A 15 years old mystery

The scans page of Dungeon Master reminded me of a mystery that I 've never been able to slove. Here it is:
On the back of the Atari ST and Amiga boxes, you can see an in-game screenshot. And on that screenshot, ALEX HAS NO LEFT HAND ANY MORE!!

What's the explanation? Did it happened to someone? and How? I thought that it happened when you stayed wounded too long, but that never happened to me
If Anyone has the answer.....

hmm funny idea - a missing hand...
I guess Ill launch a DM game on my old ST and cast a few fireballs at my party until a hand is wounded
then Ill just let em sleep a few days and see what happens :)

If I remember correctly I tried this several years ago, but with no result.... Try anyway, maybe I simply didn't wait long enough

The screen shots seem slightly outwith the final game, and were probably produced near the end - so nothing to do with a hidden injury model
You can produce this no hand effect by loading up a hand with one of the 'hidden' potions that weren't finally implemented in the gamethrough DMute

Yep, there's one or two things on the box that never made it into the final game, including the message about Syra's spell.
If you think that's interesting, wait for my DM site that will have scans of the original packaging for the very first ST version. The screen shots on there are VERY different from what ended up in the game! There were only a thousand of those made, but FTL had to use them up even though the game changed significantly by the time it was released.
Hopefully, the first version of the site will be online before Christmas, but I'm not making any promises!
