Weapons and other equipment

Hi, I'm not a very experienced player, so I wuold like to know something about weapons I've found. Which are the best of the weapons I'm carrying at the moment; Delta, Rapier, Mace Of Order, Morningstar, Axe. I like swords and Axe. What about those blunt weapons. They seem to be very poor. Mace gives +5 to strenght, but is it a good weapon?

What about armor. Do they really matter a lot? I carry mails and leather. Plates weight too much. Are they so good that I should use them? And what about slings and crossbows? Are they worth using?

Thanks, and sorry about my not-so-good english.

One more question. Do shields help me as I carry them on the "off-hand"?

Dalta/rapier are better than the axe (the delta is a direct step up from axe)

People don't notice any benefits with the blunt ones, or shields

Armour does make a difference - it reduces spell and physical damage, so always wear the best - your call if you equip the back members with armour cast-offs

So I could throw my shields and blunt weapons away? They weight pretty much too. I found some more weapons, Diamond Edge and Fury. Diamond Edge seems to be a good weapon, I haven't tried the Fury. I know it casts Fireballs.

It depends on your style of play, but personnal i carry potions in all off-hands, and use the axe/delta/rapier etc as weapons
The morning star is good for melee if you don't have another weaon liek that earlier in the game

fury has chop/melee like delta - give it to the magic user to blast away while the fighter uses delta, rapier or diamond edge (good for armoured opponents)

How many charges does the Fury have?

i use shields...they dont benefit too much, but it simply looks better with.
my mages use flask 2nd-hand, my fighters dont cast during fights anyways (only to finish off), so they dont need flasks.
the weapons in order:
inquisitor
hardcleave
delta
rapier
diamond edge (maybe...i personally dont use it)
axe/sabre

Idon't have fighters and mages. My champions are like "jack-of-all-trades". Everybody fight and everybody casts fireballs. Thay have all equal skills.
Do you think I'm stupid 'coz I play like this? Should I have 2 warriors, a priest and a mage?
Is rapier really better than diamond edge. DE was quite hard to get, nasty traps.

Nah, biasing the team means that in magic-intensive battles you have weaker back members that die - your only as strong as your smallest health!
After playing sphenx's latest dungeon again, I'm thinking of starting to round my characters more when playing...too many puzzles and attacks were painful to get passed as i had to carry dead wood - the second i reduced down to a one man party after one puzzle, i could bomb through!

Personally I always find that swapping flasks to cast healing during a battle is one distraction too far...everyone with the ability to cast a potion gets a flask - I've never been able to carry on toe-to-toe with golems, knights and faders without using up everyone's mana!

For the different attacks, the hint book on this site shows you what the different attacks do for defense and attack in rough terms...cleave is good on armoured, but i always value the thrust over it for other things

Keep the Diamond Edge - a fantastic weapon. The stab option hits hard against many monsters and doesn't take as long to 'reload' as other attack options such as thrust or melee.

I also asked myself which weapon you should keep: the delta over the axe, the diamond edge over the rapier?
Are swords more efficient than falchions?
What about the sabre?

Against some monsters, only the "Berzek" option gives some results.
There are 2 "berzeker" weapons in the game, which one is the best?

I noticed the characteristics of weapons are available nowhere, in the game or in this site. Wouldn't it be possible to have a schedule?

Is the black armor worth it? (It is very heavy)

sorry, i called it hint book, it's the advernturer's hand book, but it IS on this site:

http://dmweb.free.fr/DMAdventurersHandbook.htm

page 5 gives weapon options

for the rest - hard to say about the armour of darc, you'd have to guess it's slight better for armour, but nothing noticeable
delta seems to be the progression from the axe

i still prefer to have thrust then berserk, and don't use diamond edge, but other people prefer it

I don't know if there is much difference int the two weapons...inquisitor gives you mana, but otherwise i dunno

I must confess that I play by the classic roleplay image: two fighter/ninja in front, then One Priest and Wizard in the rear (all of them with more skills, but one speciality). And I prefere lighter armour like Mithril and cape/robe for the mage-users. I know this is not the most effective way to play, but It gives me the best gameplay feeling.

Some interesting questions about the weapons, but it usually comes down to style of play. I prefer the Hardcleave to the Inquisitor due to the 'chop' option but my heaviest bezerk hit has come from the Inquisitor. It seems that the sword has a harder 'chop' than the Falchion, though this may be due to the fact that my characters are generally stronger by the time they reach the sword. The stab from the Diamond Edge certainly hits harder than the stab from a dagger, and once your characters are advanced enough I think that the stab from the D.E. is much more efficient than any other weapon attack against any monster.

As for armour, I have yet to see any proof that it does anything...

The Diamond Edge stab is more powerful than the dagger stab, but for other weapons it is not clear.
When you characters advance, they can get huge scores with the axe chop, comparable to the Edge. Of course, Delta has advantages: 1 mana, fighting options, but I never could be sure it is superior to axe.
And has the axe a heavier chop than the sword?
Does the Morningstar melee give better results than axe or Delta? I didn't really noticed it.
Likewise, nothing ever allowed me to conclude that the Inquisitor berzek is heavier than Hardcleave (I forgot the names!).
Those questions are eating my brains!
I like the Edge, and would like it too to be the ultimate one, but against some monsters, it is useless. Is Expert advanced enough?

Thanks for the ref., they say weapon weight and type of weapon change final results, so I know there ARE differences!
BTW, there are options I didn't know! and where is 'bash'?

I think that the handbook is for an earlier version...as you say, there are some options i didn't recognise
Bash though, is from clubs...

some theories:
axe-like weapons are str dependant
sword-like wpns depend more on dexterity
blunt weapons are crap, but do extradam vs skeletons and maybe other monsters
the diamond edge has some points bonus-damage, which shows very nice with stab, because stab is fast and so deals this bonus very often.
