Funny that, I carried on with the one I liked best (not #7) and finallycame up with this. Here's the same design with the key colour changed. I'm liking the pink or the orange best and am pretty close to using this as the final template -- once chosen, I'll have to design all the other screens (portoflio, contact, etc) and then use this as a base for the wordpress theme for the blog, though I may leave that until after the site is up and running. Oh yeah, I have to code it up and build it all too!

frisk_06 is my preferred one to this point, it is quite nice and sleek.
To me it doesn't look corporate at all, it is refreshing

OK, so this is almost certainly the design I'm going with, I can't waste any more time on it -- gotta get it out there! I removed the gradients, I think cleaner is better.

Only thing is the logo -- the name suggests 'speed' somehow, so I think a flowing script is better. Which of these do you think I should go with?

EDIT: Oh my God! I have just had a horrible panic... I am wondering if people will always initially think of 'being frisked' rather than the verb 'frisk' (to leap and skip about playfully) and whether this will affect their perception of me? I liked the name cos it was a little bit fun but maybe this is actually a problem. Shit.

It's an americanism, so for any british based work it owuld not be a problem, and I cannot comment on our transatlantic cousins!

I prefer the normal design of a to the slanted italics of b by the way!

EDIT: Oh go on,lets have one last variation -- changed the type in the logo and added some subtle gradients back in but removed the dotted lines.

a is the better colour, d is also doable as not to over the top italics and both words - in that case, orange design again?

I edited the post and added E and F -- any improvements there do you think?

Do you prefer this completely white, clean look, or the previous two banded design?

I like the name Frisk too.

I already saw e, and prefer it to f - but prefer my nominations above either!

frisk_11a is my preferred one.
I don't like the italics and I find the 13x series has too much "white".

OK, for completeness, I had to try something else. Will tweak the colours a bit, but what do you thinkof this? The reasoning is to make the blog work better (which I haven't designed yet) --articles are easier to read on white -- these will be on the left, the tools and categories will be reversed on the right hand dark panel.

maybe you should change that orange colour to something else.. green, red? I don`t know. Orange doesn`t fit well to the grey IMHO. But the whole site looks good!!

Thanks all -- I'm pretty much there. I have made two final variaitons. The grey is now slightly blue which I think is better and I made a slightly different logotype, minus the tagline. I think it works better without the tagline: much cleaner -- and the first line of the body copy says what I do anyway.
