Hellooooo, it's me and my relentlessly annoying computer again !

A few days ago the strangest thing happened : Win XP (Professionnal edition) wouldn't let me log into my session, kept turning down my password ! I tried every possible thing, inverting Caps, typing on an imaginary QWERTY keyboard (I have AZERTY), typing backwards. And yes I even tried typing it properly

I have to mention that this computer is NOT connected to the internet or to any kind of network. I do import files from other computers, but only trusted ones, so I don't believe in the virus theory...

Have you ever heard of or seen anything like that ? I had to log into the main admin account (luckily the password was still the same) and reset my user password. Why would this happen ? I know Windows is supposed to be bugged, but FFS this is the main login password !!! Can you believe it can become corrupted ? Should I reinstall Windows ? (Or Linux ? )

If it happens again, maybe. I've never heard of such a thing.

Could it be that someone tried to "break in" my computer and made a number of mistakes that caused the password to be disabled ?

if someone knew your password and used your computer.. say a friend or brother.. they may have made it as a joke..

passwords can also expire if you don't set them not to.. but usually it will ask you a few times before hand to change it.

I have noticed once or twice though the log in not working at all but then when I rebooted the computer it was fine. this was on winxp pro

Nobody else has access to the computer. I have no friends
There are only 2 possible users and they're both password-protected. I didn't know a password could expire but I had no prompts whatsoever... Besides, this XP install is only one month old... It's an XP Pro like you Cows btw.
Rebooting didn't seem to do it for me (did it at least 6 times).

I think XP is just a problem, full stop. It is a pain in the arse and was designed by baboons.

I suggest phoning Microsoft for support and asking them if it's a common problem, and if they can remedy it.

I actually had the occasion to call their support once to rescue a computer at work, and was pleasantly surprised !
