I recently played DM (or tried) on a very high spec machine running Windows 2000, and found it unplayably fast. Monsters, timing and spells all flew too quickly, though character movement seemed the same - so even being up against a normally slow moving dragon was challenging to impossible.

Anyone else found this, and if so what limits do they find between DM being challenging and unplayable?

Yes, this is a problem right now, but I think the future is to play thru an emulator. We will see x86 emulators where you can specify CPU type and speed and run DOS and play old games within Linux and/or Windows 2010.

Look at it is today, if you only have a Windows 2000 installation and want to play Dungeon Master with sound, you can install an Amiga or Atari ST emulator and play much easier than having to make a DOS partition and re-boot every time you need to run Dungeon Master.

for me, DM works pretty fine with win2k, only the mouse is speeded up terribly.

so it's not a w2k problem, which i thought (newer 'dos' optomised for fast comp possibly). MUst just be the processor - i have high memory and dm runs ok (then again i am still under win98)

the mouyse speed is more to do with the resolution/w2k i think.
unless you are used to it, lowering the windows mouse speed will lower that too

`Slomo deluxe can make ANY(REPEAT) any Computer run as slow as the first FRIST COMPUTER if you really need to.

what it does is runs a program at a fraction of normal speed. typiccaly you can do 1% to 99.9% but the beauty of this dos command(worked for me in win98se) is you can restack it. like 5% of 50% meaning 5% of half your normal speed. I find using some of the dos nes emulators i'm forced to do this all the time.

os's if you got win NT or linux there have been a few programs(mostly COSTLY retail ones) that doesn't really emulate other OS's but insteads makes your ocmputer run\install\use those other o's at the same time as your using sometihng else... tihnk msdos box ecept it is real and true dos mode. I tihnk in the future a more multi os cpu will be made. or atleast programs you can buy or get for free will allow this to work perfectly.

RTC runs perfectly on machines that are too fast for the original DM, or even just can't run it anymore. I think that's quite a nice hand-off : )

Cool about the slomo programme...though i don't have a PC that i'd need it for yet *sigh*
