Beholders casting wrong spells!

This might not even be a bug, but:

I was just slaying beholders (what are they called, wizard's eyes?), and one beholder didn't even bother casting fireballs at me, but 3 ZO-spells in a row.

Has this ever occured in DM? I know that Beholders can (and will) open doors with ZOs, but I don't remember hitting my party with that particular spell.

All monsters that can cast spells, pick which one to cast at random from their "list" of known spells. From what you describe you were just lucky; if you try and do the same thing again you'll probably end up toast... ;-)

Clearly though, the monsters with the ability to cast ZOs should only do so when confronted with a closed door.

Yep, beholders and vexirks will cast ZO spells in DM, which is always a relief!

Perhaps the ZO spell chances are a little high...I had a door closing battle with a beholder. I closed and it opened the door instantly for about three spells!
