Sorry for comming with v0.27, but in DM PC fused (but not totaly caged) Lord Chaos allways teleported himself to the nearest fluxcage-free square. Now he's not.

Ussually i caged him in the corner, warping him with fuse option untill he jumped into the square closed from 3 sides with the wall, then blocked him with party, cage and finnaly fused.

I'm Playing RTC CSB now, so I'm not shure is this still happening in RTC DM.

Fixed for V0.35

The old behaviour was for him to teleport to a random square; I've now changed this to move just a single square away so you can chase him into a corner more easily.

Heh, just to annoy you after your discussion about the original game sources, we now know that Chaos can teleport a maximum of two squares as long as the space is free and not a wall or fluxcage.

Though thinking about that now, it doesn't seem right.

Who can confirm this?

It isn't right,or else he could have escaped from the hall (there are only two teleporters guarding the exits). George has it correctly I believe

Yeah, if he could teleport two squares, then completely surrounding him with fluxcages but leaving spaces beyond that free would allow him to escape.

Hmm.. Confused now. Was sure Paul S had said Chaos could jump two squares.

I' don't think fluxcages are a blocker personally - he can walk into it, why not teleport into it... the game should just check to see if he is surrounded then end before he has the chance to teleport away

In CSBwin I think it works like this:

Can he get away? If not then end-of-game.

To decide, choosing directions at random:
1) Can he move one square in that direction? If
open cell or pit, not occupied by party or monster,
and no fluxcage.

2) Can he move two squares in that direction?
If no fluxcage in first cell, the second cell is
open cell or pit and not occupied. I am not looking
at the code but I think perhaps it fails to look and see
if there is a fluxcage in the second cell. If so, it should
be fixed.

I also think that it will not move Chaos into a cell
with a missile such a Fireball. This is not explicit
but I believe that this is a side-effect of the code
that moves any monster. Not too sure, however.

Here is how I understand it: Chaos can teleport a maximum of two squares, unless fused where he automatically teleports one square. He cannot teleport into a fluxcage. To end the game he must simply be fused in a place where he cannot teleport this one square.

Looking at the original DM, and Chaos' lair, it can be seen that the two corridors are guarded by two teleporters each to stop him teleporting out. The rest is surrounded by thick wall, at least two squares of wall. He can teleport diagonally too.

Chaos often teleports his two squares when you have cast a few fluxcages nearby but have not fused him, like an 'escape' tactic. Some versions you can hear the 'buzz'. If totally surrounded by cages, and not fused, he may simply move into the fluxcage.

Can he teleport through closed doors?

I believe he can teleport over a closed door when not fused. But not into one.

My above comments apply for CSBWin. Note that ADGE lets you adjust a 'teleporter' flag for monsters. I do not think it has been looked into that far.
