Anyone interessed in adding spells?

Well, hello all...
First, I have to thanks Christophe for creating such a good site, and Paul for giving us the opportunity to play these great games again, on Windows...
So, I'd like to know what kind of spells you would like to see added to this game? As Paul generously gave us access to the source code, I have in mind to try adding some new spells, like :
* Teleport : teleport the group in a place previously designed as the receptacle (4 destination possible, one per character), even if not on the same level. The amount of Mana required will be proportional to the distance, of course!
* Receptacle : see above...
* Heal : same as the potion, but no more fumbling in the inventory while trying to flee the oponent... (will cost twice as much, but you can't have everything, huh?). Can be extended to nearly every potion... This could make Priest levels a little more important, no?
* Seal : creates a temporary wall...
* Mane : create food (barely nourrishing, just to avoid dying)
* Bless : add some points to the Luck hidden attribute...
* Curse : lower the opponent's Luck attribute...
* Uncurse : pretty obvious... Could be proportional to weight of objet, maybe...
* Alter Time : slows the flow of time for everything except the group's moves.
* Dream : the immaterial being detachs itself from the group. No action could be made (opening doors, for instance), like at the start of the game. Monsters can be passed through, and the time is frozen. At the end of the spell, the being is of course returned to the group (a wonderful scout!, but very costly in mana).
* Equilibrum : Stamina and Mana are (more or less) levelled, depending on the strength of the spell...
* Suffer : the opponent shares your sufferings. Very short spell, and lasting one blow only.
Well, a lot of spells could be added...
What do you think?

Wow! I guess I was right to assume that people wouldn't want new champions either.

A few raw ideas:
OH EW ROS - STEAL: a random item from an enemy is stolen, if they carry any.
FUL KATH RA - MINE: lay the mine, and when an enemy steps on it it explodes.
YA IR ROS - MAGIC MISSILE: such as a magic arrow, or bolt that damages certain monsters.
OH KATH - SONIC BOOM: another offensive spell; thunder if you like.
VI IR - ICE BALL: and yet another...
YA KATH RA - EARTHQUAKE: a limited range spell that affects party as well, but may devastate certain monsters.
ZO GOR RA - PRISMIC MISSILE: (stolen from Bane) generates a random, but not always friendly effect.

Neato, glad to see someone's read the book and knows what the various runes mean!
Some good ideas, although the prismic missile reminds me of magic the gathering for some reason, lol.
Definately good to have some uses for GOR though, although I'm not sure about the VI IR being ice, but still, pretty good!
Maybe it would be possible to have something similar to attack minions in DM2, not sure.
Ps: I'm still against making changes to DM and the post above was posted in the wrong thread by mistake, but still if you are gonna do it, good luck!

Lol, did everyone ignor my spell ideas? I included the magic symbols and I already mentioned steal as a spell. Oh Ew Ros is already a spell in DM2, sorry. I already had Vi Ir as an Ice bolt. I guess I won't bother any more.

I think should be rather connected with water as a symbol of life, not ice.

Vi will always be connected to life. There's no reason that the water element can't also be connected to ice.

Yes the Vi water/ice complication. I suppose we are running into the limitations of this system. We could change OH EW ROS to OH IR ROS I suppose. Get our own backs on the gigglers. Though I prefer to hit them with DES VEN, and, believe me, this IS the quickest giggler killer.

Sorry, Oh Ir Ros is also a spell in DM2. How about what I had: Des Ew Ros, Des for desolation (empty hand), Ew depicting an arm, and Ros for the thief's hand, or something like that. Des Ven is also the quickest Trollin killer.

Shows how often I play DM2. I have not played it since I had it on my Amiga 4000 (now that WAS a great machine) many years ago. I will try and get it to work on the PC but I remember it as being far too easy, but fun.

Interesting idea, except it could be too powerful... unless it had to be a certain power level to work on enemies of a certain strength, or something. But then, why not just make a huge fireball or desven that killed them instantly? ;)
Also, what would happen if that enemy carried something... like the key you need to get to the next level... hehe

I can't remember where I stole the idea from... it was some game. Probably Bane. The difference with Bane though it is played in phased time, so the spells could work different. Maybe items should be banished as well: it'll make you think twice about using it then! Again another good reason why we have to research this.
VI EW NETA: Lifesteal - sucks some health from a monster and gives a proportion back to caster
FUL BRO: Firewater (ie whisky!) Repleneshes water slightly but also poisons character, and reduces internal luck for a while, or a stat.
Drunk DM characters, who'd have thought it.

Yep, Paul, adding new spells being at the same time good and bad are a great idea!
The Mane spell I proposed should then poison you slightly, or drop your Luck stat too, like your Firewater...
This way, even powerful spells would be sparringly used...
Maybe all the new spells should have drawbacks...

I think that a spell that pushes any monster back one or more steps would be useful in case you've been trapped in a dead-end by a monster, because if it gets pushed back then you might be able to escape quickly. Note: I have died a few times by being trapped and killed by a monster.
(DES GOR NETA) well be the spell runes.

That is a spell in DM2, Oh Kath Ku. Pull is in the game also. Check out the Dungeon Master II spell list on this site.
