CSBuild 0/812 and CSBwin 9.6t

Time to start anothe thread, I suppose.
Thanks to those who took the time to report these problems.
=========================================
Version 9.6t
--Allow up to 500 characters in Floor Text.
--Fix Load problem. The Atari code destroyed a key before
removing from the character's hand which caused its weight
to not be removed from the character's load. Keys were not
too much of a problem but Conflux had much heavier 'keys'.
--Confine Wall-Tapping noise to the wall immediately in front
of the party.
===========================================
Version 0.812
--Properly convert old Portraits so that 'Show Graphic'
is the default. ITZA (NABI) was one of the Portraits
that had an unused bit set which caused the picture
frame not to be displayed.

9.6t has been deleted. It still had debug code for the
Load/Key problem. Caused you to be unable to
restart a saved game.
Version 9.6u is posted. I hope it is a little better.
Let me know what is wrong with it.

all seems well so far... : )

I posted CSBuild version 0.813. Nothing important.
I now know how to provide tooltips and context-sensitive
help. I put some in the Edit Champion Portrait dialog.
I am open to suggestions as to where additional help would
be invaluable. I am going to ignore all suggestions like "Provide
tooltips and help for all controls and all dialogs." These things
are TEDIOUS to install. Please ask only for those cases that
you find confusing or you cannot remember how things work.
And include your suggested text whenever possible.
It is sort of silly to fill the forum with suggestions like this so
probably it would be best to write directly to me.
=========================================
Version 0.813
--Flag stairwell as improper target for actuator messages.
--Hide advanced features in Edit Champion Portrait dialog
when not needed.
--Add some context help and tool tips to Champion Portrait dialog.

If you put a pressure pad, operated by nothing, you get a disabled actuator. It would be useful to be able to do the reverse operation. Something like a check on the disabled actuator dialog to make it a pressure pad, operated by nothing. This way one could easily transform decorative objects into actuators and vice versa.
Same remark for pushbuttons and wall disabled actuators.
If i put an actuator targetting a stairwell, I got the following message in CSBwin:
Illegal Actuator Target
Source=[coordinates]
Destination=[coordinates]
No great harm but the designer probably meant something else.
This is ok for me so far. But after that, CSBwin crashes! I'm just full of fear trying to imagine what would be a great harm then
Tooltips: I could help except that I don't know which dialogs are obscure. So if new users find them difficult to apprehend, start a new thread about tooltips, asking for explnations about a dialog, and if nobody else does it, I'll suggest a text.
This means of course that it would be public (not private mails to Paul), which seems better to me anyway, as regular users may learn some unknown tricks even for commonly used dialogs. Also, the plurality of opinions may lead to better texts.

Oh, boy. This programming world is certainly
full of puzzles and traps. See if 9.6v (I'm running
out of letters) is any better.
I'll be quite happy when nobody needs any further help.
So please, if you find no obscurities then provide no
clarities.
===========================================
Version 9.6v
--Don't crash after warning user about illegal actuator target.

Actually, i've found that if i make a giggler float, and he goes over a pit, and is facing south, and it's a wednesday, and my party is carrying a green apple in the 13th inventory slot of the second character, csb4win gives me the answer to the gibberish scroll
can you fix it? : )

I am unable to reproduce this problem. Have you
tried it in Central Standard Time?

Just a unrelated mention.. Paul I noticed you were not Mod of this section yet most obviously you should be so I rectified that. You can now set forth the god-like powers of Moderator on this domain. Let me know if you wish to help in any other sections.

lol, no no no, with godlike mod powers he can banish off-topic rants like this with a wave of his mouse!
and i put my clock to CST and the dungeon turned into EOTB
i think it might just be a problem with win98 : )

Beowuuf, obviously your computer is not year 2K compliant because otherwise you would obtain EOTB3. But I couldn't import my previous characters from DM (after porting them to CSB), which is an HUGE GAP in CSBuild. This discovery will certainly delay a lot the release of a final CSBuild 1.0, so I propose to rename it for the new year 2004. I propose "BloodyFish v0.1" in reference to the riddle of the ressurection of the king in the crypt of Conflux II. An opportune name with the "Return of the King" movie!
By the way, I heard that you must cast a FUL bomb spell to get EOB2. Is it true?

BLOODY FISH!
30 minutes of handcramping running arund spiders to get back upstairs and get some items, and its a bloody fish! : )
version 0.96t had the FUL bomb => EOTB2 bug
in 0.96u FUL bomb => Knight of 'Ne', who orders you to cut down the mightiest tree in the forest
and the funny thing is, i'm getting paid to type this...guess i should go back to work now...

So far no godlike powers were used to stop this conversation so we probably may assume that some off-theme rants are quite welcome or , at least not too disturbing. As long as I don't eexperience the EOTB effect, I'm quite happy. Just imagining playing something like Imprisoned again or Conflux combined with the coloured wall decorations and riddle-depth of EOTB... *shudder*

CSBwin Version 9.6v1 is posted for zyx.

Is that an untested version not to be used until further notice ?

I remembered it from your email. Just wanted to check if there were other reasons for not using it so far.

Version 9.6v1 is an ordinary release to fix a problem.
When I said "For Zyx" I only meant that he found the
problem and needs the fix for his dungeon....soon to be
released, I understand. In this case, the problem was
a limitation in the Atari code that I relaxed by making
an array larger.
You should use this release for your work and play. The
more it gets used the better.

Paul, thank you for the last release. It worked. Could you do in priority the "DM rules" check request for the next release?

I posted CSBuild version 0.814 and
CSBwin version 9.6v2. Again, these are at the request
of Zyx but are part of the standard release sequence.
=============================================
Version 0.814
--Allow designer to specify DM rules as the default.
=============================================
Version 9.6v2
--Allow designer to specify DM rules as the default.

Zyx, is is necessary (stated) in the Conflux II release, that CSBwin V0.96v2 or higher is needed for gameplay?
Regards, PitD

by Zyx
Not sure what you meant, PitD. I hope the following will answer it.
CSBwin96v2 is not "necessary", but it will just ensure a better play (fix some warnings and make DM rules the default).
However, it would be wise to use the latest version!
As for "stated", I put a warning in the thread where you download Conflux II.
Paul: thank you for the quick release!

I meant that one text file was included stating the necessary version of CSBwin (I think you put 9.6t there) - just wanted to know if that is enough or if 9.6v2 was compulsory. That's all. Have a relaxing christmas and thanks for all your work and bug fixes on the Conflux II - dungeon!

Same to you and all the others out there - happy new year! Actually I was quite glad to get off the screen for a while, Conflux II and RTC have kept me pretty busy and my head was starting to complain, let alone my fingers ;o)
