Champion multiplication

On one of my travels through level 1, I kind of got a little curious and decided to starve my champions to death, just to see how they'd react. And I must admit I was quite surprised.
Once they got down to no food, they started getting damage (which is fully normal) and eventually died... Or acted like they did.
My first champion to have died was Zed and it did not surprise me much. What surprised me is that when he died, he left down all his stuff and the usual bones... But also remained in the party. I could still get to his inventory and could still attack with him. I gave him something to eat and he liked it. But his icon had disappeared from the top right corner. So he was just kind of like a ghost.
After I recovered from surprised, I continued my experience and finally got Gothmog killed. all went pretty normally for him except when he died, he dropped all his stuff plus..... three sets of bones!
That was to much for me.. So I just saved the game to have proof I was not insane and quitted it, somewhat feeling proud of now having TWO Zeds and THREE Gothmogs...
