I'v just sent a record-breaking save to the team for verification -- beating Charlatan's "Meet Lich Vecna" by 30 moves: 255!
OK, so I only get one point for it, but I wanted to see if it was possible.
The 623 moves for the Dwarven treasure looks beatable, but it's probably very tight!

You did it! Impressive record, Gambit.

Wow! Charlatan! You are some kind of machine! That's very impressive, especially the Lich Vecna -- you must be really tight on every move to have got that so low!
I only tried the Lich Vecna one for a quick challenge. I'm not concetrating on minimal moves until I know the dungeon a little better.... but then watch your back, Charlatan, I intend to reclaim some of those titles!

Thanks Beo, I could not edit Zyx' entry. BTW, I hope some of the competitors keep log files I'd personally very much like to see some of the recordings!

You should have said that earlier, i didnt save while getting to the lich or getting a flask and they only take about a minute. I will try and keep my recorded record attempts but i just deleted the last lot of 100 because if you dont CSBWin crashes, and i have mentioned this to Paul.S. I want to see someone getting the crown of kings just so i can see how to cast an open door spell, its driving me mad! I have tried about half the combinations of the symbols but have given up for the moment and i'm hoping it'l turn up in a scroll or something. Learnt a few nice spells like fireball though.

No problem. It was decided against keeping logs for the competition because it would be too complicated if you started multiple times from the same save game or changed CSBwin.exe files - that would include a lot of manual work to make proper Playfiles.
I'm just curious and interested in the playing styles used in this extraordinary dungeon, so if some of you don't mind keeping one or two complete game files I'm sure a lot of people would be delighted to watch them including myself!

The spell does exist...somewhere....
Not that you need it to get passed the indestructible one...

I found the spell through experimenting -- clue: it's three runes and starts quite high.
I've only found one place where it was REQUIRED and that isn't The Immortal.
As for minimal moves, I've been examining my maps and I doubt it's possible to beat Antman's 174 for Lich Vecna. Well done, I'm very impressed! *Bows to the Master*

When playtesting I think at 174 moves I was still in some corner shivering from what I'd seen was waiting for me... so you don't have to hide at all... your former records were pretty impressive already!

Eh, i'm sure if you know your way perfectly and don't turn at all, you can sneak that score down a little...

Charlatan gave logs for lich and flask, incase you want to see it!

Ooh, yes please, I wanna see how the super speedy Conflux Master does it!

by beowuuf
Lol, it was to pitd, i beleive, who commented on wantign to see the log files
I dunno if, like the timing trials, thje logs should be available for the comp so people can worship and get ideas on how to beat it....I'll let zyx decide on that...
Antman - I forgot you mentioning you had games with archmaster ninja levels...atm i assume that they had minimal bearing, unless someone else disagrees...or you say 'i took out everyone with punches as it was suddenly so easy compared to normal fighting'

I did that Ninja trick before i knew it was banned, but I am not abusing it in any record attempts, thats why i didn't send in my first saves of the three main quests. I've got a log file of the Lich, but i am reluctant to release it unless someone really wants to see it. Anyway, too much Conflux, time for bed.

No problem about logs! I'll see if I can beat that lich attempt, though it looks pretty tough. I had trouble doing it in 255 moves, let alone half that!

antman: no problem, i assumed as much, and now realise why you haven't submitted more quests : )

Hmmm, the logs. I wouldn't like the first-time adventurers to have a look at them.
Maybe only people who already completed the given quest (wether breaking a record or not) should be allowed to watch the recordman's log.
But how would we ensure this rule is followed?
Also, now the records are quite tight (it's not anymore exploring and tumbling against walls) , I think we can now ask for a log as long as the player broke the record.
What do the other organizers think? (PitD, Beowuuf, Christophe)

No opnion about logs : )
What I would say is that we should probably come up with a minimum for each quest...perhaps a cap, so that anyone falling under it merely gets a mention and and record points...
For later people, one or two of these much be quite daunting, and must be fairly close to a theoreticl maximum anyway
not sayign we shoudl do it yet...but maybe soemhtign to think about

I just watched some logs of Charlatan75's records. They're quite impressive. The choice of paths is very clever and he moves always in complete darkness!

Zyx, can you clarify exactly what constitutes 'getting' a flask. Does it have to be in your inventory, or is simply finding the tile it's on enough?
Additionally, do you subtract the six moves required to start the game and then save it? If not, I cannot see how Charlatan has done this in 160! The best I can manage with a perfect set of moves and a lot of luck is 172, and even with the six moves taken off it's still not enough. How on earth is it done?

I've checked the flask minimal moves quest using my maps and the quickest it is possible to do it with a perfect set of moves and no errors (and no monster encounters) is 166. So you must be subtracting those extra six moves.
Therefore, it's not possible to beat the 160 set by Charlatan. The best I can do is to try and tie. Would I still get a point for that?

by beowuuf
the engine displays every move you have done since the pressing, try using the x 1 zoom to view the engine count - it may well display this. so you face the 'go save the city' guy after only three moves, not six
and yes, charlatan was confident he had done it to within a few moves, i recall from the mail - which was why i suggested starting to cap certan routes - without luck people probably couldn't start beating thigns liek the lich etc
we can always lower the cap later if someone does soemthign completely sneaky!
and yes, ties will be rewarded with the same points to everyone who holds the record, according to the ranking file and the wording of the contest

No, it's six moves, if you include the saving of the game once you've got the flask.
Press DUNGEON (1)
Press ENTER (1)
Step Forward (1)
Play perfect game for flask quest (160)
Access inventory (1)
Click Save icon (1)
Click Save and Quit (1)
That's what I meant....

Apologies
I tried minimal flask game, and i have new respect for everyone, man you need luck and need patience!
I need to view the logs of antman/charlatan to see how they did it...i have a theroy for it in around 150 - 155, which as you say would be scrapping the 160 with the extra stuff - it might be the way they did it
*obviously i can't submit it : ) *

I could get it faster than that, if i knew how to open a certain wall, it is open in my main game but i dont know how to open it in a new game. The wall is in the wine cellar to the left of the stairs down in that area with all the Sar wines, if i could open that wall quick enough......
As for time, you can easily get the flask in under 1 minute, and get to the Lich in around 20 seconds, all the main quests could be done in around 10 minutes i'm guessing.
And i also have a master plan for getting the crown of kings very quickly, and in minimal moves, maybe i'll give it a go....

It opens when you are tracking through the rest of the cellar, i beleive, so probably not helpful for your flask quest?
and wow on the 1 minute...i could get there if you don't include recovery time, i found a few pit jumps were good move-wise, but needed the game to be left idling for ages to recover health!

I guess i can reveal the flask plan, when you open that wall the is a monk staff there i believe, so you get that, ressurect a bunch of priests till you can open the final guild door which has a coastl behind it, this coatl has an anti-venom potion. But he would probably take too long to kill anyway.
I'm pretty sure you can do the Crown of Kings in under 1000 moves, comfortably in about 1500. I might try it in the weekend.

kill? the quest is for the flask...as long as you lure the bugger far enough away to save the game, its all good i would have thought...
crafty plan : )
