There's a message on the Encyclopaedia forums about the CAPS project, which is trying to preserve original Amiga games in a new format that will allow original copy protected disks to be presrved as disk image files.

I'm interested in helping out with this.

I have original versions of Dungeon Master v2.1 and v2.2 as wells as CSB v3.5.

I have a plain vanilla A1200 with 2Mb chip ram and only one internal floppy drive (no HD). The external floopy has died. Can I use this setup to make IPF files? I definitely don't want to start sending my floppy disks around the world; it's taken me long enough to find these as it is.

Any more information would be appreciated.

well, if you've no luck.. I have an A500 with expanded mem that I would send to you as long as you pay shipping. (or I may even pay half the shipping cost for the sake of you helping so much here.. maybe even all if it's not too much) anway.. if it comes down to it.. it's there if you need it.

Also there are a number of progs (I have a few of them) for the amiga that will allow you to copy sector by sector byte for byte any disk and it worked for both my CSB and DM back ups I had made.

Thanks for the offer, but a500s are easy to get on eBay -- only a few pounds can yield some fantastic old hardware!

The byte-copiers I also have but these are no good for the CAPS project -- it uses a much more sophisticated disk interrogator program.

I'm realy looking for more information on how to go about this, so I'll post my message on DMWEB again as it seems to be working now.

*UPDATE* So much for that, still can't post replies to that thread on the Encyclopedia, even though it was all working earlier...

oh, about the copiers.. I meant if you had decided to make a back up of the disks to send out or to use in the process of making these image files.

It's just annoying - the bets thing i find to do it keep goign backand reposting....usually after the third time you or so you tend to post!
But yes, it's gettign really really annoying

Thanks Christophe -- that was the bit I missed! I thought I might be able to d/l the software from their site, but obviously they are keeping it a bit more secure than that.

Yes, it would be very nice to preserve .ipf images of every single version of DM, CSB and DMII that was released on Amiga.

I remember reading somewhere (maybe in their FAQ) that their file format was not limited to Amiga, and may be used also for Atari ST floppies. That would be nice too to have all the ST versions. But currently, no ST emulator can use .ipf images.
