I actually think that alain45 is sort of complaining that this site is in English, and our fellow French users tell him that English is the international language, so these forums are in English as well, snce lots of users come from different countried all over the world. I might be wrong about that, though, maybe somebody else can clarify?

My French is also a little rusty so I ran the original message through a translator (InterTran) This has infact confused the issue some what ! However here is the translation as given.

"Greeting and thank you for your noteworthy setting. I have 54 years and I ne me shall put not the angle aujourdhuipouah (!!! ) What a pity car what fund d'Or , but as dab , at Roast beef. flimsy France. thank you when Mrs"

Lol, Thank YOU when Mrs.

Lets hope InterTran is never used in International peace talks.

Why the hell did this post even get ressurected in the first place??! We have french, polish and german speakers at least and hopefully they can be allowed to converse if they want without people complaining we can't eavesdrop!

I think that I'm able to clarify and certify that you have perfectly understand the message. In my side, It is the first and the last post that I write in french in this forum.

I think Alain45 will no come again, his message is not very attractive, you can forget it without any regrets !!

Timely. I recently spoke to Cowsman about fractured conversations in multiple languages.

This is an *international* forum, and whether you like it or not, the most widely understood international language is English. If you can read and write it reasonably well, it's much fairer on the rest of the community that you should try and do so.

Bollocks! I agree complaining about the fact this site is in english is stupid since it is an international forum, but its equally stupid to copmplain about people posting in a language they feel comfortable communicating a problem/idea in and understanding! If the roles were reversed, I was in a foreign chat board, and found someone speakign enlgish, I would be happy to be able to say hi in my own language and would certainly get my back up if anyone whined at me to not do it, especially if it did not pertain to anythign to do with the forum!

I would not defend the same in flashchat, starting a conversation in another language in there would be bad manners, but then that's what the provate chat window is brilliantly for.

I'm not against people talking their own language per se -- that's fine. But if it's a mixed conversation that contains English and relates to the subject of the board, it's unfair on other members not to continue in English if the conversation was started that way.

It's weird that you'd defend it in one instance and not another. I don't think it makes any difference what the 'location' is.

Well, sending a messgae in the chat is different from doing it in the forum...since I would say the majority of us are, if not English-speaking (ie English, American, Scottish, etc), at least good enough with English for it not to make a difference (eg I wouldn't know Trantor was German if he hadn't said so). If you're posting in a forum, then everyone can see it and if it's a message for someone who doesn't speak that language then someone can translate it or whatever. But if you're in the chat room and start speaking, say, French, but there's no French-speaking people present to understand it, then umm...well, there is a problem hehe.
Well I dunno what I'm trying to say here (if anything) but errm...yeah.

The difference with chat is the speed and frequency - you are basically scrollign the screen for everyone else in chat, which is bad if there is alot of talking going on. I assume it's always good manners to start a provate conversation if you have somethign to say to only one person, rather than talk over people if it is not soemthign they can look at and comment on. True, less time and inclincation to translate also if it's anything interesting - i would also say that

In the forum, speaking another language I would treat like anythign else - do it in the middle of someone else's thread too much, and you are spammign with OT posts and it should probably get split, but is otherwise is fine. I mean, it's an international board yet we UK people seem to go on about locations or british only thigns occasionally - I would see that as about the same. Ok for a few posts, but is OT and might be annoying for anyone else is it comes in the middle of another topic. If you are commenting on the topic, then hopefully someone else biligual would explain the comment (more for the sake of the commenter too!) rather than simply conduct a conversation in the middle.

Il nous faut d´apprendre chinois, car dans le future, on va parler de chinois, pas du anglais! Nos élèves vas prendre mandarin à l´école, je pense.
(uh uh. my french ..)

In the distant future, all will speak and communicate in chinese (mandarin dialect?).
This is a bold statement but better get your chinese language training book ready for the next 30 years...;)

Yeah, I once heard a sentence from someone who learnt chinese at that time, and he told me what he just had said had really meant something offending .
didn´t sound offending though. He laughed and I laughed.
really funny.
Normally it is not good when you cannot read or write or talk, but
I thought about how wonderful it would be when all the advertising cannot bother you, and all the signs that you have to face everyday. magazines tell you this and tv is even worse(I do not watch it anymore).
Just for a day total relaxation without understanding anything.

Yeah but what if all the riddle clues in Conflux were written in Chinese ! It would actually make it rather tricky.

In 30 years, I think you will have learnt so much chinese to understand what the riddle clues mean, or you will have played so much conflux and conflux add-ons that you won´t need any clues anymore!!
then again, who knows what will happen..

I think mice will rule the planet and be our overlord. That's why I horde as much cheese as I can in Conflux *twitch*
