Zyx, how would you feel if I uploaded my Conflux 2 maps when they are ready? Would you prefer that I didn't, so as to preserve it's secrets.....? ;)

Ooh, if you have them electronically, can you at least mail them to me so i can check out your hard work? I'm interested in these famous maps now : )

I only have an incomplete level 1 so far... but I'll send you that so you can see it.

It'll take a while to complete. Redrawing them in Photoshop takes a while, and I still have to map the guild endings and some of the secret areas. But they would be usable for a quest game....

As a player, I am very interested in your maps, I'd like to see them.
But as the designer and one of the organizers of the competition, I think it would spoil completely the feeling of discovery, which is nowadays extremely hard and rare to achieve. One of the greatest pleasure of DM-like games is exploration, IMHO.
Maybe when (if) Conflux II becomes a "classic", it will be time to offer some maps.

I'd like to hear more opinions, though.

Absolutely no problem -- I understand completely. I feel the same way, and it was such a pleasure to play and explore Conflux 2. It really made me feel 16 again and playing DM for the first time...! And I still have so much to explore!

I'll keep the maps private. I think Conflux 2 is already a classic though! ;)

As someone who has seen the effort zyx has gone to to try and make the dungeon, and give it as many mysteries and twists for longevity as possible, i would second that motion to keep the maps from the public..for the time being... : )

Is it really true that people have been playing this
game for many, many hours without any problems?
Or is it crashing now and again but simply going
unreported?

If it really has been reliable then I will
release the latest CSBwin as version 9.7 and CSBuild
as version 1.0. If you have been having problems,
please let me know.

I've had the "Illegal object index" or somesuch error a few times, but I keep forgetting to do anything abiut it, ie, send you the save games or whatever.

Would any of this help you out? Most of the time it's random and unrepeatable. I just quit and restart and it's fine most of the time.

You are right that saying the error occurred is not
enough. But these things are almost always repeatable
if you have the save game and the record file.

If you don't report these things to me there is no way
we are going to fix the problems. Do we really want
to continue with the game crashing seemingly at random?
PLEASE! HELP ME!

I got a "Too many Monsters" error when I rather unwisely entered PitD in The Chapel (oo-err!). I have a save game for this but no logs as I deleted them when they got to 100.

I've also had one or two freezes, but these were only temporary (about 20 seconds) so I wasn't bothered.

As for the maps, I agree that they should not be released and/or the dungeon unprotected for a while. I've enjoyed mapping and discovering without the temptation to cheat, which I would probably have succumbed to by now (even though I still have a long way to go and have yet to encounter the really hard bits).

I had two things that caused Conflux 2 to crash:

1. When there were 100 log files in the folder and you got a message saying 'too many log files', then you tried entering the dungeon or resuming a game, it crashed.

2. In the circus games area, i had a save which you could recreate an 'illegal object interger' error which caused CSBWin to crash.

I sent you emails about them and sent you the save game with the recreatable error, did you recieve them?

I received the email about the 100 logfiles.
What should I do? I tell you what is wrong and
you can easily delete some of the files, rename
them, put then in another directory, etc. I don't
think it is wise to create an infinite number. I suppose
I could warn you and then make another one anyway.
Would that be better?

I received no complaint about the
'illegal object interger'
.

About the 100 log files thing, i was just reporting, i thought you wanted to know about absolutely anything which can cause CSBWin to crash.

As, for the 'illegal object interger' it might have been 'illegal object index', anyway i think i can make a new game which recreates it.

I'd also say keep the maps private while the competition is in it's early stages, Gambit, although -same as Beowuuf- I'd appreciate if you could mail them to the judges to have a look at all the work you have been doing.

Regards, PitD

his maps are scarily good in both presentation and completeness so far...
