just on board sound = no sound ???

Hi again folks,

after having managed to install DM2 successfully on the graphical/video side I tried nearly all the sound drivers in "setup.exe" and ended with: nothing. Not one tiny "beep". In adition to this the sound samples just blocked my system so I had to reboot every time I tried the "test" option. I played DM1 only with the PC speaker sound but there is no option for this in DM2.
But without any sound it is nearly impossible to play (no mummies breathing in your neck!!!) or at least much much less fun, I suppose!

Can anyone help? I am even willing to buy a sound card but don't know which one would do the job (and: will it work for DM1 as well? I don't want to ask too much, but that would be terriffic!!!).

As a useful background: My system consists of an Intel Celeron 600 processor on a GigaByte Mainboard GA-6WMMC7 with, as I said, no sound card ("on board sound"; Yes, ok, ok, I wanted to save money...)

Glad for every hint which might help! Thanks in advance.

Nik

Nik, I don't think you could do any better than to buy an old Soundblaster 16 (well, if you can find one, I guess!) I've had one for about 5\6 years now and it's never let me down. I keep shifting it from pc to pc and it still works brilliantly. Best of all, it's still a 'yardstick' type of card and is always at the top of the list of compatible cards for heaps of software. Another tip, way back I bought an old, cheap amplifier with a couple of battered old Wharfdale speakers - my pc is connected to this rig and sounds just great - heaps of volume and very good quality sound. Hope you get it sorted out.
Cheers
Ian

I have a Yamaha OPL3-SAx, and just before I replaced my hard drive i got DM 2 working with both sound sets (normal and midi)from one of the bottom options on the list.
This option then meant i suddenly got DM sound too! Not speaker fuzzy game slowing crap sound either!
This card manages to win the fight against the onboard sound card of my motherboard, so no harm in windows.

So that is another that works, but the s/b16 sounds a better option : ).
