@Saumun: it reminds me of
Sid Meier's
Pirates!
but the graphics looks a bit different. But perhaps it's a different version of the game... or my memory fails me.
Finally playing and immensely enjoying the awesome Thimbleweed Park -a-reno!

All the way back to 1983! Technically brilliant at the time, but bloody hard....

Since it has been over a week, it seems this thread has died (since it was previously getting almost daily posts).... So the last one was
Phoenix
!

I don't recognise the screenshot, but i'll take a punt on
It Came from the Desert
.... purely because it had some kind of giant creepy crawly (don't think it was a spider though), and errr.... a desert.

Hehe yes, Sophia is right - you were seeing the image on a much larger scale than it actually is, I think, Saumun

Argh, meant to spoiler that but curse being a noob... also how long will my posts require moderation (it prevents me from editing it!) ?

Hmm no, sadly not...I'm guessing you have to aim the catapult in order to wreck the castle, though? Sounds fun...

Can you
accidentally hit one of your own soldiers, preferably that one on the horse?
That would be even funnier...

The screenshot is from the Amiga version. The 16bit versions looked very nice for the time (1986), but sadly IMO the gameplay was somewhat lacking. There was a main conquest part and a few mini-games like jousting, castle raids, and the siege engine. Unfortunately they were all very short and the game was a little on the easy side.
@Jan.... Lol, unfortunately not! I'd have liked a nod to python where you could shoot livestock.

I played
Defender of the Crown
a lot when I was younger. Actually I tried a flash version recently but I kept losing. Either it got harder or I forgot what the required strategy was (I didn't try for long, I must be honest).
How about this one. Bonus points if you can name the craft being piloted.

Well... It's
Carrier Command
, but no bonus point for me. I can't name the craft.

Hmm, I was thinking it reminds me of a game I used to own,
Settlers II
...so it looks like I'm close enough
.
How about this, an old favourite of my dad's...

From all games presented here this one would win the 'evil graphics award (EGA)' easily. Would even beat Pong I bet
(well, at this time it was surely a challenge for the programmers...)

That looks a bit like
Cadaver
? Although I think the colours aren't right.
