it built to that crescendo and then faded away.

Yep, Saumun, that's right - super-easy to recognise these days unless the game has somehow passed you by, but it's probably highly difficult for that to happen if you are any kind of computer gamer, given how huge it is (in every sense)

. It would be cool to play on a server with friends but I really only know one person who's up for playing it with me and we go through phases of wanting to play it so I'll get a server, we'll play for a couple of months, then end up doing all we want to do for now in that modpack and move on to something else, at which point I will cancel the server until next time

.

I did spend a lot of time in the seafront arcades as a teenager... I think I must have seen most available arcade games at one point or another. Set me a greater challenge!

Darius! We had the full 3 screen cabinet on Brighton's Palace Pier. It looked huge and daunting when I first played it!
You're making me feel so nostalgic right now
