Door graphics - more than you'd think (DM)

Post by beowuuf »

Apparently some levels have 4 ornate graphics, not just the possibility of three that DMute says.
For levels 3, 6 and 12, if you add +8/+9 to the 3rd byte of a basic door, you will get this fourth graphic.

Thanks to Guillaume Bastard (of FUL YA pit race fame) for that one : )

Yes, but only for level 2(3) it is a new graphic for the level.
BTW, I managed to change the sets of doors for each level. Absurdely easy!
Guillaume Bastard also managed to put more monster types than allowed by Dmute on a level. <i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub17.ezboard.com/uianclark.show ... age=EN>Ian Clark</A>  <IMG HEIGHT=10 WIDTH=10 SRC="http://www.ezboard.com/ezgfx/gicons/anim_1.gif" BORDER=0> at: 11/16/01 11:05:40 pm

Actually, each level has its own number of ornates, going from 0 to 4.
These numbers can be changed and the ornate graphics for the levels can also be changed (and you could see that one graphic is never used in either DM or CSB).
As there is no editor to allow that, hex editing is required and that's not very handy.
Note that the same thing is possible for pads, monsters and walls.
DMute can only change monster types and wall types but it is really possible to change their number (but still hard to manage correctly)

I'm guessing the 'who?' is for me (that's me Guillaume)
I've been recently working on the dungeon.dat and I saw number of monsters is defined for each level; I confirmed that by putting 3 monster types for level 2 (or 1, whatever, the first level with monster). If you don't believe me, I can send you the modified dungeon.dat.
The main point is that we could theorically have 15 monsters per level; unfortunately, DMute prevents from changing monster type numbers, and that is not really handy to change it directly in the hexa file.
And I'm trying to make a programme that could easily do these changes.
Of course, pads and ornates could be changed too.

That's even better : apparently we can have up to 7 ornate graphics per level!
Having 4 ornates meant that there were at least 3 bits for the ornate, so that was logical the last values were also used! <i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub17.ezboard.com/usphenx.showPu ... >Sphenx</A> at: 12/5/01 11:03:02 pm

OK, everybody can now see it.
I've put the dungeon at <a href="http://dmweb.free.fr/">dmweb.free.fr/</a>
In the file shares, in section Chaos Strikes Back Prison.

No much to see, just a test.
