Starting my solo run...

As the topic states, I just started up a solo run last time I got my hands on the game. :) I grabbed Halk because Selie was verbally abusive to him much earlier and I wanted to make him feel loved. So far he's doing pretty good... I've died a few times trying to tank things, though. I keep thinking "I tanked X with Hawk and Gothmog, and neither of them were as stout as Halk..." But the obvious finally occured to me... That Gothmog and Hawk are two targets, whereas Halk is one... It makes it a lot more exciting, though. Those glancing blows I would take while dodging around before are much more serious if a group of monsters all land their hits.
Anyway, more on this later!

you'll possibly find the biggest benefit will be increasing levels faster, since you are having to do everything with just one guy.

with a non-mana character like halk, be on the look out for ways to start him on the path to magic...

have fun!

There are a few items that increase a characters Mana, even if the starting character's starting Mana has been zero. With their aid you can start learning wizardry even with a strong but dumb character as Halk or Stamm.

neither halk nor stamm are really dumb though
and shhhhhhhhhh, no spoilers if he's never spotted the items : )

Stamm is a superstar! Mana problems? *%$-£$% that 1st &*%$£%$ for a minute and hey presto, magic.

Oh I certainly don't meant that they aren't a good choice as characters. I played both many many times.

my front guys tend to always be stamm and halk now in 'normal' custom dungeons, i just like the brawn up front : )
plus you can take the HAMSTER of COLDNESS and use it to WARM your FEET

Actually, my first move with Halk was to trap a screamer and warcry my way to a whopping three mana. He's slowly studying new and exciting magical spells, but mostly he's punching everything into bloody pulps. I have indeed noticed a significant boost in his levelling speed... Plus it is fun to not have any worries about food at all. I use bread to hold down pressure plates and sometimes randomly eat apples I find. Not that anyone in their right mind would eat an apple that they found on the floor of a dungeon...

yeah, i think the delirium necessary to actually run screaming up to huge scorpions and spiders and attack them comes from from eating apples and bread lying on the floors of dungeons : )

no magic characters are also satisfying when you have to slowly build them up to some form of power, i find.
The ability to punch thigns to bloody pulps comes in handy with high armour critters, as you might have noticed first run through
plus its just fun!

Yeah, punching is fun and pretty useful... I'm mostly just focusing on it because it was my lowest skill level last time through.

Agh, stupid DM rules off. Since part of my fun with playing a single character is trying to make him as badass as I can, I'm gonna start over... I've scrapped Halk for Alex Ander, though, since he looks cool. :)
