[Done for V0.38] Query - Teleporting monsters

I was in the chat room and the subject came up of the differences between CSBWin editor and RTC editor. Anyway, teleportation of monsters was mentioned and I had a look in the RTC editor and there seems no way to set whether monsters have the teleportation ability or not...yet Lord Chaos does (I checked all his stats in the editor but there's nothign that actually SAYS he can port). I just wondered, would it be possible to enable such an attribute to be added to mobs...

Yep - this has been suggested already and is on my (albeit long) list of things to do.

does a Lord Chaos clone will be able to teleport, even if you change his stats/attack methods ?

That should already be the case. Teleporting is currently a hidden property of Chaos - that property will automatically be inherrited by a clone of it.
I still havn't decided how to implement teleporting yet. It's a toss up between a hidden property and an attack method. The former means that creatures can do it without using up an attack slot - the latter means that the party can obtain items which allow them to teleport. I may well end up doing both!

Isn't it possible to add another attack slot in which Teleport can be added, so things like Chaos whose attack slots are full of spells would still be able to...or something...

It's certainly possible, and it's one of the options I was considering...

Oh cool

Teleport for Chaos

There is a problem with Chaos always being able to teleport. In my dungeon, I have a corridor with chaos standing at the end of it - when you see him, he says something via a floor text and then is teleported away by a teleporter.
The problem is that when the party get to the corridor he isn't there because he has taken it on himself to say "oh shit, I'm stuck at the end of a corridor - I'll teleport away"

Then create a fake choas cloned from something that cannot teleport, with chaos's graphics

Lord Order is a good one to clone for this sort of thing. He just sits there and doesn't do anything - if you clone him and give him Chaos' graphics it sounds like it'll be perfect for what you want.
Cool

Good idea! I'm on it!

I presume the Grey Lord is identically suited for such things as well, since he just stands there too

I think that's what he meant... maybe....

Yep - sorry. It would help if I knew what the monsters were called in my own game
Clone the Grey Lord.

Monsters can now have a "teleport" attack method which any of them can use (i.e. Chaos' behaviour is no longer hard-coded) so this can now all be done.

Out of interest, how does the strength affect the range - is there still a random element to this, or can you limit a creature to one square, etc
Tried it a few releases back and it didn't seem consistent...

The way the teleport action works is that it does a "random walk" of length equal to the strength.
So on average a higher strength will give a teleport of a longer distance (it scales as root n), but it is random...

AH, ok - does the distance also start at zero, or one? (ie will the creature always teleport)

Well, a strength of 1 will give a teleport of a single tile.
0 strength however is a special case (and selects a value between 1 and 100). This is true for all actions, not just teleport BTW.

Actually, that's not quite true. If the monster tries to teleport into a wall with it's one move then it won't go anywhere...

Or into the party I take it : )

Is it possible to give tiles a NO_TELEPORT property that prevents monsters from teleporting in? That might be vital for puzzles relying on teleporting monsters.

Surround the area you want to "fence in" with a few teleporters OPBY that monster that sends them back into the confined area.
