This screenshot originates from a german magazine called Power Play 1/89, at that time being a supplement/inlay of Happy Computer Magazine and later becoming a stand alone product, now out of print.
Whatever, it shows a very strange handicon of the first character.
Did he loose his hand or is it merely an injury? It gave me the creeps, stamm with one arm.

Sadly I do not have any more tests or whatsoever of dungeon master, and I do not have any idea if this screenshot is taken from amiga or atariST, and which version it would be.

It is the same here for Alex:

This may be from an early version of the game.

When I played the Atari ST game (german version) in the 80th I remember there were injuries, which could not be healed by sleep alone. The injured body part was surrounded by a colored line (color depending on how much injured). The only way to cure that was by giving a healing potion. If an arm was hit and you took away the weapon, you were able to see this picture of the bandaged hand..

The hand injury thing applies to all DM incarnations, but in the screenshot there is a hand missing! Perhaps the graphic wasn't ready for the demo screenshot, perhaps there was an idea for something more permanent...

I am quite not sure (so maybe I 'll proof that), but I think the missing hand was the stage after that bleeding one, where you were no more able to use that hand until you healed it with a VI Potion.. :shock: mmmhh...trying hardly to remember....but I could swear I had that case when I played the game first...really a long time ago...

i was thinking about the hand and stuff some time ago:

The leader cannot use three hands, see? In both screenshots, the leading character has no hand icon of the right hand.

Puh... they have changed it in later versions of the Atari, and enhanced it in the Amiga version, where you could drink out of fountains and push buttons on doors with sth. to throw ready in hand.
Mystery solved?? 8)

Hey cool! It were these very magazines that made me start playing DM1 and CSB.
Does anyone have the DM1 and CSB walkthroughs from the PP-Magazine?

I have the first parts of the walkthroug (the one from Michael Hengst) (from level 1-13, without Lord Chaos) and every map, but not the last part with the final battle.. and one walktrough from an amiga magazine (name forgotten)

@Diriyando
Veeery cool, i always wanted to see this test of dm. I had only a preview, saying in the next issue there will be a test....Back then powerplay had been an inlet of Happy Computer magazine

dm:
I have copied maps from some mag, but they were incomplete, so i added secrets i found, most of them in the wormlevel. (actually the last secret i did not find had been the boots of speed in the 10th level)
csb :
I still have to check, but i think i have the last part somewhere..

OK, my second walktrough ist from a magazine called AMIGA PRAXIS (I liked this walkthrough better, but the maps were terrible... the maps in the Powerplay magazine are really good)... it had several walktroughs and I have naerly the complete one of DM, only one page is missing, but that's (again) a part of the final battle and the list of spells.

Bye the way: Is it possible that many Germans visit this forum?

Diriyando: Wie lief Dein Abi? Was für LKs hattest Du denn? Und nach dem Abi - Studieren? Wenn ja, was?

Posted: Tue Jun 29, 2004 11:15 pm
by Diriyando

This may be from an early version of the game.
Hmm, maybe it's just me but...

"Syrias spell fizzles and dies", I don't remember this message (Only 'X requires more practice .... ')

Zed's tunic, I don't remember that being in DM (the graphic).

Lastly, the obvious open scroll in Zed's inventory is something unseen before.

Take another look at that picture. In Alex's inventory you'll see 2 Heal potions with an empty potion bottle floating to the right of them. That is the "hand" cursor holding the bottle.

As far as the missing hand on the magazine page, I believe I see it to the right of the Shreiker in the form of a held arrow. It's also possible that the cursor was moved to the bottom right corner.

The missing hand is ...the leader´s hand (yellow font), "used up" to hold the arrow;
In the newer versions, you can put two things literally speaking into the leader´s hand.
