GRARRRRRGHHHHHH

Hey, you know how every time I've tried to make my own dungeon, I've somehow managed to fook something up so it doesn't work? Well, I recently started making yet another new dungeon and it was going fine.
Was.
Today I was working on it a bit and I tried to make my own key and keyhole. Something must have fooked up there because when i tried to save it before quitting, I got an error and the editor closed. Now when I try to open the file in the editor, I just get another error message and the editor closes again. I just tried opening the text file of the dungeon and for some reason all that's there is the main data and the instruction to add the new bitmaps (a character portrait, which was working before so no probs there, plus the new key and keyhole pics). That's it. No levels, no doors, no mirrors, no pits, no floor, no ceiling...
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH ARRRRGHHGHH.
I could start to get kind of annoyed with this...
I dunno what I did wrong but it can only be the new bitmaps I tried to add. All I did apart from that before saving was add a room and a few doors and a teleporter (all stuff I've done before).
I don't know how come my whole dungeon got deleted like that!
Any ideas? Anyone?
Looks like I'm gonna have to start again either way. If I can be arsed.

there must be a .bak file : change extension to txt and load it to the editor. it should be the last version of your dungeon before the crash.

Lol yes it was RTC. And it was the latest version, 0.34. I'll see if changing that .bak file helps at all...

Woo, that worked :D.
Okay, I think I won't bother making my own key and keyhole this time and just stick with using old DM/CSB items, lol.

gaaaaaahh... on the contrary you should ! that's the reason why .bak files were made for.
btw, i still make a backup manually after a "big" modification...

Yeah but if it was the new bitmaps that made the file delete most of itself for no reason, I'd rather it didn't happen again. I dunno what I did that made it go wrong anyway.

You could start a new text file just to achieve the key/keyhole bit, then copy it in when its working

Nah it's okay...can't be arsed now - I've already put in keyholes. I'll just stick to doing my own character portraits and leave the rest to old DM/CSB items.

I've fixed a couple of issues that might cause the crash when saving. Specifically they could occur if you delete a new object / sound / bitmap that you've just created. Is it possible you did this? If so, I would expect the half written *.txt file to be mid-way through writing out one of these "new" sections of the file when it failed - is that what happened for you?

Errmmm...I can't remember. I might've done...the Diags files might still be i the recycling bin if you wanted me to send them to you and see if that gives any hint.
Fortunately there was that .bak file thing which I could change to a .txt file so I didn't lose anything other than the self-made keys which is what fooked it up in the first place. I think I'll avoid making my own objects now, lol.
