Shading (v0.06)

Not sure if this has always been the case, but some floor objects appear not to be shaded.

For example, around the corner from the 2 door/9 pads puzzle are three or four screamers in a hall. The hall has a puddle in it. I killed the screamers and left their slices on the ground, on top of the puddle. When looking back down the hall, the slices are shaded but the puddle isn't.

This also seems to be true of floor slime, although this is transparent so it's harder to tell.

I had noticed that the puddles looked a little funny, they seemed too bright. That must have been it.

None of this has changed at all; not even since V0.00!

Also all the graphics are taken from screen-grabs of DM so is no different to that - I think.

I guess it's always been there then... but surely it doesn't make sense that some floor objects are shaded and some aren't, DM authenticity aside?

Surely the slices should be shaded (as they have a finite height) but the puddle shouldn't (as it is flat, and level with the floor)?

Anyway - shading of this sort is implemented as black pixels in the source bitmap, and nothing to do with the engine (arguably it should be, but for now it isn't!). As the source bitmaps come straight from DM, then I presume that everything is the same, but it could be argued that DM had it wrong too...

I think I figured the puddle out! When you are more than a square away from fregular tiles they get darker (shaded) however water puddles don't. The get smaller when you step away from them but they are always the same bright blue. I don't know if that is how it is in DM or CSB but it doesn't look quite right. The puddles should get darker when you step away from them the way everything else does, otherwise it looks like they have their own light or something.

Not fixed...RTC does as DM does
