Sorry about that. Try version 0.774. It works
better, I think. I wrote you an email as well with
the same information.

This is all very interesting, but it has to be said... are we ever going to see a new dungeon out of this (admitedly) long and hard work? The ultimate goal is how it plays, and not how it works. However I appreciate the effort you guys put in, without maybe we wouldn't know the things we do.

I cannot answer for Paul, but only for myself: my intention is to provide a documentation to encourage other people to use CSBuild to make dungeons and only secondarily making one myself.

And one more thing: Paul knows and shares as many bits and chunks of this information with me as I can grasp at a time. I don't. ;)

CSBuild comments and suggestions

Post by Zyx »

Hello, I just tried the CSBuild774, which is a great work, running smoothly on a 200MHz!
I have some comments and questions:

1) I have a little problem with the fonts: it seems the interline (the space between 2 lines) is too small, so each line is riding on the previous. It is sometimes hard to read.

2) Also, in the status bar, at the bottom of the window, there is a space for the following info: Level[(x,y)-...
I can't read the text after the coordinates because the space is too small (or the text too long).

3) When I load a dungeon created with dmute and DMBuild, it detects several dozens of duplicated object, with a window for each error, one after the other.
This has 2 consequences: it is tedious to load the dungeon and I can't memorize all the errors.
Is it possible to create a log and only one window, stating "there were errors loading this dungeon, check the log for details"?

4) I'd like to ask for a log too for the checks, as I first have to close the windows of the errors list before fixing them: that is, I have to memorize them all, or do the same checks lots of time.

5) It is unclear to me since which version of CSBuild there is no more backward compatibility with other DM or CSB engines like the DM PC version or the atari version with an emulator. I mean that if I use a converter on a dungeon.dat made by CSBbuild, is it guaranteed to work under DM PC?

6) Question: is it necessary to always answer "I understand" to the Fine Print? Can't the program remember if I answered it? Or can't an instruction in a config.txt bypass this screen?
BTW, if I answer "I do NOT understand", the program gives an error like "Failed to create empty document" which is a strange way to attempt communication with misunderstanding people.

7) Ok, I read the Fine Print, so I'm not asking this to Paul: did anybody start a manual? I don't even know how to put a wall! Somebody knows the list of the keys used in CSBuild?

8) How do i set an actuator to "inactive" and "no target" (that would be a purely decorative object)

Thank you very much for the feedback. That is how
we can make this thing better.
============================================

This thread has gotten out of control. I hope you don't mind
if I answer these problems/suggestions/questions in
separate threads. Right now I am quite busy working on
Amber's problems with CSBuild. But be assured that I will get
to yours in a couple days.
