tomb of the fire staff

I am in the tomb of the fire staff (SNES version) and near the second door to the entrance there is a blue ball or something that has appeared. It just floats there and does nothing. I can walk through it.
Any idea what the heck it is or does?

If it resembles a zo/des ew spell exploding then it sounds like a game bug (I've had those in the PC version)...if the game isn't crashing then you should be ok, but does sound a bit serious... it's not any part of the game I've heard about before though

I've had the same problem, on the scorpion level though, kill a thief and pop up it comes. I've been playing the SNES version steadily for a few years and it doesn't seem to affect the overall performance. Just an annoying little glitch I guess.
