CSBWin crashes on exit - connected with use of DirectX

Currently using 9.8v16, I am experiencing crashes just as I exit the game (File > Exit or just the X in the window pane). This is probably connected to my recent use of DirectX for sound ("Attempt using DirectX" checked) : I'm playing music through Winamp while playing CSB and found sound quality altered if I didn't use DirectX.
I have just tried to uncheck "Attempt using DirectX" just before exiting but it still crashed.
What else can I try to help you make a diagnosis Paul ?

I complained about this problem myself.
The folks who provided the DirectX code promised to support
it I believe. The last I heard, they were planning to provide
me with a class that would encpsulate the DirectX capability
and shut it down properly when the program exits. I have not
heard from them since they made this offer. Perhaps Cowsmanaut
has more recent information......he provided the impetus to install
the DirectX code and one of his friends did the actual coding.

Just as an aside, I have found that when using the DirectX routine, everything sounds a lot more 'woolly' and muffled. I prefer the original, tinnier sounds.

OK thanks for the info.
Gambit : I only use DirectX sound when I'm playing music with Winamp. In that case, the original sound is very bad, the only way to make it sound better is the use of DirectX.

I wonder what causes this. I just tried playing a .WAV
file while playing DM and I could not tell that anything was
different. I have Windows 2000 and Winamp 5.01 and
God-only-knows what sound card....some very old PCI Sound
Blaster. It could be the sound card itself. Most audio uses
32- or 44.1- or 48-KHz sampling and CSBwin uses an extremely
non-standard sampling. Perhaps the sound card must go
through some terrible contortions to play the DM sound and
DirectX somehow makes it easier.

I'm still using Winamp 2.91...
Maybe this is the reason ?
