It has two practical uses that I'm aware of. You can make as many as you like and leave them along your path so you know where you've been (like a Hansel and Gretel scenario). The second use will be revealed to you when you near the end of the game. ;)

You need a ZoKathRa Spell to free the Powergem from the plasm it is encased in.
Also, there is a door in CSB, which can be opened with a ZoKathRa instead of a key.

There is more than one door in CSB that can be opened with ZoKathRa.
